    Calling all October sleevers!!

My surgery is 2 weeks from today (10/23). My dr didn’t put me on any pre-op diet .. just the day before. But I want to do one anyway. I’m trying to do an all liquid day but I can’t. I start off with a protein drink... then water.. then by lunch I’m starving. How do you all get past the hunger? I can’t imagine the strength you all have to do the all liquids for 1-2 weeks. Can I ask what your trick is? Tomorrow I’m going to try again to do all liquids... protein drinks, broth, water, etc. I have a busy day at work so maybe that’ll help. I enjoy reading all of your stories.. it’s easing my nervousness.

    Kaiser options orientation So-Cal

Hi lala, I'm in Kaiser Orange County (generally utilize Kaiser hospital in Irvine), however they do our surgery's out of Kaiser Harbor City. I'm currently in the Options Program. I just completed class 7 out of 12. The classes are held in Orange near Crystal Cathedral. So far I've liked Kaiser. Lots of education! I've had all my labs completed and met with the therapist. So far all is going well.

    New to dating

Hi sgc, You began this post nearly 2 years ago. Your requests for advice haven't changed in those 2 years even though you've been given very similar advice many many times. If you keep doing the same thing you are going to continue getting the same results and that is what's happening here. Your stories and answers are repeats of what what said months, and now years, earlier. People who have commented earlier have quit commenting. New people join this forum and they begin offering similar advice that you've already received so this post keeps going. I gave you my suggestions but they were turned down so I quit commenting. At some point you have to step up to the plate and take action. If you have social anxiety then work on that with a therapist before you begin dating. Sometimes I wonder if this is just a game you are playing on all of us who take this forum seriously. SO, if your posts are serious I suggest you go to counseling to work your own issues out. Social Anxiety can't be cured in a forum. I wish you the best.
  7. What's the trick to update your Ticker?? I've tried several days to figure it out. I've just spent another 30 minutes trying to learn the process. I just want to update my weight. I've searched the forums and I'm still lost. I've clicked Ticker, I've gone to my Profile and I've gone to Settings. I'm obviously missing something. Can someone please let me know how to update my weight? I really appreciate it.

    Cloud bread

Finally17, Thanks for making it. I've been looking at the recipe and wasn't sure if it would taste good. I think I'm going to try it. I'm on the Keto diet so any fat that's in it isn't a problem. I might cut back on the sweetener though. This is what I read about storing it: Store cloud bread refrigerated or freeze it for later use. Reheat refrigerated cloud breads in the oven.
  9. I have not had surgery yet but in the process of losing weight pre-surgery. It's all in the mindset. I used to "live to eat" but now I only "eat to live". "Live to eat" means I couldn't wait until the next meal, or next snack. I've been working on switching my thoughts to not making food the big ritual it was. It's now like putting gas in my car. My body needs nutrition and I give it that but my focus now is on other parts of my life. I hope that's helpful.

    TIcker Info

Thanks to you both! I would not have guessed I had to re-enter the entire ticker info as if starting over. Both of your detailed instructions were very helpful! Have a fantastic Wednesday!
  13. Ah Bakersfield, nice! While part of me doesn't want to wait the three months to take the OPTIONS class I'm sure it provides some great educational information and really prepares us for our surgery and after. I'm working on my 10% presurgery loss now and so far so good. Nice prizes you got!!

I can understand your hesitation. The meetup groups are not large. Some are just 1 or 2 people. Generally they are others that keep to themselves and use meetup as a venue to get out. You can see in advance how many people attend certain events. Look them over and focus on a small one. I think you can email each other in advance, but not sure. When we try something new it's generally uncomfortable. But if you stay with what you are doing now you know the results. Meetup is an option to reach out. For me, I've been fat for years. I can stay where I am because I know what life is like is now. I can keep eating because at the time I'm eating it feels good. So when I first considered WLS it was scary and still at times is. What if I fail? What if I do everything by the book and still fail? What if I'm in pain, remain sick, etc. the list goes on. But, if I don't take steps forward I know I'm going to stay just where I am and I'm tired of being fat. I'm being brave, listening to the support from others and moving forward. I HAVE to believe in myself! My positive self talk has changed and it tells me I can do this! So, I would bet a lot of people on this site have stepped out of their comfort zone, and for doing that, they are seeing great results. Were you nervous before WLS? Where you afraid of the negative things that might happen? Well, you went through the surgery and WOW what a success. I know it wasn't easy but look at your success! I'm jealous. I want to be where you are right now. But I have to wait through the process. Wishing you much success!! I know you can do this!

Hi sgc, I accidentally ran into this thread and have been sitting hear reading it all, from your very first post! I certainly have seen growth in your confidence which you should not overlook. You've made many changes including an amazing weight loss! What a transformation! I can understand those dating sites being awkward, uncomfortable, and unpredictable with some successes for the lucky. I'd like to suggest a site > meetup.com. This is not a dating site but it's a place where people arrange social activities for others who don't have others to do things with. There are no expectations except to join in on what is planned. Sometimes it's meeting others for a day hike, coffee and conversation, helping serve food to those in need, attending a concert in the park, etc. the list is endless. It's a great avenue to get involved in social events that you choose. It's a great way to make friends. AND if you happen to make a special connection in the process that's a bonus. I hope you can find meetup events your area. Try it out and attend some events. Remember there are no expectations... just a nice way to ease into socializing. I'll continue following your posts. I wish you must success.

    Hair thinning?

I attended my Orientation meeting last week and the topic of hair loss came up. The Dr said not all will lose hair, some may lose more than others and some may not lose hair at all. I asked about Biotin and the Dr said it definately helps with hair growth and she recommends Biotin to her patients. I have some hair loss with menopause but also want to be proactive about hair loss after I get sleeved. So, I ordered some Biotin from Amazon and began taking it two days ago. I'm taking 5,000 mcg per day for the first week then starting next week I'm going to take 10,000 mcg's per day from then on. I'm curious to see if I notice a difference.

    Tomorrow's the day!!!!

I am so excited for you! I can't wait to get where you are now. Some anxiety is normal so just breath through it and imagine all of the successes that await you on the other side. Fill your thoughts with the wonderful people on here who share that this was the best decision for them and for those who have said they wished they would have done this sooner. I'm sure you have worked very hard just to get where you are now! Post in here how you are doing. I, as well as others, can learn from your successes. Best wishes for you and for a speedy recovery. You've got this!!

    PRE-OP INFO

Thank you for that information. It's very helpful. I see you had your sleeve on April 12th. I hope you are doing well.
  22. Welcome Katriena, I'm fairly new here too. I'm in So. California and looking forward to having a Sleeve surgery in about 4 months or so. This site has been great for tons of support and learning what to expect. Best wishes for you.
  23. That's so funny OutsideMatchInside. Lol I'm pre-surgery. Just went to Orientation and lab work begins this coming week. Then the 12 week Options class. My plans are only to tell my husband. He knows that I don't want anyone else to know. I'm a very private person and dont' want to share something that I think is personal. When asked how I'm losing the weight I'm going to respond with I'm now making eating healthier and exercising a priority. Interesting thing.. my neighbor who has always been obese all of a sudden lost weight very quickly and lost his hair. I can tell he had WLS because I'm more aware of it now with all the reading I'm doing. Yesterday I walked over to him and told him he looked great. (I was curious if he'd mention he had WLS). He told me he's taking better care of himself and feels a LOT better. (I would never ask him, or anyone, if they had WLS). He thanked me for noticing his weight loss. Like someone said.. it's a personal choice.
  24. I'm a Psychotherapist and just recently I was asked to clear one of my patients for WLS. My only focus was on this patient's mental health and whether I felt this patient would be able to follow a strict plan. For me to comment on a patient's "exercise" would be completely out of my scope of practice - that is the law! I don't know of any Psychotherapists or Psychologists that also has extensive training in exercise physiology and how it affects the body. Although I suppose it's possible. I would have a discussion with your physician and ask about the excessive exercise that's being required from your Psychologist. AND let me add... I'm not saying there shouldn't be any exercise as that's not for me, as a psychotherapist, to comment on. My focus is on the brain. I would think that the Physical Therapist is the qualified person to comment on the persons ability to exercise.

    Cruise

You can let your waiter know of any special meals requests. I've cruised a lot and have always been dieting. Right off the bat I told my waiter to please not put any carbs on my plate (rice, potatoes, etc.) I never had to remind him after that. I also asked him to never offer me dessert and he didn't. It made it a lot easier for me. I skipped the midnight chocolate buffet and walked by any other dessert offerings. As Blizair said, there's plenty of proteins everywhere.. at all meals no matter where they are served. Exercising is easy on the ship. I would walk laps on the upper deck. They have an area just for walkers and runners. Nothing like walking as you look out over the ocean. I'm sure you'll have a blast! Enjoy!
