  1. I've always been above average in length and girth even at my weight before surgery. My issue was keeping an erection. Since my surgery on April 11th, I'm proud to say things are getting much harder, lol! If I add on to what I already have, my wife is going to move out. Lol!!!
  2. I would like to thank everybody who has commented. The only support I need is my beautiful wife. She has been through everything with me. In October of 2015, I suffered sudden cardiac arrest at work and was clinically dead for over 5 minutes. I am truly blessed to be here talking to you all right now. I spent almost 30 days in ICU and my wife never left my side. Because my of my medical history, I chose weight loss surgery because I had been obese for over half my life and had failed many times dieting and exercise. I chose to keep surgery a secret with the support of my wife. I'm glad I found this site. I will be looking forward to following you all I wish nothing but the best for you all in your journey for a healthier thinner lifestyle.
  3. Keep your head up and stay positive. I experienced a couple of setbacks too. I started my quest for wls in March of last year. I was recovering from sudden cardiac arrest that I suffered in October 2015. I had an emergency tracheostomy while in ICU which I had several setbacks to have removed months after being discharged from the hospital. I had to have surgery to remove scar tissue around my vocal cords. Also had a DVT which left me on blood thinners temporarily. By June, I had all my requirements completed to have weight loss surgery and was waiting for medical clearance. My second setback occurred my employer switched insurance companies from Blue Cross Blue Shield to Aetna. Aetna's requirements were different from Blue Cross Blue Shield and I had to start the whole process all over again and this time I had to do the documented weigh-ins which with Blue Cross Blue Shield I did not have to do. My third setback occurred this past October. I completed everything that was required of me by Aetna. By that time I had medical clearance and had my surgery date set for early November. I then received the worst news of all, I was told the policy that my employer provided did not cover bariatric surgery even after I was told that they did when they first changed to Aetna. As you can imagine I was really upset even after Aetna covered the visits I had with the dietitian and surgeon. I also lost money with those visits as I had to pay a $50 copay for three visits with the dietitian and my surgeon. While I was very frustrated, I stayed focused and determine to have my surgery. I dropped in during open enrollment switch back to Blue Cross Blue Shield. I had to wait until January for of the new policy to go in effect. This time I made sure that the policy I had chosen covered bariatric surgery. Luckily for me all the lab work that I had done and October was good for 6 months. My chart with my surgeon was reactivated and I just had minor documentation that needed to be submitted to Blue Cross Blue Shield and I was approved surgery. After 13 months of starting my weight-loss Journey, I had gastric bypass surgery on April 11th and I'm out a week out from surgery. So I'm here to tell you to keep your head up because sometimes obstacles do get in your way but you have to stay focused in order to reach your goal.
  4. I suffered a sudden cardiac arrest in October 2015. I was clinically dead for over 5 minutes. I was revived with the use of an AED (automated external defibrillator). The total survival rate from sudden cardiac arrest which kills 3 million people every year worldwide is only 6%. I was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and had ICD implanted. I have been advised by my cardiologist not to engage any strenuous exercises due to my enlarged heart. I've been obese since my late 20's (I'm 50 now) and decided to have WLS after years of failed diets and exercise. I had RNY surgery on April 11th and I was wondering if anyone else had or going to have surgery with an ICD/Pacemaker implant?
  5. I've been obese for about half of my life and I have an extensive medical history. I had my surgery April 11th and I decided before the surgery not to tell anyone. Only my wife knows and she is aware of my wishes to keep my surgery secret. Right now I am trying to figure out how to respond when my family members inquire about my rapid weight loss? Has anybody kept surgery a secret and how is it working out so far?
  6. I had surgery on April 11th and it went well but I had to stay in the hospital an extra day because of my kidneys. The combination of medications that I was on before surgery and the anesthesia that was given to me before and medications after surgery had an effect on my kidneys. Everything is well, the only issues I had have slightly now is gas pains. I found that walking helps the ease of my pain from gas. The only issue I have now is trying to get my my daily recommended water and protein intake.
  7. I'm above average in length and girth at my present weight. I just had surgery last week and I get to add to what I already have with weight loss? Outstanding!
