  1. Okay. So first thing is I have Aetna better health premier insurance out of Michigan. It is a Medicaid/Medicare dual enrollment plan that I've never had issues with before. Prior to receiving my referral to Bronson Methodist hospital two years ago I haf called my insurance and asked about covered services. I was told they'd cover everything as my BMI was over 40. After working for 7 months to complete paperwork and go to the required before initial appointment but always full seminar, the surgeon left and I had to start over at Borgess Surgical in Kalamazoo. Now I'm finally on to month 1 of my 6 medical weight loss appointments, and the surgeon requires a checklist to be completed and at least 2 nutritionist appointments. At my first appointment the office made me sign a waiver. Stating that i understood my insurance may not cover the 400 dollar group session, which doesn't count towards. my at least 2 appointments with that employee. I've since called my insurance and had to be transferred four times in order to be told that person has to make a bunch of calls and then would call me back. Has anyone else had any similar issues? How was it resolved? And does anyone have Aetna better health? Did you have any unexpected bills? Was the approval process difficult? Thank you.

I also have Aetna Better Health Medicaid because I'm on SSI because of bipolar issues and I would say to call and ask who your case manager is and speak to them only this way you have one person responsible for getting you approved. I only had to pay 30.00 for my first initial nutrition class and after that my next five classes were only 15.00 my paperwork went to the insurance on the 18th of April. I have called them but I have not received a call back yet but I'm determined to harass them if I have to, all my tests, appointments, and doctor approvals are all in order and perfect so I expect them to take this as serious as I do and do their job. They've been really good so far and I've had an in depth conversation with my caseworker and I feel they are pretty well aware of what I expect. I'll keep you posted.

  2. Can anyone tell me how they handled all the meds, I know for a few weeks I have to crush my pills, or capsules I have to empty into applesauce. Does anyone have any idea on how I should handle all these meds and what would be best to mix them with. Also I heard that omeprazol tastes horrible and I have to take that everyday.
Someone please help me I'm freaking out about all these meds and how to get them in on top of all the Vitamins.< br>

I don't understand why when I post questions on here and no one answers any of the questions I am asking isn't that what these forums are for?

  3. I've had acid reflux so bad that now i take a 40mg capsule every day, don't know if my VSG will stop it or not. I was not given the choice of surgery I could have. My surgeon said I should get the sleeve and he's the top surgeon and Director of the Metabolic department at Loyola Hospital in Maywood so I trust his decision, also I take meds for bipolar which is why he said the sleeve would be best.

  4. I have pretty much NO restriction at all unless I eat too fast which results in me eating too much. As long as I take my time and remember to chew thoroughly and eat at a slower pace, I think I have realized that I can actually eat quite a bit at a time already and that worries me because it means when I have a "hollow day" I go from snack to snack to snack and have a hard time getting in more Protein than carbs.
My Snacks are usually things like blackberries - about a quarter to half a cup at a time, sometimes 3 to 4 times a day or a sugar free popsicle once in awhile. I almost never eat breakfast, because I am never hungry int he morning, but I always start the day with a cup of hot tea. In fact, as long as I stay away from home and stay busy, I don't feel hungry much at all during the day.
If I stay home and have nothing to do, though - that is when I start to feel "hollow" and have trouble NOT eating... lunch and dinner is almost always the same: about 1/4 to 1/2 cup of chicken, broccoli, cauliflower, bell peppers, onions, mushrooms and cheese all run through my chopper and sort of stir fried in a touch of olive oil with seasonings... but once in awhile I eat whatever the family is having like a baked piece of flounder or a piece of boneless skinless chicken and whatever veggies are with it. I do avoid things like burgers, hotdogs, Pasta, rice, white breads, cakes, Cookies, donuts, etc and anything fried. But I have a hard time saying no to things like dark chocolate and ice cream and I have spreadable Swiss cheese on wheat thins as a snack in the evening at least 3 or 4 nights a week.

It's hard to say no to our favorite foods but I can't imagine eating all the same foods that got me into this condition in the first place. I never want my body to look like this ever again and I know I will not eat crap after surgery because I am stronger than any food addiction and I can just say no to food like I did to drugs 7 years ago on April 13th, when I gave up drugs I turned to food and I can fight this food addiction the same way, ONE DAY AT A TIME.

  5. I chose the sleeve , for me it seemed like the best option. I had 75% of stomach removed and rarely feel hungry. I am six weeks out now and down 30 pounds [emoji4] I had occasional reflux before surgery but now I do not have it. I think each procedure has pros and cons. Good luck to you.

Sounds awesome to me, I'm also having the sleeve because I need meds for my bipolar issue. Just waiting for insurance approval. I'm getting antsy and I'm gonna be all over my insurance company to get my surgery done.

  7. Yep, just had family in from out of town for my daughter's birthday. They had all sorts of stuff while I had my Protein Shakes and Water. Definitely more head hunger than real hunger but still, it made me realize the emotional connection I have had with food.< br>

I think the emotional eating or the understanding if we are really hungry or not really is a big problem for me, that and I believe my other eating disorder is binge eating. Does the surgery help that?

  8. I'm 8 weeks post surgery and have NO regrets. Wish I had done this 20 years ago! Hang in there- it is normal to be anxious and nervous! The time will go fast and the results so worth all your anxiety! Good Luck to you, brave decision-maker!

Thanks for sharing, my paperwork went to the insurance company last Friday and I've been having alot of anxiety ever since I finished my last nut appointment. I'm really happy to hear that there are no regrets.

  9. Low fat Muscle Milk is okay , but I actually like the banana cream by Premier the best.

Premier Protein Shakes are the best so far and advanced body fortress powder from Wal-Mart is also pretty good and have 30 grams of Protein and body fortress powder has 60 protein. Pre op I am told we need to drink Atkins shakes because we need to drink 60 grams of protein so we need to drink five shakes a day of 15 grams of protein 5 times a day plus 60 ounces of Water.< br>

  10. Hi. I am being sleeved in June (scared to death) I have lots of aches and pains (knees, feet, back, shoulders) I was wondering if anyone else had these problems, and did the pain go away as you lost weight? The pain is one of my reasons for having the surgery. Ty

I have body pain in all of my joints. Severe pain wakes me up all night long. My body is suffering greatly. I've been overweight for ten years and my body really started suffering pain since last year, my body is finally saying enough already. Finished all my six months of Dr appointments and six months of nut appointments, paperwork is to the insurance company last Friday and hopefully will have a surgery date soon.

  11. Thanks god it's pre-op. Otherwise you would ruin your stomach. BTW it's not a that big cheating. This pre-op diet is exactly for practice. Go on.

It's not for practice, its to shrink your liver so the drs can do the surgery without your liver being in the way.

  12. 11 months out. I did loose hair for sure, and I don't feel like I could afford to, so it sucked. But I can see 2" strands growing back all over my head now. I didn't do any special Shampoo or take any different pills until about a week ago, when I started 2 Biotin gummies a day. So the hair was coming in already, but thought no harm in giving it a little boost. I am anxious to see how it fills in during the next year. Having to use powder to help fill in the gaps while it is so thin. Hang in there it will grow back.

You might want to look into a spray on filler for your hair it is very unnoticeable and makes you feel like a million bucks. I tried my moms because I have thinning hair on the top, so I tease it up to fill it out and then lightly spray over the parts where I could see my scalp. It's called my secret hair enhancer and is available online I believe. Made by Regency Cosmetics, Duluth, Ga.

  13. Similar to Jon's recipe above. Favorite recipe from my nut:
    High Protein pudding:
    16 oz. cottage cheese
    1 package sf pudding mix
    1 scoop Protein  powder
    4 tbsp ff milk
8 oz. ff or sf cool whip
Mix first 4 ingredients in food processor until smooth, then fold in whipped topping. Chill and serve. 20-25 grams of Protein per 1/2 c serving.

I have been making sugar free, fat free Jello chocolate pudding with 8 oz, chocolate premier shake 60grams protein and one cup of cold ff milk, it is very good. I am going to try sugar free f2f vanilla pudding with French vanilla premier shake and 8 oz f2f milk.
