  1. My insurance required one, egd. Looks for h. Pylori, GERD and signs of general inflammation. All these could be a decision point for a sleeve.

Egds are very easy with no prep. Go to sleep, wake up. Done.

I agree with you my insurance required it also and it made me feel better about my surgery because I made sure every little test was done and I felt more relaxed knowing there would be no surprises or health issues come up during surgery.

  2. does it feel like you h aving a heart attack? Im scared Im getting sleeved next week

I've never had a heart attack so I'm not sure but it feels to me like pressure in the middle of my chest like you swallowed something and you didn't drink enough to get it down all the way. It feels like indigestion more than anything. Don't feel scared I was sleeved on June 21st and in so happy I did it I wouldn't change my mind if I had to reconsider it over and over. I changed my mind about six years ago and I'm very sorry I did. I'm pretty tough but the surgery was the easy part, it's learning how to slow down on eating and drinking and how much you need to eat that's the tough part. When I woke up from surgery all I remember is the fact that now is the real game changer, because wls is a tool not a magic wand, unfortunately lol that was the real AHA moment for me because I realized I was still going to feel fat because I was still fat. I've lost about 12 lbs. though and went from a size 18W to a size 16, I just went out and bought a few new items because I only had fat clothes and anything that was a 16 never fit me before. I'm going to a party today and I can't wait to show off a little bit. You're gonna do fine, don't over think this it's not rocket science and it's the most amazing thing I've ever done for myself.

  3. That's fantastic! It really gives results. How are you feeling from your op?. I'm doing well, I am on the stage 3 food now . I just need to remember to SLOW Down [emoji23]! I otherwise get a terrible pain in my chest.

Me too! It's so hard to learn to slow down everything from eating to drinking. I also get the pain in my chest. I'm just amazed at how little I can eat and still feel like I ate a whole meal like I used to. But without all the calories. I'm loving my sleeve so much I had the chance to do this about four years ago and I let my mom talk me out of it. I almost let HER fear talk me out of it again but I told her she had to get ready because I was having the surgery no matter what and it was harder for her to deal with than me. I told my mom, I'm 55 years old, I'm a very strong and pretty healthy person. My mom is full Italian and I think her hardest part is the fact that I won't be able to eat as much as I used to, Italians aren't happy unless everyone leaves the table stuffed and I just don't want or feel the need to do that anymore. I'm sorry she is struggling with this but "It's my body and I want it now!" lol

  4. Hi there I had surgery on the 24th June so we are newbies together. Congratulations on your success . It's amazing isn't it to get results . I've lost 17lbs since my pre op diet and I'm thrilled. I'm in the uk and have gone from a size 20 to an 18. I've been very tired on the second week but have Alitalia more energy this week and less pain. The eating is going well and I'm rarely hungry. How about you?

Yes I love the results I'm getting now but I can't wait to get back to my yard work outside, I'm dying too mow my lawn and rake everything up. I'm rarely hungry either and when I am I have certain things I love to kill my hunger with. I had a half cup of refried been last night with 2 tbsp of queso con salsa cheese only 40 cals for the cheese and 100 for the Beans. I warm it up and it makes me full, I am amazed at how little I can eat and still get full. I used to eat about 3 or 4 bowls of Cereal at night as my snack because I never felt full, now I'm full with a half cup of anything!!!! It's just amazing how my stomach is reacting and I'm so grateful for Dr. Chan's at Loyola Hospital they are the best.

Thanks for responding it's always nice to see that others really read my stuff. I had a little trouble because I tried to jump to regular food this week, just a little pain in the middle of my upper stomach. The feeling you have when you're full now I've noticed is alot different feeling than when my stomach was full before surgery. Have you noticed that at all? I've been more tired than usual also, mine is just from healing I guess, what is Alitalia? I've never heard of it. Maybe we can talk on Facebook if you want I can post some photos because now at least I don't see my stomach in front, now my chest at least is seen first when I look down. I would love to have someone to talk to that doesn't immediately have negative responses because they think they know it all. Let me know I'll send you my fb page and we can talk on messenger without all of fb listening in I'm not letting too many of my close friends know about the surgery and I'm not that good of friends with my fb friends, I'm sure you understand. Let me know.

  6. I wish I could've predicted how easy the procedure was and my most memorable part, just waking up out of surgery, you're gonna be so happy it's done until you realize it's really just began, now you have to get the weight off. That was my A-ha moment.

  7. This is definitely temporary. I'm almost 9 months out, wow just realized that, and love eating! I love making something delicious and satisfying not just something to put in my mouth. I love being full on a small portion and knowing my surgery is working for me. I don't know about you, but when I thought I loved food before, I also have to remember all the over eating and discomfort from that. All the times I wished I could stop eating. Hope that helps :-)

It helped me also I agree with you all the way, I don't miss needing large portions just to feel satisfied, hell that's why I'm in the sleeved group to begin with. I live my new sleeve I don't even have cravings like I used to.

  8. Yes this is so nice. I got the Hot and Sour and strained all the stuff out and it was soooo yummy. I just finished my first week of three week pre-op diet and doing good. I'm down 8lb.
***My life saver is the sugar free Jello. I add 1 scoop of Unjury Unflavored Protein Powder to a cup of cold Water, mix real good and then add that to my already dissolved jello that is 1 cup hot water. I like firm firm jello so I do 2 pkgs jello to 2 cups water total. One hot to dissolve the jello and one cold for the Protein powder. Mix both and pour into single serve containers. I add the protein powder to make sure I get enough protein in for the day because I have trouble doing three premiere Protein Shakes a day. I really get sick of all the sweet. blah
I also use Unjury chicken flavor Soup protein mix too... this is so good. I'm going to experiment and had it in unflavored Gelatin see how that works. LOL - soup cubes *wink*
I do use broth cubes for convenience, but I don't want to much sodium so I also buy the organic premade broth from Walmart. These are good and less sodium. I am allowed cottage cheese on my pre-op diet so that helps too, cause I can sprinkle with seasonings.
I also am allowed Oikos triple zero yogurt once a day. Those are so yummy. Coffee flavor is my FaV!
For those of you just starting your pre-op. I'm already not feeling as hungry as I used too. I have to remind myself sometimes to make sure I get enough stuff in for the day. Its true once you get past the first four or five days it gets easier. I do miss a crunch now and then. LOL - I did have (bad bad) a few of those Quest protein chips. But just got right back on. This diet is to help us shrink our livers and drop a few pounds to help in lessen any complications during surgery. It also helps us detox and ready our body and minds for the changes its about to go through. Everybody's pre-op diet is different. Just depends on your program and doctors requirements and your current health. I'm scheduled July 12th and so excited and nervous.

Awesome post thanks for the Jello protein tip I had surgery on June 21st and I have been having trouble wanting to eat let alone drink so many sweet shakes. I add ice, nutmeg and cinnamon to the vanilla shake tastes just like eggnog, well almost. Lol. Thanks for the tips have anymore?

  9. Congrats! Glad surgery went well for you. It's great that you're in such good spirits so soon after surgery. [emoji4] Best of luck with recovery!

Thank you I still have good days and not so good days, but no bad days, I'm too happy to call any day bad after this, I'm still in the honeymoon stage with all the food I'm not needing or feeling the urge to eat. Never again will I need three bowls of Cereal for Breakfast.< br>

  10. Hi. I was just wondering when everyone started Protein bars. I have been on soft meats for a week now, and sometimes I just feel like having a little something at lunch, not a "meal" or a bar for breakfast. I have been fine with eggs, chicken, beef, yogurt, cheese. I am starting with a new dietitian on Saturday.

  11. When I was new no one would answer my questions and I don't want to be that person, if you ask me something I will try my best to answer you regarding my experience, your experience could be totally different I'm just giving suggestions on what I went through and to help you realize its not such a voodoo people make it out to be.Your going to fall in love with not craving such food that you can't stop eating til you get sick.

  12. The support groups are the best place to ask questions from people that have already been there, don't waste your time not asking questions, no questions are stupid and usually some one else is wondering the same but also afraid to speak up. This is important so use your voice and learn all you can you can never be prepared too much. I also recommend the big book on whatever procedure you're having I found in the Bariatric store and its well worth it

Thank you for liking my post I like to help anyone going thru this because my whole family was against me. I almost cancelled but I put it off six years ago and I'm so happy I followed thru despite all the horror stories they told me or how much my mom expressed her dismay. My mom is full Italian so Italian families know you don't just brush off moms words, I think the idea of not eating Pasta was the worst reaction but I compromised and ate 1/2 to 1 cup only and only once a week that was before surgery but now she's worried I will only be able to have a few bites and I'll be full. I couldn't believe that a few spoonfuls would fill me up either but it does and I don't think constantly about food. Its AWESOME!!!

  13. We did not have to weigh in at the support groups I go to. We were told that we don't have to speak up if we don't wish to do so. I don't like speaking in front of a group myself so I was relieved to listen. There are always plenty of people that will speak up and everyone is at different points in the program so it makes it nice to hear others viewpoints....best of everything! Hope that helps!

  15. Hi all,
Sorry, totally new to this, but very hopeful for information. I've been struggling with my weight my entire life. I am a very successful dieter- losing 45-50 pounds relatively quickly and then gaining it back just as quickly. As an aside, I was never 'thin' even after losing that sum of weight- I was just never able to continue to keep losing or even maintain that lifestyle. In the last 3 years I've had two children and since then I cannot seem to shake the weight. I lost some after my first, but was never able to get back down to pre-baby weight. During my second pregnancy, I didn't gain much weight as I was unwell, but my daughter is now one and I weigh the same as I did the day I delivered her. I cannot seem to get myself to get on a diet. I feel so incredibly discouraged and helpless. I feel like the distance I want to go is simply unattainable because its so far from where I want to be. I started considering WLS after I saw a friend of mine have great success with it. She had a vertical sleeve gastrectomy 3 years ago, but has since gained almost 50 pounds back(!) This terrifies me. If I'm a serial dieter, is this just another 'diet' in my long history? I would appreciate any feedback- so grateful for a forum to ask questions! Also, the difficulty drinking water- this may seem silly, but I think this possible consequence post surgery scares me more than anything. I drink Water like its my job- I chug it- I have my whole life. Does ones ability to drink large volumes of water improve the further along you get from your surgery date- or is it small sips for life?

Once again, thank you for any guidance you may be able to offer!

I was sleeved on June 21st, I am doing really good I was shocked at how easy the surgery was. I went to Loyola hospital, Dr. Chand. He was awesome, I had surgery on the 21st and was out of there on the 22nd. Since I've experienced some heavy nausea twice but did well until Sunday, the afternoon I got dizzy and wasn't feeling well so I took some zofran and realized I hadn't drank any Protein at all, all day long. I drank a shake but it was a good few hours before I felt better. The incisions are so small that we tend to feel better and forget easily how our stomach is completely cut out about 75 to 80% so if you feel better fast just remember to take it easy.

  16. Not at all what I expected, little discomfort but nothing I can't handle. I really wish I would of done it a long time ago.

I have had surgery before and had a lot of gas pain , I was sleeved Wednesday at noon, prepared for gas pain so I bought a couple boxes of gas pain strips and haven't even had to open them. I was on pain meds in the hospital for the first day. I was up walking around the nurses section same night but slowly. Second day had one pill in the morning. I was discharged on Thursday by my own request because I had very little pain. Sunday nite I wasn't feeling too good so I took some zofran nausea sublingual tabs to stop some nausea, realizing I had forgotten my Protein Shakes so I drank one slowly, I felt a lot better in a couple hours. Its now Monday and I am still a little dizzy, so I am drinking my shake early. The marks on my stomach from surgery are so small and not much discomfort at all. I have five tiny puncture incision's and I have steristrips covering them, no stitches at all. If I had to do this five times just to get the results I want I would do it over and over. I have already lost about 16 lbs. I know its because I'm only drinking Protein shakes but I'm NOT feeling hungry, the first day I woke up at home I thought I was really hungry so I put aside my wanting to eat eggs and toast I ate SF Jello. I was stuffed, immediately not hungry and sticking to my diet. I can't predict what will happen in your surgery experience but mine has been minimal and I'm so happy I did this. I feel my energy coming back but I over did it Sunday and that's why I got nausea because I forgot my protein intake. No matter how good you feel you have to take it easy because your biggest wound is in your stomach and you can't see that just take it slow and you'll do great.
