  1. Depending on where you are time wise there are different restrictions based on your Dr. or Nutritionist. At some point you will be able to eat everything again... given there are some tolerance issues that some people have after surgery.
Take this time to evaluate what got you here and make changes ... its not the food .. its the amount. All food has nutritional value so stop blaming the food. Fired chicken didn't make you overweight .. its the amount of fried chicken and a everything else that maxed out your normal daily calories. Its simple math .. your body need X amount of energy everyday based on your activity. You get energy from calories .. and when you consume more calories than you need your body stores the excess.
After surgery in the back of my head, I keep saying to myself .. I can't wait to eat normal again, not bad .. just normal. Guess what .. normal is exactly what your eating 6 months post surgery. 4-5oz of meat/protein, cup of veggies and Water. That's your life from now on if you want to maintain. This is what normal people need to survive. Break the cycle of food being a source of happiness .. food doesn't make you happy.. food fuels your body and gives you energy.
I sure seem like mr gloom and doom but this is the reality check everyone needs.

I completely agree. I'm 9 wks post surgery and am allowed to eat anything now, and People keep saying to me, oh when will you be able to 'eat normally' .........I tell them this is my normal now, I'm happy with it. I pretty much eat everything except for bread. I just try to eat as healthily as possible, and in much smaller amounts. I lose weight every week, sometimes only 1.5 lbs, but I'm happy.

  2. I notice that most people's comments here say they don't eat rice or Pasta. Do you find that you're very tired, or lacking in energy without the carbs ? I'm 10 wks post op, and can eat absolutely anything, but I find that without brown rice, or wholewheat pasta, wholewheat Bagels in my diet I'm like a wet noodle all the time.....so tired ! I only eat small amounts, but I have carbs with every evening meal, sometimes lunch as well.

  3. I can't have milk! No milk!

I think it's ok in moderation, but given that I like to drink a pint a day of semi skimmed and that contains 26.6g sugar, I thought I should cut it back. I'm not really sure if that's the right thing to do or not ?? But it's like everything else, probably ok in moderation.

  4. Have you tried doing fruit infusions in your Water? I put in peaches, pineapple, watermelon, strawberry, lemon, and oranges. I also do mixes with 1/2 a Crystal Light. For example, I have a 32 oz bottle I fill with water mixed with lime juice, then add a single packet of Crystal Light sugar-free lemonade. It tastes almost like a flat Sprite.

Hi, that sounds lovely, I'll try the infused water. The Crystal light sounds interesting, is that available in U.K. ?

  5. I was dreading having to stop anti-inflammatory meds, as I've taken them for about 6 yrs for arthritis of the spine, and problem with shoulders. So, I spent months researching natural anti-inflammatories, and have found curcumin. It has to have high strength bioavailability in order to work, but I believe it's a miracle cure. I have heard very positive things about it from a couple of people I know who use it, and I have emailed the details to my Sleeve surgeon and I'm seeing him next week for a check up, so he'll tell me if they're ok to use, my GP seems to think they are ok, so fingers crossed. The brand I've bought are CurcuDyn. But I'm sure there are others available too. Good Luck

  6. I had my surgery on 24th April. Am doing great, no regrets, and so far ( touch wood) no problems. Have lost around 23lbs so far. Don't know if this is above or below average, but I'm happy. Have only started exercising a couple of days ago, so watch this space. I manage to get all my Protein from food, but that does mean my fats/sugar contents are a little too high, but I'm working on it. Best thing: loving myself again, having spent years hating myself. Worst thing: cannot find anything I like to drink as cannot abide artificial sweeteners, so I struggle to get enough liquids in, it's a running battle ! Love fresh juice, love milk, but both are a no no in large amounts. I used to drink 2-3 litres of sparkling Water a day, but just don't really like still water. Any advice welcome.

  7. Oh wow, that's an amazing weight loss, well done you. I am just coming up to 5 weeks ( sleeved 24/4/17) and have lost 22 lbs, which I'm perfectly happy with. I'm not having any Protein Shakes, I absolutely hate them, and I'm so sick and tired of spending money on different ones only to discover that they're foul ! I'm trying to get in as much Protein as poss from food, but it's sooo hard, and I've been told by my dietician that I need to up my protein now to 65g daily. I can get my protein intake up, but then my fat / sugar intake is too high. So I'm struggling. I have eggs every day for Breakfast, and I carry a chilled lunch bag with me wherever I go now with grilled chicken breast, and low fat cheese, Greek yoghurt, and beef Jerky ( which I love ) so whenever I'm hungry, I eat from my protein stash. I know it would be much easier to find a palatable Protein Shake, but I suspect we don't have as much choice here in UK.

  8. I'm nearly 3 wks in, and a friend of mine had the same surgery a yr ago, she said best piece of advice she could give me was, only weigh once a month, otherwise you're in danger of becoming obsessed with weight loss. As I'm now weighing every single day, I've decided to take her advice, I'm hoping it'll take the pressure off .

  9. Great to hear someone else say they forget to eat slowly. I'm almost 3 wks post op, and I've found that on the odd occasion ( 3 times in nearly 3 wks) when I've over eaten, it's just been by a teaspoon, but God it makes a difference ! I'm uncomfortable for hours and hours, I find hot coffee is the only thing that goes some way to fixing it. It's so hard to gauge when you're full. I can do the 20 chews thing, it's the wait in between mouthfuls I'm forgetting to do, I have to try harder !

  10. Hi, I had mine on 24th April. I'm in same boat, feel great but get sooooo tired. Fluids are my main problem too. Pre surgery I drank 2-3 litres a day of sparkling Water, so that is the only thing I miss. Not a fan of plain water, and can't bear sugar free juice, so am trying fruit infused water, and am also drinking loads and loads of milk, but not sure I'll be able to continue with that, as it's quite high in calories. Good Luck

  11. Hi I had my Sleeve Gastrectomy on 24th April. In U.K. It all went really well, and I'm doing fine, fortunately my surgeon only has his patients on liquid diet for 24hrs, then puréed / mashed foods for 2-3 wks, then I can eat anything as long as I can cut it with a fork. Does anyone know when you can take normal tablets i.e. Paracetamol. I don't do liquid meds, yeuch ! So have had no pain relief since day 2. But now and again I get a headache and would like to take a painkiller.

  12. I had my surgery on Monday. Up until Sunday, none of my friends knew, and I'm in a very close group of friends, one or two of which I knew may not approve. So I bit the bullet and sent them an email on Sunday, explaining what I was having done, why, how I felt, then said ' you all matter to me, so although I won't ask for your approval, I am asking for your support' they have all been amazing. One or two have said, 'we wish you hadn't done it, but it's your life, we love you, and we'll support you'. I've been astonished at their responses. Your friends may very well surprise you, and those people who are going to be bitchy behind your back will do so no matter what, you'll have the last laugh when you're lovely and slim.
