  1. Thank you guys for all that great information. I by no means expect him to change his life I just wanted him to be a little more sensitive the first few weeks out of surgery. I realize that this is my choice and my choice alone and that I will always be around food and will need to deal with it and plan appropriately and that’s exactly what I plan on doing. There are just so many emotions for me the first week post op that I think I just go overwhelmed with it all last night and had a melt down. You guys are the best and I truly appreciate all your advice.

The 1st few weeks after surgery were hard on me to smell food that my husband & son would get for dinner. I would go for a walk while they ate so I couldn’t see/smell it. I now go through this w/ my son coming home about 10pm after work w/ pizza, McDs, etc. I wish he would not bring this in the house & eat it in front of me. Especially since I have a problem w/ night eating & just smelling pizza, french fries, etc sends me to the frig. Still working on dealing w/ this. My husband reminds me that I will always be tempted & will have to learn to deal w/ it.I just try to have Snacks that I can eat ready & available even though t isn’t as good as the pizza smells. Good luck on your journey!

  2. i'm glad you found Zumba and are enjoying it. I've been doing it on & off for the past few years, and it's truly the only form of exercise that i can really say that i enjoy. Like you, I'm often the one going the wrong direction, but it's just so much fun. I will send you a friend request on FitBit. I've been looking for people to connect with on MyFitnessPal that have had surgery and share their food journals. I need ideas for lunches and dinners. Does anyone know of people at our point or further along that shares these? Thank you!

I bring leftovers, chicken/tuna/egg salad, lunch meat and cheese roll ups, and my new favorite is a tuna pouch mixed with a small cup of guacamole and diced tomatoes. My favorite to go meals are a bunless smothered cheeseburger, bunless grilled chicken sandwich, Chik Fil A grilled chicken nuggets or chili.

  3. I HAVE ONE! AND THIS I GUESS IS A QUESTION TOO....
    ***YOU'VE LOST WEIGHT****
AS IF I DIDN'T KNOW THAT ALREADY....
WHAT IN THE WORLD DO YOU ALL SAY WHEN SOMEONE SAYS THAT TO YOU???????? HAPPENS TO ME ALMOST DAILY AND I JUST DON'T HAVE A CLUE WHAT TO SAY, ESPECIALLY WHEN I REFUSE TO DISCUSS MY WEIGHT LOSS WITH ANYONE....

I just say that I have been working very hard, walking, exercising, and watching what I eat. I have only told a few people that I felt would be supportive. Some feel the need to ask how much weight I have lost at almost every conversation. I am only two months out, and don't feel I should have to defend my progress, stalls and all. I suppose they only think progress = pounds lost. So not true as there are many NSV to Celebrate. Oh, and my favorite pre-surgery comment, "you just need to learn how to eat right." Well now I am learning how to eat right and not be ravenously hungry all the time. Now I have an off switch and am learning to have some will power too! Ignore those who feel they have the right to ask personal questions or decide what is best for you. Besides, when did they receive their doctorate? Keep up the good work everyone!

  4. I had VSG 4/17/17 & have lost 44 lbs to date.

    HW 278, SW 263, CW 234

I hit a stall from weeks 4-6 and could not get below 240. Finally dropped 6 lbs last week. WHAAAAT! That really encouraged me and made me realize that I will plateau but will need to be a bit more patient and look at how far I have come in a relatively short time.

I walk 2-3 miles daily after dinner. Tracking my food in My Fitness Pal and doing Workweek Fitbit challenges keeps me accountable & helps to motivate me. Add me as your Fitbit pal & we can motivate each other.

I just tried Zumba & love it! Even though I feel awkward and haven't quite got any of the moves down, I am having fun while exercising & looking forward to going twice a week in July. Yes, I am the one who is still going left while everyone is going to the right.

Keep the faith and keep up the good work everyone!
Remember, if you only lose 2lbs a week, that is 100 lbs in a year!
I am sure it took so much longer to gain and the scale does not always tell a true tale. Work hard, stay the course and your efforts will soon be rewarded!

  5. Is anyone else feeling like they can eat more than before I have a big fear of stretching my stomach and I have lately been eating bread and etc I'm stilling losing but it's been hard lately to stick with the diet

I feel like I can eat more than I should. I am 5 weeks post VSG and am going from puréed to soft foods. I need to use a scale rather than eyeball & guesstimating my portions. I have a problem snacking at night and not noting a bite here & 2 bites there. I was told today to track my carbs & not go over 40-50 carbs daily. My Fitness Pal is helping me track my food and be accountable.

  6. Needs to let you track ur calories & goals EVEN IF ur on a VERY LOW CALORIE GOAL like 800/day & such...

Needs to remember ur recipies & fav food items longer than just a couple months bc i eat the same stuff on repeat alot...

Needs waaaaaay better variety (& more accurate) exercise count than MyFitnessPal...wanna know what's getting burnt while weight lifting too..

I would like to also see a reminder for meds/vitamins/supplements and an interaction list/recommendations regarding what not to take together or what times are most beneficial. Several meal plans for each post surgery phase, that uses real food and not just promoting certain brands of supplements/protein products would be helpful to us newbies. I felt overwhelmed just trying to figure out how I was going to get all of my Protein, Water, meds & supplements in a day and timing it so I would allow 60-90 minutes after meals before drinking & still get it all in to meet the daily intake quota.

  7. Thank you! That helps!

I am 52, my blood sugar was out of control & putting me on insulin actually made it worse. I had 3 of my doctors recommend the sleeve to help my diabetes and I had my VSG 1 month ago. I have only taken insulin 6-7 times since surgery and my fasting blood sugar this morning was 91. Before surgery my waking blood sugar was usually 225-250. I am still taking metformin but am so happy that I do not have inject insulin before every meal. I only have to test once a day at varying times. I have not had neuropathy pain in my feet/legs since & I think I may be getting feeling back in my fingers too. This has been a godsend for my health & the weight loss a huge bonus too.

  8. I was just sleeved 4/17/17 no told a handful of family & friends. There are some people that I know will ask how I lost the weight and I plan on telling them that I have been working very hard watching what I eat and exercising. That is it! It really is none of their business and it is those that will think I took the easy way out. It is definitely not easy and I don't feel I have to defend my decision to them. My family & friend's that I did tell have been very supportive. A few are constantly wanting updates and I may have to just say "enough" when they ask how much I have lost this week. The reflection on the scale does not accurately represent the NSV I see in the mirror.

  9. My hubby surprised me w/ an Instant Pot 1 week after VSG. I just started puréed foods yesterday. I made crack chicken w/ 1/2 cream cheese & 1/2 Greek yogurt. Today I made made a mojo pork loin (mine puréed) and served it w/ mashed cauliflower & canned spinach. It is so nice to put ingredients in and go walk or do Zumba and come home w/ dinner done an hour later. I would also be interested in more Instant Pot recipes. I am hoping to get an IP cookbook for Mother's Day.

  10. I don't get these unrealistic expectations! How long did it take to gain 35 lbs? This is not a magic surgery that will dissolve your fat In record time. I guess we all wished there were a pill that would cancel all our calories & bad choices. I am only 3 weeks post op today and just got over a 10 day stall on the scale despite walking 2-3 miles per day. Yes, it is frustrating to not see the scale reflect my hard work but my reflection in the mirror showed that my face had slimmed, I lost a chin, and my pants were getting baggy. Celebrate the non scale victories as the scale does not reflect all of your efforts on a daily basis. I have only lost 15 lbs since surgery. Be patient and make good choices. You will eventually see more results as your body overcomes the trauma it has just endured.

  11. I kinda feel like I'm losing slower than everyone else too. Lost 16 lbs pre op and another 7 lbs post op. Tomorrow is my 2 weeks post op anniversary. Very disappointed at myself for not losing more weight. Getting 80 to 90 grams of Protein a day, able to have a total of 64oz of liquid per day and consuming 500 to 600 calories. Still not losing [emoji20] hopefully it will get better.

I was sleeved 4/17/17 and, after a 10 day stall w/ walking 2-3 miles per day for the last 2 weeks, the scale finally moved today. Do not be disappointed as your body is just trying to catch up w/ the trauma it just endured. It will get better as your body heals, you will see the loss reflected on the scale. Rejoice in the non scale victories. A thinner face, looser pants and being able to resist temptation, as hard as THAT can be sometimes! I think when people ask "how much have you lost so far", I might just reply w/ "enough" as the change I see does not match the # reflected on the scale. Besides, I can't expect to lose 30 years of weight gain in less than one month. I know they are just curious but ask me in a year and I will give them a #. You will get there, just give it some time to work.

  12. I called my NUT regarding the same thing and concerned it would stretch my sleeve. She said it would not be necessary during full liquids and could not stretch my pouch either. I do wait 30 min before "eating" full liquids and try to wait 60 mins after to get in the habit. If I feel I need a drink before then, I just take a sip. Beginning puréed foods Wed & can't wait!

  13. I am like you Cajun1 as I had no pain, nausea or issues from my recent VSG on 4/17/17. I am still on full liquids and am looking forward to starting puréed foods this week and then soft foods in 3 more weeks. I feel I can eat/drink 4-8 oz at a time, and often feel like I can eat ( more like drink) more. I just want something to chew, so today, I got sf chewing gum and that really satisfied the urge to chew. I actually gained 5 lbs from all the IV fluids and then lost 2 lbs a day for 5 days. Then the scale stopped until this morning. I lost 3 lbs after a 10 day stall. I have been walking 2-3 miles per day and couldn't understand why I was not shedding pounds. My face has thinned and I lost a chin, (good riddance!) my pants are getting looser. Then I realized that it took 30 years to gain it and I should be more patient. Our bodies just endured a traumatic change and must be allowed time to heal & adjust. Be patient, give it time and Celebrate every small victory.

  14. What are some things you ate to change it up on your liquid phase? I'm about sick of yogurt and Popsicles and pudding and Tomato Soup and broths.
So far the best thing I ate was the broth from a healthy veggie Soup my husband made. It was so good I managed to eat 4 Oz and still wanted more.
For those that have gone through the soft phase... what was your first soft food recipe? I start soft foods in 1 week and am looking forward to it. I found several pinterest recipes and was thinking of doing either a ricotta bake or refried beam Bake for my first soft food meal. Or would it be better to start with a soup. The healthy veggie soup mentioned above is a base of beef broth with spinach, zucchini, carrots, bell peppers, onions, and broccoli in it. So all very tender.
Just looking for ideas so I know what to buy at the store and also so I have something to look forward to and get through this week.
Also, how did you handle your first family get together? We have a mother's day cookout Saturday and Idk how I'm going to handle it. Only a couple know what I had done

I have been surviving on butternut squash soup, sf Jello, sf pudding & sf popsicles. 1 have 2 Protein Shakes & 1 yogurt daily to meet my Protein requirement. Blended cream of shrimp soup & costco lobster bisque (again blended) is especially yummy as is egg drop soup from a fav Chinese take out. A bit more substantial than broth or bouillon. I was sleeved 4/17/17 and can't wait to move on to puréed foods in a few days. I am looking forward to the making the ricotta bake. I plan on making some tuna, chicken & egg salad w/ Greek yogurt & herbs, instead of mayo, to boost the protein. I also saw a low carb enchilada bake that looked good as well as a buffalo chicken bake. Check out crack chicken made in a crockpot or chicken alfredo served w/ zoodles or mashed cauliflower.

Looking forward to seeing more puréed/soft food recipes!
