  1. Did anyone take off less time? I am having surgery on a Wednesday and was planning to return to work the following Monday.

I have a mostly sedentary job but end up raking up ~10k steps from 9-5 walking around my office building.

I have a sedentary job too. I sit behind a desk most of the day and still took 2 weeks. And when I went back I wish I had taken the 3 week. I was ok in the mornings but around noon I'd hit a wall and would be useless. Plus struggling to eat and drink was time consuming.

  2. This is very helpful information. Thank you guys, I think I'll cut back on somethings. I am going to set some timers, I think this might help encourage me to eat. I have no hunger at all and it makes it really hard to eat anything because I just don't want to. I bought bottles with the ounces listed on the side so I am going to use this to track my Water. On my discharge notes I noticed today it said to eat 5-7 small 1/2 cup meals a day. I have definitely not being doing this and I think as another poster mentioned I might be suffering from malnutrition and dehydration. I have been experiencing extreme thirst and extreme exhaustion and some lightheartedness when standing. It has been so difficult, I just do not want to eat... Its a weird feeling. I will try harder and keep you guys posted. I will reduce my walking to just a mile a day for now until I can get accustomed to this "diet". Thank you again for all the helping.

I set alarms on my phone to remind myself to eat. After I eat I set the timer for 30 minutes and after it goes off I start drinking water again. I still can't get the 64oz I'm suppose to but I got up to 50oz today.

  3. I could barely get up out of a chair with out help. I didn't exercise until I was 3 almost 4 weeks. I did walk around the house and the yard but I wasn't one of those ones that walked 5 miles 2 days later. I could barely make I through the store and actually didn't on one trip. I pushed clothes to a corner of a display table and sat down on it and dared someone to say something to me. Lol. Start slow. It's better to start slow then go all out and set your recovery back.

  4. I'm 4 weeks and 4 days today PO. I'm back at work since May 2nd. The first week was rough. I'd be exhausted by 1pm. I have some days that are better than others. Some days I have tons of energy and some it takes all I have to get up and go to the bathroom. I think everyone's different. I would read on here while I was off work people walking 2 and 3 miles after their first week. I though wow and I'm lucky to make it to the fridge for a Protein Shake or the bathroom. Take it at your own pace and don't read too much into what one person can do that your not able. It's a major surgery that your body is adjusting too.

  5. Real roast beef is too tough for a fresh sleeve, eating stuff like that makes your sleeve work over time and it can twist. Google twisted sleeve. That is one of those complications that does show up until later on, but your actions now can create complications later on.
Post-op diet is a prescription to prevent complications, this is a serious diet, not a time to experiment, you have the rest of your life for that, control yourself for 3 to 6 months. Your life is worth it.

Trust me! I won't be. I intend on going back to Soups and scrambled eggs. This has spooked me!

  6. My book for soft solids say lean, shaved deli meats. Perhaps you ate too much? Everybody is different. Maybe you weren't ready? When I was bumped up to soft solids I was told to go home and have a scrambled egg with a little cheese grated in. I got so sick that night, I was sure something was wrong. And I found out that the diet foods that have artificial sweetners don't agree with me either. I was told if something doesn't agree, put it away for a month or two and then try it again.

I handled a scrambled egg well as well as tuna and chicken salad. I've has refried Beans and did good with that too. I think I'm going back to Soups for a while.

  7. Yeah, I would be pissed if my surgeon's office didn't have someone on call... especially since they make it very clear that if you have to go to the ER, they want you to go to Poudre Valley Hospital or at least have the ER docs contact PVH if you have to go to another ER.
To illustrate how irritating that is, the following hospitals are closer to me than PVH:
    • Longmont United Hospital
    • UCHealth Long's Peak Hospital
    • Boulder Community Hospital (both the main campus and the Foothills campus)
    • Medical Centre of the Rockies
    • Exempla St. Joseph
    • UCHealth Broomfield Hospital
    • North Metro Medical Centre
    • Banner McKee Hospital

Mine didn't specify where to go. However she has privileges in 4 different hospitals and one is closer than the one I actually had surgery at.
