Deeme, of course that works as well.. I was just trying to find someone or a few people to keep in touch with that are at the same place of this journey. I think a lot of things that happen whether it is emotional or physical, most outsiders would not understand what it is all about.

Go TRIBE!!
I had my pre op aapointment today with my surgeon. I had to purchase my Protein and suppliments today as well. I think this always seemed so far off in the beginning that I can't believe surgery time is almost here. I am excited, nervous, and a little freaked out. I suppose that is normal. I go Tuesday to the hospital for the pre op stuff there. I'm not sure what all they do at that time. Then it is one week to go and the real fun begins.

I have Blue Cross Blue Shield as well. When I started this process in February I called Blue Cross Blue Shield to check on the requirements. They sent me a list of all of the criteria that I needed to have completed. I suggest calling Blue Cross Blue Shield and they will be able to give you the information and send you out a paper that gives you all of the criteria.

All my information was submitted to insurance on Friday (9-1). I know it is a waiting game at this point and have been warned it can take 2 weeks to a month for my insurance to make a decision (BC.BS of Michigan GM). to my suprise I was called today to tell me I was approved! I was not prepared to get an answer so quickly! I have my 2 hour nutrition appointment tomorrow and will get my surgery date then. They still have openings this month!

There is a thread that I came across on here a little while ago that had put together a suggested hospital checklist from suggestions of dozens of members here. I tweaked slightly, but this is what I'll use for my general guideline to plan before surgery. I think some things will be left to the wayside, but a good starting list.

I am pre op but wondering about insurance coverage on Protein powders, supplements, etc. I tried calling my insurance and rx. Insurance said i did not have coverage for items like that under medical. RX needed specific brands/items to "run a test claim" to see if it is covered. Has anyone had any luck?

I won't be having my surgery until probably late September or early October. I was wondering if there were items that you wish you had taken to the hospital or items that you took that we're helpful.

bring an extra long iphone/ipad charger. like a 10-foot one
Thanks that is a great idea!

I am hoping to have a date close to that. I will have all of my requirements completed by 9-2 and it will be a waiting game at that point.

i started my journey in February. I just had my 3rd appointment with my nutritionist. I have competed every requirement except for the pap test, which is scheduled for July. I am in a situation where my husband has incredible insurance. Besides the $150 report writing fee the psychologist required for the psych evaluation, i have no cost for my surgery. (as long as it is done in network) Problem is he was laid off in January. His insurance continues for 8 months, which gets me to September. I am so stressed bc of all od this. I recently lost my job in April. (doesnt help the stress levels). The hubby's insutance could get extended if he is called back to work or goes to another plant. If he goes to another plant, it would be out of state and he would come home on the weekends. (more stress)
My nutritionist told me if my insurance was ending i have to pay for cobra to cover 2 months after surgery to make sure any complications are covered. I have debated cashing in my 401K to cover the extra months.

I am in the Youngstown area. I see my nutritionist for my second appointment tomorrow. I have gotten all of my requirements out of the wau except for seeing the nutritionist for 6 months. However i may have an issue with insurance being active when it comes time that i could have surgery. My husband was laid ofd in January and unless he is called back (doesnt look like he will be) then we will only have insurance till the end of september.

Thank you for your reply. I realize this may not be a cure and erase everything, but it does give me hope that it is possible and at the least it will help me get off of some meds.

I started the process in February too. I have seen the shrink, gotten an ultrasound of my gallbladder, an upper assxcope, and a stress test. I sae my nutritionist last month and see her again this tuesdsy. My insurance requires 6 months with her. That puts me in the September timeframe.

I am looking at a surgery date of probablt September. I am curious how those with Diabetes are after surgery. Are you still on meds/insulin? Have you noticed any reversal in your complications?

I'm with you. The puree stage grosses me out. I'm not sure what I am going to eat. Good Luck on your surgery.
