7 hours ago, 24601 said:People have strong opinions about this, but I will tell you my personal experience. I had a BMI of 29 and I had the surgery done almost a year and a half ago. I could not lose those 50 lbs, just like you mentioned. I remembered what it was like to live in a lighter body, and I was miserable every single day, battling my weight with yo-yo dieting. I was very active, but I couldn't seem to get my eating under control. I tried every diet, sought counseling, read self help books, meditated...everything. Finally, I felt I was at the end of my rope when I learned about the sleeve. I went to Mexico a month later and had it done. Now I feel so much healthier, it is so easy to exercise (and I love doing it!), I fit into a size 4, and I don't stress about food every second of the day. Yes, it is a challenge at first, but I would do it all over again. One of the best gifts I could ever give myself! So take from my story what you will, but I don't believe people need to wait until they are morbidly obese with comorbidities to benefit from the sleeve. Another great thing is that surgery was less risky and recovery was pretty breezy because I was in pretty decent health to begin with. Good luck with your decision!
That is great . Well done24601. similar story to mine , in good health but age 54 so despite being extremely active , food was my issue and realise now at 2 weeks post op gastric sleeve , why . Loving not having to think

I had gastric sleeve two weeks ago today and similar to you Tamijo62,
My BMI 30. Already feeling less tortured and having to constantly think of food as was always a battle .
so far have lost 5 kg approx 10 pounds . So pleased with any loss.
good luck and happy to help support you on your journey . I also have a morbidly obese sister , who is six years older than me so was always constantly aware that I could easily follow the same path .

Hi everyone , I had bmi of 30 and like similar stories have read , probably unconsciously gained last bit , as has been so frustrated and as got older , almost 54, was so disheartening .
So self paid and had surgery , gastric sleeve Tuesday 4/4/2017. So now Day 3 post op . So far so good . Expected much worse as am also a. Nurse , and had looked after people years ago when only choice was banding or bypass .
