  1. wow, you are great though!

my question is- why in the world doesn't the doctor's office measure my body fat? everytime I go in- it's all about the scale! and I'm so crazy I would strip naked to save a pound!

It sure would be helpful if they did some body fat testing!

I had my trainer do some caliper pinching and without looking at the paper, I think it was 31% or 33%- oh yah- but he didn't know about my internal body fat... so it could be more?

whatever the case- it wasn't pretty- but hopefully someday it will be...

I am trying to stay within my heart rate while working out

122-132- do you think that's about right?

  2. Bandana- I can totally relate to the ice cream addiction!

I have been there done that with eating sweets and saying "I don't care- this is so worth being fat for" Then, I hate myself the next day. I need electric shock therapy! What flavor were you into? Sometimes substituting the flavor helps but with a lower calorie treat. I found sugar free fat free chocolate popsicles- my problem is clearly that if it is a "forbidden food" aka something I never could have on previous diets- I want it more. That is why ice cream is such a big deal. I don't think there will ever be a time in my life I could truly enjoy sweets without feeling like I shouldn't have them!!! I'm horrible!

Brad- you have some great insights that I would love to continue talking about. For instance, my Dr. was telling me 800 cals a day and I never ever followed that because Gd forbid something happened and I had to lose my restriction- I know the weight would pile back on. So I try to stick with the 1200-1500 route. I also am an angel about getting my Protein in every day- at least 60 g. Also excellent Water drinking! Went from walking 3 miles once a week to ellipitcal machine 4-5x a week for 30min-45min getting sweaty, 5-6 level resistance. I also started working out with a trainer doing weights for an hour 3x week for the past 3 weeks. I have been up and down from 161, 164, 166, my weight is different every day and has been since November. I feel like my only resort to get to the next level is to out carbs completley. I know you might object to that- but can you explain why I am not dropping some major lbs?

Should I start working out for 2 hours a day? I really don't think my trainer understands the band- but at least he gets me in the gym and forces me to do things I would never ever do on my own!

  3. You just got the band and I think it's completely normal to go thru this. It is a definate change and that is overwhelming in itself. You got this done for a reason and right now you might be uncomfortable and not rationalizing it completely.

Try to relax, breathe, do some light yoga.

In this moment you have it in and there is no reason to turn back after coming this far.

    Give it a chance.

I sometimes think why did I get this band- what was wrong with me why I could never lose the weight. Why couldn't I just eat vegetables all the time to fill my hunger?

Well - it is not easy for some people to lose weight. And I still never want to eat my veggies!!! I can honestly say without this band I might have gained 35 lbs instead of lost it!

  4. I never in a million years imagined myself researching pb and vomit on a Friday night!

A lot of people here are always asking what PB means. Why don't they explain it in the lap band seminars, eh?

I am so confused, but here is my interpretation:

    PB

When restricted, food gets stuck by not chewing well enough, eating too fast, or food not agreeing with the band. (it's like russian roulette with each new fill) Painful uncomfortable sensation in chest and sometimes throat. Sliming (excessive saliva) occurs in attempt to help dislodge the object.

for me: I lean over toliet and the food plops out. Sometimes a little finger coaching is needed, which makes me feel bulemic.

    Vomitting

As I remember it before getting the band, it included stomach acid, resembled the texture of oatmeal. ( it could vary). It would makes me extremely naseaous and panicky. I would never ever want to do it. I would be clamy and lightheaded.

So tell me so I can know: is this a PB or Vomitting?

I had a bad episode about 8 hours ago with raw carrots that you may have read about. It was a BIG episode that made me suffer for an hour until I just knew the carrot was making a comeback. This included like a gigantic hiccup feeling that I swear I felt my innards spasm as orange carrot puree came out in 3 upheavals. None of the vomitting symptoms I discussed, but definately not an easy "open and plop". Definately not a typial pb. It felt like it came from deeper in my body. Like I made it come up from under the band...

Should I be freaking out and going in for flouro on Monday?

Has this happened to anyone else?

Yes, I know, raw carrots are e-v-i-l

    hellllp!!!!

  5. thanks for all your help. I just posted that pic!

well, I drank 2 cups of hot green tea and it went thru- does that mean my band is allright? i tried some Soup for dinner and some cheese. Don't feel any pain. Just burping a million times- don't know why! If I felt pain- that would mean a slip, right? I'm paranoid!

i really don't recall ever being told not to eat raw carrots in any of my materials!!!

i hope everything will be ok... with my luck it happens on a weekend when the dr. office is closed!

  6. carrot crisis update:

I just threw it up- the force of it coming out of my body is really freaking me out- it was like vomitting before I got the band- but without vomit- usually when I pb- it's simple and just plops out- this was like the excorsist- but orange.

did I majorly f things up with my band?? should I be on liquids now? what do I do? does this warrant paging my dr? his office is closed now

  8. 1. can't pb them up

    2.papaya enzyme not working

any other suggestions? (besides never to eat them raw again!!!)

    I chewed really well too.

Who would have thought I would be in this much agony from a carrot!?!? this isn't fair!

I would like to try some hot tea- but don't want to make it worse... hopefully someone can answer soon

the carrot literally feels like it is in my throat and chest still

  9. Had a fill last tuesday... 4.5 in 9.75

I really don't "feel" like I am that restricted-based on how long my hunger is subsided for- just depends on the kind of food and how slow I chew, etc. Every fill has been a new "experiement" and learning experience- some days I can eat chicken, some days I can't...

anyways, this fill has made me pb more than any other and I notice that I have been sneezing before I do it- it's just one really big achoo

    WHAT's THAT ABOUT?

  10. people say things out of ignorance, fear or jealousy

even though I am in the slow loser club, I know for sure things would have been a lot worse if they went in the other direction!

oh the things I could have eaten if I did not have this band!

What I have noticed so far is that people who have never had a weight problem can not and will never understand and the people who do have a weight problem and make comments are what I said on the first line

  11. ha, try this one-

at Thanksgiving dinner, this friend of the family was like "oops, I forgot to bring the broccoli for us"

(like I asked her to bring it, riiiight)

    later, she says...

"the white meat is less calories than the dark meat"

well not for me! The white meat would get stuck. Too bad I couldn't have pb'd in her purse, by accident, of course

I definately do not know how to politely tell people to f off without getting into a whole dialouge about the band!

  12. things have changed since surgery- diet has probably changed

    1. evaulate your food intake- make sure extra sugar isn't "weighing down your" motivation

2.have you tried the chewable Vitamins thru walgreens made for bariatric surgery

3.make sure you are getting your protien in and enough water- a fantastic website is the daily plate

    4. get your thyroid checked

    5. make sure you are getting enough rest

did you have a sleep study done before surgery to make sure you don't have sleep apnea?
