  1. I've lost nearly 80 pounds on a 3 month pre-op effectively on the Keto diet. Not something I'd personally want to do on a permanent basis (some of the underlying rationales behind this diet I will keep, such as very low carbs), but no doubts whatsoever it, like the surgery, has/will be an effective tool for my goal of weight loss. Some of the other benefits I've had during this pre-op diet:
    - Stage 3 liver fibrosis: Significant liver improvement on liver function tests and fibroscan showing dramatic shrinking and softening, all liver function tests normal for first time in 1-2 years. I was heading toward cirrhosis (non-alcoholic), now liver is heading toward being healed.
    - Type 2 diabetes: hBA1c from 7.9 to 5.7, often times scoring 4.4-4.6 on fasts. I expect my June 1st hBA1c to likely take me off the rest of my diabetes meds. (being taken off 1 of my diabetes meds, Forxiga, immediately on Thursday)
    - Spinal injury: L5/S1 compression fracture, significantly more pain relief due to losing weight
    - RHR improved from 90-100 to 50-60
    - BP improved from 150-170/110-120 to 110-125/70-90, being taken off one BP meds (hydrochlorothiazide) immediately on Thursday

What meal plan do you follow ?

  2. I'm not nervous really, just anxious to get it over with! I have two small kids and so I just want it to be done and come out with no complications! My preop is this morning! How about you!?

I'm not local I live in Ohio and am flying to Texas for the surgery. I'm nervous and anxious too. But I also have 3 kids 3,7,9 and I'm scared of the what if , like about going to sleep and not waking up etc uggg

  3. I am not sure abut deaths from being put to sleep. But yes, there are reported deaths from complications like leaks and blood clots.
Check pubmed and do a search.
The gastric sleeve is a simpler surgery than the bypass but not less invasive. It's a major surgery with significant risks.

I'm having the mini sleeve which is less invasive then the either of them it's the same as the gastric sleeve but minimally invasive

  4. The only Dr I know of who performs that surgery is Dr Todd McCarty in Dallas. And it's actually 2 small incisions, one is in your belly button the other under your ribs I think on the right side, and then they take an endoscope down your esophagus. Their cash price was 11k that they quoted me. I don't know if that was having my insurance pay for hernia repair or something. You might ask for yourself. I will be having it done with insurance in January.
