I felt great, then at 4 weeks, started to get really tired. My nurse said my body was leaning where to look for fuel. It had to learn to burn fat. For me it lasted about a week.

Since you're self pay, I would at least check prices of the other surgeons. But if you're happy with his cost too, that's great! I talked with 6 practices. 3 actual surgeons, but two cost so much I would never use them.

I'm having one soon too. From what read, it's not much worse than an mri machine. I haven't ever had any sort of contrast injected, so I'm not sure what to expect from that. Please tell us how it goes!

I'm having a similar issue. My PCP prescribed me a medicine used for IBS, stomach cramps, and a whole bunch of other issues. She thinks it could be colon cramps. My issue is very similar to yours, mild constant crampy feeling, but occasionally excruciating. No nausea, vomiting, etc. She told me to ask the surgeon for their thoughts and they recommended another ultrasound, and if that came back normal, a HIDA scan. Of course now that I have medication to try, the pain hasn't been bad enough for me to use it and see if it works. But I searched this site and it seems like stomach cramps are not totally unheard of after surgery and the medicine helps. It's called hyoscyamine. I'm not sold on it being gallbladder, but will go along with the tests just in case. I know gallbladder can be jerks.

Walk, walk, walk, and try laying on your left side. It really helps the gas pass.

I am always baffled when people say they have pain from their hernia repair. I don't doubt them, but I don't understand how someone can tell the difference when the diaphragm and stomach are so close together. The surgeon uses a few stitches to tighten the diaphragm around the esophagus. I had minimal pain from my severe hernia where my stomach was bulging and I had zero pain from anything except gas. Everyone is different. Talk to your Dr about how they repair it and see if a better understanding helps ease your mind.

This is offered at the medical university in Charleston, SC. Not covered by most insurances.

Often, patients trust their Dr's word about insurance requirements and have never checked on their own. Mistakes happen, and poof, Dr's office was wrong and all the requirements were not met. Or, someone might be in process, and the plan changes. And sometimes the requirements are not specific like 'efforts of weight loss have failed'. How the heck do you prove that? You can submit what you think might be proof, but insurance might come back and say sorry! Not good enough.

Walk, walk, walk! Lying on my left side helped me, or laying over the edge of the bed. Mine came in waves, starting day 2, getting better through day 5. But the left side trick would help me pass it almost every time... Feel better soon!

Are you sure you havent had it for years and managed it with Otc medications like prilosec and tums? And forgot to have your PCP note those medications in your chart?

I just got my 8 month bloodwork back and was distressed to see my LDL and triglycerides sky high. But I expected it, as it runs in my family.
I bought fish oil, am going to try to eat more salmon, greens and maybe Beans. Right now my Protein comes from meat, cheese and yogurt. I can't totally manage mine with diet, but these changes would be good for me anyways. And maybe allow me to take 10mg VS 20mg of lipitor. I'm already taking flaxseed and it seems to have helped my good cholesterol.

I think if you go to MX, testing is included. Staying here in the US, all the little things add up. I had probably $400 in preop copay, 3 tanks of gas to drive to FL, 5 nights hotel ($600ish), and probably 40 prescriptions. Plus food for hubby. Then surgery was $8899. The deal breaker for me and MX was the extra nights I would need to stay to accommodate flight times. I couldn't do same day flights and make it there by the 'need to be here by...' times. Same thing to come home. They said to get flights after 2, but there was like 1 flight at 8pm, that got home at like 2am, then a 2 hour drive home. It just was more convenient to drive to Florida. I think total cost was $1500 more to do it in the US for me.

Laying on your left side might help. Hope it passes soon!

I gave the requirements to my PCP and insurance covered it. I had to have bloodwork, ekg and psych eval. I didn't need anything else because of my age (46) and medical history.

Yes, it sucks. For me, they would have to send all the weights during preop. Not just 1., unless you had multiples in the same month. It wouldn't hurt to ask her or a coordinator for advice. I really hope it works out.

Oh, some Dr's allow to weigh with a purse. Mine didn't and made me take my Jean jacket and shoes off for weigh in and BP checking.

Lead fishing weights are great. The 4oz egg shaped one's. I could fit 4 in a coin pocket for 1lb. Also, my ankle weights have removable bars, that fit into back pockets and sports bras nicely (might need stitching to prevent them from clanging around). Or so I've read.
I only had a 2lb buffer. I had to maintain it or else. I tried, and ended up doing self pay. It was too risky for me over 2lbs. I wasn't willing to invest 6 months in something with that much risk. , and force myself to stay unhealthy the entire time.

I have federal BCBS, and that would have disqualified me. I had to be at 35 w/comorbidities or 40 without when they submitted to insurance, after all the requirements were met.

I mine didn't start till about 4. 5 months. I took all my Vitamins, got all my Protein, and still lost hair for about 6 weeks. Here is a decent writeup on telogen effluvium. https://www.drdkim.net/ask-the-dietitian/understanding-hair-loss-after-bariatric-surgery/

I used lactaid pills till I finished the case of Premier Protein, then switched to muscle milk. Cheaper, and lactose free.

Your Dr is the one who determines if it's medically necessary or not. Obesity is a clinical definition, and if your Dr declares you obese, that should be it. Waiting periods might come into play, but HR shouldn't be making a judgment call as to necessity. I called our provider, gave the facts, and a determination was made. I needed less than 1, but took 4 and wish I took 6. I haven't had that much time off since I was 16 years old. It was marvelous! I

I hit my personal goal this past Saturday. Surgery was 8/11 and my goal was a 25 Bmi. I've lost 58 lbs total and can fit into size 4/6. But I'm bummed that my cholesterol is still high and my A1C is still in the pre-diabetes diabetes range.

It sounds like he could learn to be a little more sensitive. And there is no doubt that 4 days post op, there is a lot going on with your body. Surgery is hard on everyone...
But, as much as it all sucks, similar situations are going to happen for the rest of your life. There will always be birthdays, work events, family gatherings where people eat. It's easier on yourself if you learn to ignore them, leave the room, etc. I don't advocate leaving, as you miss out on the personal interaction. If you *want* to miss out on that, it's a different story! our stupid head tells us we're missing out, but food shouldn't have that much power, it's just fuel. And not even good fuel!
I don't have it all figured out...but I really hope you feel better soon and you and your husband can get on better terms. His support will help you be more successful.

Hello, I am considering Dr. Taggar as well. So you only stayed in the hospital one day? I would be traveling from NJ to Dr. Taggar and I am curious how much time you needed to take off in Florida?
Thanks in advance
We drove Thursday, surgery was Friday. I paid for 2 nights in the hospital, but was discharged after 1 night. Follow up at the office 10am Monday morning, then we drove home. He only does surgery like 2 days a week, then sees you in the office the next office day. Some people stay 2 nights, but I didn't think I needed it. Nothing wrong with the hospital, I'd just rather stay with hubby at the hotel.

AshAsh1,
next visit, as your Dr about the fish oil. I started taking it, but my PCP told me new research has shown that fish oil hasn't really shown to help. i dont have any citations for you, but she was on board with the ground flax (my good cholesterol backs this one up) and said I'd be better off giving the fish oil to my dog. totally contrary to what I thought!
