Def Self Pay - Now, Where To Go...?

I went to Dr Taggar, and had an amazing experience. But he doesn't offer BLIS, only dr wizman does. Also, check out Blossom Bariatrics in Vegas. Cheap flights, nice hotels and his price is somewhere around $11k. Was one of my top choices, but I chose Dr Taggar. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Too Much Meds

I had to use dial soap the night before and morning of. Take 1 ppi, night before and morning of. Post op pain meds, if needed (they weren't) That's it! I was relieved. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Insurance denied

Lindstrom obesity advocacy is a law firm that works with clients who have been denied. I haven't used them, but have read great things. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Nausea after surgery?

I've always gotten horribly sick after anesthesia. They gave me the patch this time and I had no issues. What a world of difference! Just voice your concerns with the preop team and they should take excellent care of you. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Ladies

I don't bleed much (thanks ablation! ) but I suffer the same voracious appetite as white sail. I don't think I need the extra calories, but I try to make OK choices so I don't go overboard. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

Cost of wls across the south

I had mine done in coral springs Florida for $8899. Several practices in the area, Dr wizman and Dr Taggar (my choice) with Bariatrix, FL and Dr shillingford. All very close in price. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app
  8. So, since surgery 8 weeks ago, I have been having heart palpitations. Had another ekg, and my Pcp and Bariatric nurse both guessed electrolyte imbalance. 1st labs come back fine, so no electrolyte imbalance. It happens after I eat, but not always. Ham, tomato soup w/1/2 grilled cheese, chicken tenders, all cause my heart rate to go over 120, sometimes up to a few hours. I'm not always hitting my protein goal, get my water and stay under 60 carbs total. White bread toast doesn't make it happen, nor did a soft serve ice cream cone. So, nurse thinks dumping, even though my only symptoms is palpitations and feeling like I have to sit down. I've seen anecdotal evidence that this is normal digestive processing for some Bariatric patients. As a side note, my BP monitor has thrown the irregular heart beat indicator a handful of times since surgery. But no one seems concerned. Anyone else have a similar experience? My current bmi is 29, and I'm off cholesterol meds, BP meds and my sugar is not high any more. So a real heart problem isn't super high on my worry list. Could I just be super sensitive to carbs and be one of those who easily dump post sleeve? If so, at least it's an easy fix. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Heartburn

Yes, you can take Tums, I've seen others take milk of magnesia. Or otc heartburn meds like pepcid or tagamet. Save the nexium or Prilosec for severe cases. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Dumping sleevers

Well, the weekend was a fail. Experienced 'dumping' with sugar free pudding and a chocolate muscle milk protein shake. thanks for the feedback.
  11. I started the process at 35, had surgery when my bmi was 33. I had high cholesterol, high BP, pre diabetes, and type II hiatal hernia. All are resolved, 8 weeks later. Easy surgery, the only issue I'm having is dumping. Black beans, sugar free pudding, ham, and it's slightly distressing me. But I've gone from 195 to 159 in 8 weeks. Insurance Approved.

Incision pain was zero. Gas pain was a 10, in waves. Especially on the 10 hour car ride home. Gas, moan and groan, pass gas, feel OK. Repeat, over and over for about 3 days. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

Acid reflux/GERD - will this go away?

I think Linx with the sleeve is still in the clinical trials phase. Dr Michael(?) here in Charleston is part of it through August 2018, but it's a nationwide trial. It's on my list to check into if I get reflux. I'm afraid to stop the Ppi, but it would be so nice to be off it! Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Not full

My plan allowed purees starting on day 3. What does your plan look like for you? I noticed on day 4, I ate 1 bite of yogurt. Now, at 8 weeks I can eat 4oz of puree, but don't feel full unless I'm eating dense protein like meat. To me, full feels gross. Even if you can eat more, stick to the amount prescribed and you will be fine. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Dumping sleevers

I have excuses for all of these things. Being sick for 9 days and wanting a piece of toast one day, and then a small soft serve to soothe my throat. Hubby being sick so we stop for soup and I have a few bites of grilled cheese. I'm not perfect. 1 piece of toast, an ice cream, a few chicken tenders ... if this the worst that I've strayed from my plan, I'm OK with it. I've logged it and am meeting my fluid, protein and weight loss goals. My plan had me on regular food after 1 week, though I didn't make perfect choices a few times. The ham was allowed on my plan.

    No restriction

I'm sure each plan is different, but we are considered in maintenance once we lose 75 % of excess weight, or hit 1 year. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app
  17. I also found this post online. https://blossombariatrics.com/dr-tom-becomes-brand-ambassador/ You can also google "surgery carb loading", and read stories here where plenty of surgeons are ditching the "nothing after midnite rule" for better outcomes. I asked this question before my surgery and the responses were not pleasant. Research shows positive results, but it doesn't seem to be main stream yet. I found enough evidence that led me to try it. Side note, I had pre-diabetes, but didn't know it - my sugar was borderline but my PCP never was concerned. Here is a very quick google search result listing two articles. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16919107 http://publishing.rcseng.ac.uk/doi/full/10.1308/003588414X13824511650614 Results: Seventeen randomised controlled trials with a total of 1,445 patients who met the inclusion criteria were analysed.5–21 The size of the studies varied from 6 to 252 patients. All trials excluded patients with metabolic disorders including diabetes mellitus, ASA (American Society of Anesthesiologists) grade >2, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease and those associated with factors affecting gastric emptying (obesity, pregnancy, sliding hernia of stomach, medications). The protocol for provision of preoperative carbohydrate was variable. Multiple combination of outcomes were analysed by all the studies, making the data too heterogeneous for a meta-analysis.
  18. The there are Bariatric programs that use it. Blossom Bariatrics in Vegas uses it and it's where I got the idea. I figure if a well credentialed (surgeon of excellence, center of excellence, Bcbs center of excellence, etc) uses it on all patients, it was worth considering.

    Ugh!

Our plan is generous, but we are only allowed stuff like apple sauce or soft canned fruits, added to yogurt starting week 3. Other than that, it's once we reach 75% of our weight loss (or 1 year) then after eating our protein, we can have veggies. If still hungry in the 30 minute window, we can add a serving of fruit. All plans are different! Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app
  20. My surgeon doesn't use it, nor did I ask. I bought it on Amazon, and drank one around 10 the night before. Research says it's out of your stomach in like 2 hours, so when I took my meds the morning of surgery, I took then with a huge gulp of Clearfast. I think it was about 3. 5 hours before surgery. I thought about drinking the whole thing, but I chickened out. I Woke up from surgery in no pain, and had absolutely no nausea. I walked without difficulty and rated my pain level at a 2. Went home after about 30 hours. My worst pain was the gas. But I took a quick trip to the beach the next day, and shopped at Costco. So, I don't know if the Clearfast helped, but it didn't hurt, and my experience seems to match the results that are expected when using it. I would use it again. All of that just slides through your new stomach. You should feel it when you get to purees and dense protein. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Coffee anyone???

We are allowed caffeine as soon as we start getting in 64 Oz of fluid per day. I enjoyed my 1st cup on about day 10. Now, I usually have decaf, but sometimes I get regular if I don't feel like making a pot. BTW, is there such a thing as good decaf? Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app
  24. Does the program have a non surgical weight loss program too? Perhaps they can enroll you in that in the meantime. Also, have you verified your own insurance? Do they really have that requirement or is that just what the surgeon threw out there? Just keep trying until you find a Dr that doesn't leave you feeling hopeless. That is not their job. God bless you! I hope you keep finding success and moving in the right direction. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app
