Scheduled for June 21st. Already adding unflavored whey isolate powder to everything, doesn't taste too bad either, I bought the six star brand at Wal-Mart. First thing I mixed it in was lite strawberry yogurt and it mixed in with just a spoon.

Tomorrow I will have my first appointment with my surgeon. To say that I am excited is an understatement. I made my decision 9 years ago to have the surgery done. I have been over weight my whole life except once when I was going through a very messy divorce. During the 9 years a lot has happened. I became a first time mom at the young age of 53 to not one but 2. No I did not give birth we are adopting. I had a complete hysterectomy at the age of 25 so being a mom was never on my list but I did pray for a child of my own. I know that my age may play a factor, but I want a better quality of life and I want to see my children graduate. My husband is very supportive and wants what is best for my health. I have dealt with fibromyalgia for the last 20 years plus I am watching my fasting blood sugar go up. Diabetes is huge in my family history and it scares me to see it go up.
I had an appointment with another clinic and was informed that I would only qualify for their medical weight loss and not the surgical. I informed them of my choice (my BMI was 39.9) I went back 6 weeks later, I had quit smoking (I smoked for 45 years) and I gained 12 pounds in 5 weeks. The nurse practitioner Add to dictionary informed my that there was people that gained weight just to have surgery. My BMI was now 41.2 and again I stated I was wanting the surgery and she informed me that the surgeon would not do the surgery and I would have to wait another six months to even be considered. I was very upset when I left so I called my insurance company (my benefits had already been confirmed that this was a covered procedure). Did I ever get a surprise, not only did I have someone that would listen, they called the clinic asked if they had a problem explained what had happened and recommended that I look for another clinic and found one for me. Tomorrow is that appointment along with appointments with the physiologist and dietician. By the way the other clinic called this week to inform me of the different surgeries that are now available to me.
Yes I feel like this is a long post but there is a lot on my mind today.

yep! About 50 lbs ago, I started getting offers for senior discounts. Granted, I'm in my late 50's, and it's 55 at some places (but 60 at most places), but still, I always looked young for my age and have never in my life until a few months ago have been offered a senior discount (at places that offer it at 55, I've always had to ask). I now say yes even at the places where it's 60 (even though I'm not 60 yet), since they were rude enough to ask!

Once you are used to smaller portions. Eating some things are going to feel like a feast. 4 ounces of a dense meat, will make you very full and you will be satisfied on much less.
I understand missing eating large amounts, I had a phase like that around 9 months. So I started eating a bag of baby spinach every afternoon. It was okay for like a week, but I got bored with eating large quantities. Just not really necessary. So if you want to eat a lot there are plenty of option of things you can eat large portions of like veggies and stay on plan. Hopefully you will find you just don't want to.
Everyone misses food when they aren't really eating much. Once more of your swelling has gone down and you have more options, these feelings will fade.

2 weeks ago- 2 weeks after surgery- I was visiting my first light house and wanted to climb to the top.... so I started and as I was going up the 222 steps, I could here a lady behind me wheezing, coughing, struggling to make each step- when I turned around to see how she was doing, I saw myself a month earlier and 25 pounds heavier- barely able to fit in the narrow stairwell, red faced and sweating profusely~this surgery is life changing in the most amazing ways and quickly... I probably would not have even tried to go up those steps... I went up all 222 without getting winded~ yes this was the right decision for me... everyday is something new that I couldn't or haven't been able to do in years- wore heels this week and it didn't hurt my knees.... it's the little things- keep a journal- it's an amazing journey!

Sweety, weight loss will not make you love yourself.
It's kinda like I tell my 11 year old. I love YOU, I just don't like what you DID.
It's ok to love yourself yet dislike the fat.
But if you believe they are one and the same, and therefore changing the outside will change the inside... It just doesn't work that way.
Please start a new thread of your own so that the very knowledgeable people on here can help steer you toward good books, etc.

CharlyScott reacted to Alex Brecher in Your Hospital Packing List: What to Bring and Not Bring
Your weight loss surgery is scheduled. You have your pre-op diet instructions and you are preparing your kitchen and house for your recovery. You are scheduling your transportation to the hospital and home. There is a lot to think about, and packing for the hospital is something else to add to the list. When you pack right, you have everything you need without having extras to weigh you down. Keep packing from adding to your stress with this handy list of essentials, nice-to-haves, and absolutely-nots!

    Paperwork and Documentation
Photo ID. Credit card, checkbook, and/or cash. List of contacts. List of questions and notebook to take notes. Insurance card, letter of reimbursement acceptance, or any other paperwork. A list of your medications. Passport or passport card Visa Bring a photo ID and any money you will need. You may not need any if you are going to a local hospital and your insurance covers your surgery. You may need a lot if you are self-pay and payment is due at the time of service. Bring money for any incidentals, such as a taxi ride home or to the airport. Bring any insurance paperwork you have if your insurance is helping to cover your surgery. Also bring a list of contacts such as family and friends that you can call if you need help. Include your doctor on the list. You or your surgeon may need to ask about medical conditions or medications that you are on.
You need to bring the proper documentation if you are going outside the country for your bariatric surgery. At the least, you need a passport or passport card, and to be on the safe side, you should be sure it expires at least 6 months after your scheduled return date. You may need a visa for some countries, although not for Mexico if you are American.
    Clothing
Slippers or socks with non-slip rubber soles or grips. Loose-fitting clothes to wear home. A change of underwear. You will wear the hospital’s gown, but should bring something loose-fitting to wear when you are discharged. Be sure the waist is very loose and the outfit is easy to slip on since you will be in some pain and will not be very agile after surgery! A gown or dress can be best. Non-slip slippers or socks will let you walk around when you can without needing to put on shoes and without risking falling when you are tired and weak.
Do not take expensive clothes, tight fitting clothes, or accessories.
    Toiletries
Toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, soap or body wash, Shampoo, and conditioner. Lip balm and lotion or Vaseline. hair ties. Baby wipes Just take the basics. Keep your teeth clean, and take what you need for a shower, if you have time to take one. You might feel very dry after surgery. Lip balm can keep your lips from getting too chapped, while lotion can keep your skin moisturized. A scrunchie or elastic hair band can keep your hair out of your face if you have long hair, and baby wipes can help you freshen up without much effort.
Go light with your toiletries. Do not bother taking makeup since you will not have time to put it on, and you probably will not have the energy, either!
    Electronics and Entertainment
Phone and charger. Book or eReader with books on it. Crossword puzzles or other paper or electronic games. Movies. Do not forget your charger for each device!
Time will probably pass very quickly in the hospital and you may not have a chance to get to any of your entertainment. You may also be too tired or distracted to focus on it.
    Food and Drink
Tea bags and Water enhancers. Protein powders and shakes. water bottle. Protein Blender Bottle. Your first priority after weight loss surgery will be to stay hydrated. Water can taste funny, so you might want to pack some Water Enhancer powder or flavor drops. Decaffeinated herbal tea bags are easy to pack, too. Just make sure you let the tea cool before you sip it so it does not hurt your surgery scar. A water bottle and protein blender bottle can be useful for the trip home.
You do not need to take any solid food since you will not be eating it for several days to weeks after weight loss surgery.
    For Your Health and Comfort
Pillow. Medications. Ear plugs and face mask. CPAP machine. Gas-X. Throat lozenges. A pillow on your lap can make your ride home much more comfortable. It can also help you sleep better in the hospital if you are fussy. Ask the hospital about which medications to bring, whether you should bring your own CPAP machine, and how they feel about you using GAS-X to combat your post-op flatulence.
    Do Not Bring
Jewelry. Irreplaceable keepsakes, such as photos. A simple rule of thumb is if you do not need it and do not want to lose it, do not take it. This goes for pricey items, such as designer handbags and jewelry, and for anything irreplaceable, such as family photos.

I'm just going to say this. If you go to a Dr that is "the best DS" doctor then he is going to recommend the DS because that is what he does and that is what he likes. Just like a lot of Drs still do RNY because that is what they have the most experience with. There are still Drs that do the band even though there is tons of medical evidence that the have all kinds of complications because at the end of the day they know the band is a lot of residual income for them.
WLS and medicine in general in America if a for profit business. A DS is a lot more profitable than a sleeve,
You seem to have your mind made up between your Dr and seeing your Mom. So, I think you are just having cold feet. If your Dr suggests DS and you want a DS, have a DS. Losing weight sooner rather than later only benefits you.

Today it's considered an extreme surgery, but I can totally see down the line it will be used like braces on crooked teeth. Out of all the bariatric surgeries out there, the vsg is so easy to do with everyday life.
I'm nine days out and can drink normally and feel better than I have in decades. My liver is shrinking, therefore allowing my body to heal itself, which in turn, gives me back my metabolism I haven't seen since my 20's. It's completely understandable to be nervous, but it's one of those things you just have to get past the surgery to reap the benefits, and remember, the uncomfortableness of the surgery is just a few days compared to a lifetime of doing things you may not have been doing due to being overweight.
What's wrong with feeling satisfied all the time, with boundless energy, and still lose 10-20 pounds a month and reclaiming who you used to be? Who wouldn't want that?

And also, I was 'healthy'. Even though I was a 61 BMI, my blood pressure was always 115/62, sugar's 75-80, and my cholesterol is 130. I thought I was healthy until I went through this. My liver showed signs of getting ready to riot. My gallbladder got destroyed by 37, filling with stones, which in turn caused me to have pancreatic attacks I knew nothing about until they opened me up.
This surgery saved my life, weight aside.
Even if you're healthy now, you're just running on borrowed time. There will be a point your body will begin to back pedal out of exhaustion, and your numbers will start climbing.

Patients my not bring minors as their companions. All companions must be responsible adults. Was a claim made that this was confirmed with the Mexican consulate? What is that person's name? We have worked with the Mexican consulate for several years. All of a sudden you're following ALM making statements like "another death". If you were doing your due diligence, you would know that ALM has one of the lowest the lowest complication rate in north America! You've claimed Bariatric pal has had no deaths in 8500 surgeries. Very doubtful. You haven't been doing surgeries in Mex that long. You had lapbad surgery in New York, NY. I know who your surgeons are and their history and reputations. However I'm not going to make any detailed statements. Just by speaking in general most people have enough information to find what they need!
