  1. I weigh every day as soon as I get up in the morning. If it is up an ounce or two or stays the same I realize it can be because of fluid or something else (maybe haven't gone to the bathroom). A small fluctuation does not throw me over the edge. The only thing that matter to me is how I am doing over the long term, not the day to day weight fluctuations

    Best protein shakes and why

My favorite is Premier Protein Banana followed by Vanilla. I don't drink them very often any more but I have one every now and then. 30 grams of protein for 160 calories and 1 gram of sugar.... The banana is a little sweet which satisfies my need for something sweet at times
  3. Clots and pulmonary embolisms are a known complication of any surgery and anytime someone is sedentary. There are many risk factors, one of which is obesity. That is one of the reason they want you up and walking as soon and as much as possible. I am happy to hear you realized something was wrong before too long.

    Protein bars?

I eat an occasional protein bar and have no issues getting them down. I am 4 months out and have been having them for about 2 months
  5. I work for a huge health system so I told my boss I was going out for surgery but did not say what surgery. I submitted by leave of absence paperwork to that department which did indicate the surgery I was having. My return to work letter from the surgeon that I handed in at my job was a generic letter stating I had been under her care and was able to return to work... I still have not told my boss what surgery I had and they are not allowed to ask. Perhaps they can figure it out but I lost 32 pounds in the 3 months waiting for my surgery. I choose who I tell and who I don't tell
  6. MY surgeon actually told me to be on the look out for any rashes or skin irritations. If it happens let my primary doctor know right away.... my Insurance will pay for skin removal for medical reasons. However, it depends on your insurance
  7. Me, too, but about 9 pounds... stay off the scale for a little bit
  8. I gained 9 pounds.... so you are ahead of me... it does come off. My surgeon actually asked me why I weighed myself... stay away from the scale for a few days... it is all the extra fluid you had... I did not get steroids but plenty of IV fluid. Don't despair
  9. Everyone is different, I never had diarrhea or loose bowels

    Can I take Tylenol

yes, depending on how far out you are either liquid or crushed if the sleeve is new
  11. I have known a few who went back in 3 to 4 days but that is not usual... I went back in 3 weeks even though the surgeon said I should/could stay out another week. I probably could have gone back after 2 but I was getting paid and was still very tired so I stayed out for 3.... Don't underestimate how tired you will probably feel. Everyone is different.
  12. On March 13th, a month before my 66th birthday, I had the sleeve done along with a hiatal hernia repair and removal of my gall bladder. I feel great and had no complications, there was minimal pain, no nausea, I have never vomited and was up and around right away. I opted not to take narcotic pain medication so I could be up and walking and I did fine. I had no preexisting comorbidities and my post op lab work if fine with the exception of low iron. Everyone's experience is different but in my opinion age has not as much impact as some people think.... I am down 84 pounds... 32 in the couple of months waiting for the surgery and 52 since March 13 after the surgery. I have also not experienced and stall in weight loss, but I understand it does happen... I would do it again in a heartbeat. Everyone gets nervous, I even second guessed myself right before I went into the operating room. The day after surgery I also said "what did I di to myself"... however that quickly passes and every day it gets a little better
  13. My insurance will pay if I develop a rash that won't go away under the pannis or some other issue. The surgeon told me if it happens to go to my MD right away so it can be documented. I am only about 14 weeks out so it is not necessary yet, I have lost a total of 84 pounds and have more to go

    When did you start driving

I think 3 or 4 days later... I was not on any pain meds

    Is something wrong with me?

Everyone is different, I never had nausea either or any other complications and I am losing just fine. It also took me a week to lose the 9 pounds I gained in the hospital... keep it up!

    Numbness?

I am about 14 weeks out and my belly is still numb but it has lessened.....

Day 2 post op throwing up

even room temperature ginger ale is carbonated..... I don't think you should be drinking carbonated fluid at this time. Have you shaken it or gotten rid of the carbonation some how?
  19. no advice but to say don't get discouraged... it will get better. Take the anti-nausea meds perhaps they will work.

    Stress earing

I was trying to figure out what this post meant and now I see it is a typo... you meant stress eating. If you fall just pick yourself up, dust yourself off and get back on the wagon. We are not perfect and probably never will be... The program has obviously been working for you, don't let a small slip beat you up
  22. I gained about 9 pounds. When I said something to my surgeon at my first post-op visit she asked me why I weighed myself. Anyhow, it does come off. I just think they should tell us ahead of time that it might happen so we aren't shocked when it does.

    What should my goal be?

I often get asked what my goal is and I have not set one either. I will wait and see how I look and feel as I continue to lose. It isn't just about the number for me but how I feel.
  24. Greek yogurt with some Fiber One Cereal every morning for breakfast. I usually have 2 or 3 oz of baked chicken for lunch or dinner. I only cook chicken since that is all my son will eat. I also keep turkey jerky and roasted edemame for emergency snacks. And on occasion I have a protein bar if I really need something extra
  25. That is odd... I used the cpap machine the night after surgery in the hospital... The pulmonologist even visited me in the hospital to ensure I was using it
