Quick update. I am now 14 months post VSG bariatric surgery and I am down 258 lbs. . My high weight was 560.lbs. the day i met the surgeon i was 509 lbs.. surgery day 424 lbs and this morning 249 lbs. Everything has been speeding up for me in the last 2 months . Physical barriers I had for years seem to be crumbling. 3 months ago I could not walk without using a walker. I exercised on a treadmill holding the handles in a death grip. Now I lift weights 5 days a week and I walk 45-60 minutes almost every day ( weather depending ) around my neighborhood, no walker, no problem doing it. I have started using the stairs as well. Something I couldnt do for over a decade. I still use my walker...as a rolling TV trable...I have 82 lbs left to reach my goal of 175 lbs but i probably carry 40 lbs of lose skin and lymphodema on my thighs. It is time to start the process to try and be approved for plastic reconstructive surgery. This is tough as I live in Canada and plastics are not covered by our healthcare system. To buy a plastic surgeon privately for the extent that I would require is around $45,000 . Not an option . I am still dropping around a pound every 24 hours at the moment With no stopping in sight. I am excited to begin this last leg of my losing phase and hopefully get some skin removal approved . Being a chef, having basketball sized Lymphoedema on my thighs make working impossible right now so I am working full time on myself. I am also working on a bariatric cookbook at the request of my surgeon for his future patients. I am on myfitnesspal with my journal open for all to see. I think the accountability is a great thing. Anyone who would like to add me is more than welcome the more the merrier my fitness pal tag is ShrinkingGordon.

When I first made the decision to get surgery, I told my wife, who attended the seminar with me. I asked her not to tell anyone because I was going to keep it quiet/secret. But the more I thought about it, I said screw it and began telling people, i.e. family, co-workers, friends. And to my surprise, everyone has been supportive, not judgmental, they just have lots of questions. Its a personal decision everyone has to make for themselves.

I know I'm just reading this months later but I was sleeved October 2015. Reached goal weight by April 2016 and maintaining so far. I get hungry when I'm not working? Lol I'm a chef, and work around food all day long. So it's a weird situation but I'm burning calories by being on my feet all day long.

There is an article right on the side here from WL Magazine article called WILLPOWER GOOD FOR NOTHING. You might want to read it. Great job checking out everything. I am 3 years out and I still have no physical hunger at all. I had my RNY July 2, 2013 and went below my goal weight in 6 months by 8#'s. I now weigh 125#'s and have maintained this weight for 2 and 1/2 years. Now I know I said I have no physical hunger but...I deal with mind hunger all the time!! Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

Im a twelve week post sleeve and I tell you this in pure honesty - each month I craved anything sweet, you name it I had to have it.
The cravings totally stopped after surgery. I have not had one ounce of chocolate! I was addicted to chocolate! Do not miss it at all!
I have heard that some people that were sweet eaters do go the opposite. I'd much prefer savoury now but I dont go silly with that either.
You do whatever you feel is right for you. Im nearly 41 and had a baby at 40. So glad I did it. I have more energy and Im healthier than I ever have been. Having a bub at 40 made me wake up to myself - I need to be around to watch him grow. We all have our reasons but go with your instincts.
Its a journey and a lifestyle change in many ways. Its hard to explain. I dont regret it.
I wish you all the very best and acknowledge that you are seeking information. Smart girl!

if you've been fat all your life people that KNOW you are gonna know you've had surgery- or think youre sick. and trust me when I tell you if your wife knows, her bff knows and her bff's husband knows.
this lady at my job had the bypass a year ago and thought nobody here knew. the rapid weight loss and forever present Protein Shakes gave her away, though.
the point is nobody cares! we spend our entire lives worried about what people are going to say/think when in reality people are focused on their own issues.
its a personal decision to either tell or not. my closest friends and fam know- i'll tell the rest after its done.....

I did not tell anyone but my spouse 10 years ago. My adult kids were at college
The subject rarely comes up now as I seem " normal" sized.
I will discuss it if someone is serious about wls, but otherwise it is just how I live my life: high protein... exercise... water...
    Repeat for years.
    (Banded 12/06) very thankful
Ps. Don't think I don't stumble often like everyone. I do. Life is hard and good choices can be hard some days.sigh

I did at first. However there are now rumors going around that I am sick because of the weight loss. You are damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Not me, I wanna scream it from the top of the roof. But I just found out my cousin had it 2 years ago and told nearly no one. People just kinda thought she used meds or went on a low carb diet. For the first time in her life she reached healthy weight, but she had been able to go below 200 before with dieting. So everyone thought she just did that again. I was pleasantly surprised when she told me the other day, thinking that explains ALOT I wouldn't worry to much, IF people start asking. Just tell the you are trying out low carb diet or something.

I haven't told a whole lot of people as yet, but that needs to change within the next few days. My husband and kids know and 2 close friends know. Now that I've come through surgery in one piece, I need to start telling people. I don't think it's fair to not tell people the truth who ask how the weight is coming off. We all know how desperate we were to find "the key," to losing weight and telling people that we've cut out soda and bread isn't altogether true. We've cut out far more than soda and bread and not telling the truth is misleading, IMHO. I'm a very private person, so "going public," is hard for me. Nevertheless, I don't want anyone wanting to lose weight to cut out soda and bread and think they're going to lose the way I hope to lose (I had a band to bypass revision, so my loss will be slower than yours). For me, it's about being honest and accountable now that I've had the surgery and am starting on this new part of my life. Just my opinion, but there you have it.
