    Liquid phase

Oh, poor you! There aren't enough hours in the day to get all that in. I still can't get all the recommended fluids in. With the 1/2 hour before and 45 minutes after rule for meals and liquids, it is impossible. Just know that not all programs have the same recommendations and in the end, we all come out just fine. Do your best or you will get discouraged.

Mariernest, are you sure about that? Protein shakes are in a long list of things that are considered fluids. Perhaps you misunderstood?
  3. I understand your frustration. This has been happening to me. I'm almost 5 weeks post op and have been so disappointed in my weight loss. I also have found myself up a pound and slowly down. The dieticians do not prepare us for the types of weight losses and when we eat so little, it is natural to assume that we will lose more weight than we have ever before on previous diets. Not so!! I am not sure of the reason but the body does not respond that way. I am at the point where I take what I get, don't question it. Keep doing the program recommendations. A few days ago, I met a woman who had a bypass 5 years ago and she told me it was months before she had any results in losses. Also, if you did not have a high BMI to start, it will take longer I'm told. Watch the salt content on your liquids.
  4. The latest post to this is one of the best! ever. Thanks so much. I agree with so much of what you commented on. I'm at 5 weeks and am not "allowed" by my team to have any type of protein bars or any flour products whatsoever. And 5 ouncess of chicken would put me in the Emergency Room. I am still at a stall, not using the scale any more because it really makes me crazy. I go for a check up next week and will get weighed at the surgery center. Also, I love to walk and it is my form of exercise. So good for so many reasons. I simply do not have the strength, given the small amounts of food that I eat, to do strenuous exercise and am still afraid of hurting instead of healing. Thanks!
  5. Thank you. I'm just bummed because I thought that by having the surgery I would be freeing myself from the weighing and measuring and all the trappings of former weight loss attempts but I guess that the reality is that this is simply a tool. I will try to be more dligent about measuring my food and see where that takes me. Ugh!!!!!!!
  6. I had my sleeve surgery on Feb 28 and have only lost 12 pounds. I had lost 13 but gained a pound. My nutritionist says it's impossible to "gain" at this stage but I beg to differ with her.I am still on Stage 4 and follow the diet closely. I have incredibly small meals and try to make up for the protein throughout the day. I find that it is virtually impossible to get the recommended amount of fluids in. I simply don't have enough time in my day if I can't eat for 3o minutes after drinking and can't drink for 45 minutes after eating. That means that I have to be consuming most of my fluids after dinner and that is difficult. The idea of drinking all that makes me nauseous. BTW, my weight loss was not influenced by exercising or drinking. On days when I did both faithfully, nothing changed on the scale. The only thing that keeps me sane at this point is the knowledge that at age 69, weight loss is expected to be slower. I only wish I had known this before or I would not have had the surgery and would have given Weight Watchers another try. I only found this out through my own literature search. My team said nothing about it in advance. My hunger never disappeared and I would have had the same problem on WW but could have eaten more and still lost 12 pounds or more in a month.

Do you have a Trader Joe's market? Good creamy soups in boxes. Also, your regular markets should have some nicer gourmet soups , lobster bisque for instance. I bought soup bones from my butcher and made my own broth. Protein shakes count as fluids in those early weeks too.
  8. I am almost one month out from my sleeve procedure. I recognize the fact that as an older person (69), I will lose slower but....I am not losing anything. My total since surgery is 9 pounds and I struggle every day. One day, I gained a whole pound. I put myself back on liquids and tried keeping below 700 calories/day. I drink water til I get nauseous and walk for exercise but nothing happens. If I had known that I wasn't going to lose weight and that I could not eat due to restriction, even when I am hungry, I would NEVER have opted to have this surgery. What a disappointment this has been. I hope others can be more positive. I think this is a better choice for young people who have tried everything else.

    Any More Sixties?

I was sleeved on Feb 28 No complications I'm 69 My weight loss is very slow compared to a lot of others I read about I was very discouraged and finally found some literature which addresses Bariatic surgery in the "elderly (above age 60) patient" The abstract concludes that weight loss is slower in this group At no time pre-op, was I told this. I've done a lot of self-teaching!!

    4 weeks out!

I am 3 weeks out and following all of the "rules" to the letter yet I am not losing weight. I am discourage to say the least. I understand that there are some people who do not lose weight after surgery, that they are the "failures". I am beginning to think that I am one of them and wonder if there are any others out there. I would be happy to become a support person to anyone in that situation. We have to take our losses and move on. Congrats to you on your weight loss!
  14. I was sleeved on the same day. No pain, no problems whatsoever. I did experience some constipation which Miralax resolved and some gnawing "hunger" pangs which Gaviscon helped with. I am following the program to the letter and have BARELY lost five pounds since surgery. You're doing very, very well. Congratulations!

    Right side pain

Try rubbing some Biofreeze Gel onto The area. It's your muscles that are sore.
  16. My surgery was Feb 28 and, having followed all of the rules, my weight loss has been disappointing. I also find that I am not voiding as often as I would have with all of my fluids, pre-surgery. So, yesterday at my follow up visit with my GP, I finally got some encouragement. Here's what she said. "You are still in protection mode with your body. It does not know that you did this on purpose. Your body will hold onto everything it can until it knows it's okay to let go". What a tremendous help that simple statement turned out to be. So now I'm continuing with the plan for Week Two and relaxing. Hope this helps
  17. I had Sleeve surgery one week ago yesterday. I have followed all the rules and have had low calorie choices for my daily intake So far, t have not lost an ounce since my hospital discharge and yes, i have been very mobile and exercising as bestbI can for one week out I took a brisk 45 minute walk 2 days ago and even that did not help Am I weird?

    Hair loss after surgery?

I'm told that Biotin supplements should help
  24. The pangs you are feeling probably are not hunger pains. I'm 1 week post-op and from the day I came home, I experienced same and was so discouraged. I read some forums and found that others whi had the same problem resolved it very simply with liquid Gaviscon, an antacid. I tried it and... instant relief! So, it's acid rumbling around in your stomach, not hunger!! I hope this works as well for you
