    one day out

Hang in there. The first week is rough, but then you're going to feel so much better! Like James said, walking helps with the gas. Nobody said you had to speed walk...but just moving a bit at a time makes a difference.

Hey guys! I'm new here :)

Good luck on your journey, and welcome to the board.

    Needing Your Wisdom

Will keep you in my thoughts. Best of luck, and I hope they are able to find some answers. Not knowing is sometimes more difficult than knowing what you're dealing with.

    Its an ulcer!

So glad they found your problem. I hope it's an easy fix and you're feeling better soon.
  5. James, memory foam here! Could have been part of the getting out of something so squishy. Either way, I'm a roll with the punches kind of girl and try to find the humor where I can. I can imagine the waterbed would have been difficult! I don't know about the newer ones, but my folks had one ages ago when they were roly-poly, squishy.

    Constipation

When Miralax and DulcaEase didn't do a thing, I turned to Smooth Moves tea. Was the only thing that worked. I had a very miserable 17 days prior!!!

    muscle pain

Smiles...if it's bad pain, your surgeon is the one to check in with. IF it's mild pain, could be something as simple as a pulled muscle. I pulled my ribs two weeks after surgery. No relation...sometimes life just happens. But if you're concerned and it's BIG PAIN, I'd call your doctor's office.

    Must-haves post surgery?

Love my Blender Bottles for my protein shakes. Love my heating pad. And most of all, a good sense of humor! Oh...and if you have bathroom issues, dear goodness, it's a journey. It took me FOREVER to go -- Smooth Moves Tea is the only thing that helped when DuraEase/and Miralax did nothing. I have baby spoons as well, to make sure I take tiny bits of food at a time, and forces me to eat slower. So glad I did that.

    Buyers regret

This may or may not help...but when I was doing research prior, I kept seeing this conversation come up and I wanted to remember. I wrote out a note on my desk in case it hit me after surgery... it says "Buyer's remorse until solids - HANG IN THERE"...... thankfully, I'm doing okay, but it was a good reminder to me once I'd gone through it, that those first few weeks, it's common for many ppl to go through those feelings. I'd seen it mentioned so many times, I didn't want to forget. I hope it gets better for you shortly. ((big hugs))

    Food Post WLS Question?

Each doc's office has a different plan. Right now, the phase I'm in, I take a food from column A (protein), and a food from column B (veggie/fruit, etc) Ex: Dinner tonight was one meatball (one ounce), and one ounce of mashed potatoes. Other meals (I follow a chart they gave me)... 2 ounces of cottage cheese/with 2 ounces of unsweetened applesauce....one ounce of tuna/with one ounce of cooked peach/pear....greek yogurt/with etc...you see...one egg/with one ounce mashed potato. There are many variations, but because I trusted my surgeon to open me up and do my surgery, I trust my dietitian with what they recommend. It doesn't make it right or wrong, but is the program I am following. Everybody is different. I had a friend that had her surgery in Paris, and her program was like night and day to what mine is, but it worked for her. I asked about the carbs. My dietitian explained that I'll be eating a rounded diet, and learning things like portion sizes/and understanding each thing can/will be a part of my diet when I follow the recommended guidelines. I'm grateful for that, because I think overall, FOR ME, I'll be more satisfied knowing that food isn't off limits. I will watch for any trigger foods, and I measure or weight to make sure I understand what one ounce is...vs...what i think it is. Best of luck on your journey!

    Progress Pictures

I took them the day before surgery. It was tragic to see them so black/white with no hiding in flowing clothing, etc...Broke my heart, wondering how I got there..(not like I don't know, but you know what I mean)...Either way, I'm on my way to losing, so looking forward to seeing changes. I plan on taking them the first of each month. My surgery was Aug 1st. Can't wait to see your transition! It's so much fun to see the before/after pics that others post. It's so motivating. Good luck on your journey.

Entering new phase in my life

Yeah, you got to see your wife transition, so you also have great motivation on that front. Good luck on your journey!
  23. Burt's Bees/Chapstick....only thing I cared about and was like heaven when I was so dried out.

    GasX strips

I took them to the hospital. I used one. Walking worked better than anything. Of course, I moved at the pace of snail, but each step was still better than the strips. I simply picked them up at like Target or CVS, maybe Walmart? Good luck with your surgery!
  25. One day at a time. The building up to the surgery is a great time to start looking at what you're currently doing and figuring out how to improve your odds of success. I tackled one thing at a time. Kicked soda. Got that out of the way...changed portion sizes. Changed to healthier choices...etc. Baby steps will get you there just as easily as diving in head first. Best of luck.
