    Cosmetic Surgery, Post-Sleeve, and NSAIDs?

It's my understanding that NSAID issues are caused in the stomach by oral ingestion. And honestly, the very short amount of time you would take them probably wouldn't cause issues (but I wouldn't want to test it). But yeah, let them know for sure! I have my surgeon chosen because he specializes in post-bariatric plastics. Maybe see if you have one like that in your area?
  2. Oh, and about saggy skin, I think you'd get it either way. It's not like the sleeve is much slower than the bypass, but you don't lose as much weight in total (statistically speaking). I don't really know if I have any yet because I'm still fat. But the fat isn't as dense anymore for sure.
  3. My surgeon recommends bypass for nearly everyone because he says it's the gold standard. They've been performing it the longest, it has the best track record for success, and you lose the most weight. If you have diabetes it's for sure going to be your better choice. I haven't regretted my choice at all, and (unfortunately) I can have sugar and all sorts of junk without much issue. It's more about keeping portions small, I don't really have any food restrictions. And though it doesn't really matter, I liked the idea of the bypass better because I'm not losing any body parts. They are reconnoitered, but I still have my stomach in there--I don't want it to go away! (love you, stomach)
  4. I'm about 9 months out and this still happens to me. I'm really not sure what it is, but it's weird. I'm starting to sort of intuitively know when it will happen when I see or even think about a food. Sometimes I will see pizza (can be any food though) and feel fine and then have a piece and I'm fine. Other times I get a very faint feeling of queasiness when I see it and every time I've ignored that feeling I've had issues with either vomiting or heavy nausea. It sounds crazy, but I'm really starting to notice a pattern!
  5. No way, you're not nuts. It's nice that people are being nice but I totally get you, it's like everywhere you go you're being scrutinized. I really hate the "you must feel so much better" comment. It makes me feel like I was some kind of disabled monster before. No, I was still doing 5-6 hours of hardcore kickboxing and weight lifting when I was over 300 lbs. I really dislike talking about my feelings to most people and this kind of comment is probing. Then I feel like a jerk when I don't like that they're complimenting me, because I should. Sigh. I get you!

    Intermittent Fasting

Hmm, it's a good point. What calorie range/deficit would you think of as being in a constant state of fasting? I'm usually eating 1200-1400 on my normal days, which granted is lower than a normal diet.

    Intermittent Fasting

I've done IF for years and I love it. My issue of course was I used to be a binge eater, so fasting would trigger my binges. I do it now with no binging problems and it feels amazing. In fact, I'm in the middle of my fast day right now. I usually have about 200-500 calories in fresh juice on my fasting days. And FYI, Dr. Greger (nutritionfacts.org) is coming out with a whole video series on fasting and what the latest, properly-performed, funded, and documented studies show. I personally wouldn't trust anything a personal trainer says about nutrition, they have no education in the field and are often spokespeople for supplements and shakes. Just because you can get cut doing something doesn't mean it's healthy (hello, steroids!). One final thought is some reading I've done questioning the safety of fasting for women. The small studies we're talking about here are all done on men. They're based on male physiology which reacts differently to the stress response of no (or low) caloric intake. I'm really interested to see what the latest research says on this in the nutritionFacts.org videos because I'm a big fasting fan, and as a female, I really don't want to be causing more cortisol-inducing moments in my life!

    DAMMIT!

Just one of us? So are you at your rant and rave quota now?
  9. I loooved mashed potatoes made with veggie broth! I switched off with applesauce so I could have the sweet/savory combo.
  10. My mom told my brother who told his wife who told her whole family. Then my mom told my other brother who told his wife...etc. She knew I didn't want anyone to know. I was so incredibly pissed about it. Then she lied and said she thought I would be fine with it because it's "just your brother." I don't understand why people can't keep their damn mouths shut. I feel your pain. I hope your hubby comes around and apologizes. And good luck with your procedure!

    Whoa! Moments

I lost about 1.5 shoe sizes! So funny that my feet were that fat!
  12. Omg really? Ugh nooo, I thought I was just getting lucky by easily being able to avoid things that would make me vomit now. Wah, thanks for the tip, I will check in with my doc.
  13. It's really interesting, but I didn't vomit at all until about month 6. Now I find myself more sensitive to food than ever, specifically fatty food. I had the same anxiety about barfing but honestly the agony of feeling so sick and then vomiting making me feel SO much better, I've gotten over it. I still don't enjoy it, but I take it as a gift of the surgery, not letting me eat too much fatty food.

    A Strange Change

Oh that's interesting! I had vitamin D deficiency for years and years and it's finally now normal thanks to crazy amounts of supplementation. I wonder if it finally caught up with me!

Vegan foods for days 3-8 after surgery?

Sorry, I forgot to mention I was required to do a protein shake for two weeks since we couldn't eat really more than a tablespoon or two of food. I made my own to begin with mixing hemp protein powder and macadamia milk, but later I got sick of that and bought some vegan Orgain shakes. I totally 100% despise shakes, so I can't say it was good, but I could at least choke it down without vomiting!

Vegan foods for days 3-8 after surgery?

Hi! I was still on liquids at that point, but my second week I did a lot of organic baby food. They have a ton of flavors and you don't have to prep anything! Also it's a great way to get actual nutrition in your body during that time. I also did mashed potatoes made with broth, but I personally hate oatmeal and grits do I didn't do that. So yeah, basically a lot of purees! The week after that I made a batch of tofu scramble with a little bit of Daiya, you might be able to do that if you're able to do oatmeal at this point. Have you ever tried to make your own pudding? This would have been too rich for me at that point, but check it out--it might work for you! http://ohsheglows.com/2015/02/02/raw-chocolate-pudding-vegan-no-added-sugar/

    A Strange Change

Vagus nerve! I know three other people who got RNY and we all have runny noses now. I get the hiccups sometimes, but I always have to have a box of tissues while I eat, haha.

    A Strange Change

My hair that fell out is growing back Irish red!! I'm naturally a medium brunette. It's bizarre!
  19. Ooh, I've never seen those bars! Awesome, and they don't have any weird ingredients either. They're $2.50 each it looks like and that's way cheaper than the ones I've been getting with sugar added (ProBars are $3.75 each). Thanks for the info!
  20. Awesome! So glad to see a guy vegan bodybuilder on here! My hubby is just starting to get into bodybuilding and eats similarly as you, though he's a few inches shorter and about 30 pounds lighter. He's never been a big guy, so it's a change for him to eat all that food! That's super low carbs! What protein bars and shakes do you use? He's doing no added sugar, so I'm trying to find a good healthy protein bar for him. Not sure if that exists without sugar though! But for me, I'm a small-framed 5'5" woman so I will just dream about being able to eat 2700 calories a day!
  21. This is a typical day for me. I don't have any food volume/weight/type restrictions from my surgeon, but I am vegan. They request we get 30g of protein a day and I get that without even thinking about it. I'm working on having more whole foods, but I've been kind of lazy. But hey, it seems to be working for me!

    Stalls are such jerks!

Oh I just realized you're 8 weeks out! I thought you meant you were in a stall for 8.5 weeks! This definitely happened to me around that time too. Once you're eating real food you'll have better movement on the scale. Since you're already working out and eating so little, your body is probably holding on for dear life at this point! I was allowed to eat any food at 7 weeks, is real food coming for you soon?

    Stalls are such jerks!

Are you tracking your food? I recently have been much more tight about tracking and measuring my food. I was getting a little lax by grabbing a handful of this here and there or not measuring condiments, etc. The scale is going down super fast now!

    Nausea during PMS

I am about 8 months out and my PMS is just crazy. I have depression and mood swings and nausea as well. I'm on the pill and have been the whole time, so I'm not sure if maybe I need a new Rx now that I'm down 114 pounds or what. But yeah it seems to be really common to have our hormones go totally out of whack after this surgery. My poor husband! I will say it seems to have shifted over the whole time. I don't feel very sick anymore, but I do feel more depressed during that time. So maybe just monitor it and see your GYN in a few months if it doesn't ease up!
  25. Hi all! So my hair is finally starting to grow back after months of it getting very thin. I'm a natural mousey brunette but have dyed black for years. I was putting my makeup on today and noticed my growing-in roots are legit RED now! I've never had red hair (naturally). Has this happened to any of you? It's so weird!
