  1. Thanks ya'll! We will be leaving around 6:00 tonight. My daughter and grandson left an hour or so ago to get the room. I am sooooo excited. Not nervous anymore. Went to church this morning and was prayed for there by all. I feel better! I will post when I get home Wednesday or have my daughter post. I need to go to my profile and change my email address cause I have a new one now. See ya'll on the losing side!

  2. Oh, my god! I would have told that doctor to have my medical records ready in one hour and I would be by to pick them up. Most surgeons will accept all tests you have already gone through! Don't let that A-hole do this to you. Be there first thing Monday morning and demand your records and threaten them with a lawsuit if they dawdle.

  3. Since I started out here as a potential lapbander I thought I would share with ya'll. I have a date for surgery! 8/7/06! I am having RNY just because I figure this is my only shot at weight loss , being a Medicare patient and figuring they wouldn't go for a revision if the band didn't work for me and knowing myself I am afraid I would have a problem with the idea of the port and having to drive 90 miles for a fill or unfill...just weighing all the pros and cons I decided on the RNY. I am nervous and excited. I will have my EGD on 7/20 and then the surgery on 8/7. Can you say YAAAAAY? :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

  4. I found my surgeon in Shreveport LA. Dr. George Merriman. Although I am having RNY he also does lapband surgery and if I understood him when I saw him 5/10 he said "from now on I am only going to do the lapband on medicare patients". I took that to mean that he would no longer do RNY on Medicare patient's. He said I would still be able to get the RNY. I wish I had asked him why he has made that decision but didn't.

  5. I forgot to tell y'all that my doctor doesn't require a preop liquid diet...I can eat up until midnight the night before surgery, and I don't have to have an enema! Yaaaay. And, he uses no NG tubes or drains at all. He did say he would like for me to try to lose 8 to 10 pounds before surgery to shrink the liver. I also found out that the hospital I will use only has private rooms...Yaay! I was worried being a Medicare patient that I would have to have a semi-private...but they have no semi-private rooms!

  6. LOL. I went to the seminar on 4/28...TODAY I HAD MY FIRST CONSULT! It went great. I can get the surgery. The doctor was great, very friendly, said he wanted to know if I was prepared....and be careful what you wish cause you will get it! LOL. He said after talking to me, asking me a few questions like why I wanted surgery, what I expected from it, etc. that he could tell I had done my homework and that I was intelligent enough to know what I was doing so he was going to send me on to the next step! I have to have lab work, EKG, gallbladder ultrasound, chest x-ray...all of which can be done at my PCPs office. Then I need to have a psyche eval, nutritionist eval (by phone...I can record it!), and an EGD. Then I get my preop and a surgery date! I am so excited! They said they were very very please that I was so well prepared with a letter of referral from the PCP AND my Rheumy, and had all my medical records in hand with dates, weights and diagnoses highlighted! I am good to go. I will keep ya'll posted!

  7. Kim, you aren't intruding at all. I chose RNY because I am afraid I wouldn't be able to tolerate the band (foreign object fixation). I also would have to drive 90 miles one way for fills. My good friend had RNY two years ago and she said she couldn't understand why I would want to have to go back and forth getting fills, possibly having an erosion or a slip and maybe not even losing all the weight I need to lose. After I thought about it, I realized that this is probably my only shot at getting something done because of being Medicare and I don't think Medicare would pay for a revision if lap band didn't work for me. I know about 8 others personally who have had RNY and say they would do it again in a heartbeat. I know it was a BIG decision to make but I have prayed and thought and researched and read online profiles and opinions and I know I would be devastated if I went with lapband and it didn't work for me. ..and then couldn't get a revision and at my age (61) I don't want to have to go under the knife anymore than absolutely necessary. My husband wasn't too keen on the RNY until I showed him all the statistics and risks of both procedures...and he hasn't questioned my judgement since. He knows I am no dummy, worked in the medical field for 35 years and am well aware of the risks and possible complications.

  8. 3loves...it wasn't your misunderstanding..it was mine! I note that MVPO said she has a "preop" appointment...mine is a "first consult" appointment! My bad! Guess I am just too excited! Thanks for encouraging me to stay here. This really is home to me.

  9. I meant to mention the straps being to far out when I started this thread. I am constantly pulling my straps up and I hate the padded straps only because they show at the neckline because whoever the dumb butt is that designs plus size clothes thinks we all have super humongous necks...so the neck holes are usually way too big. Thanks y'all for all the suggestions on comfy bras. NurseTeresa, I will check out the justmysize...doesn't Walmart sell them? I will also check out the Curvation bras at Walmart! Thanks for that tip! I would LOVE a bra that supports without underwires! And, someone else mentioned large cupped and large sized bras having too much material in them...AMEN! I can't stand that! If I were an E cup or even an DD or DDD or larger I would definitely have a reduction. My neighbor had one last year and she is sooooo happy.

  10. Iknow Gina, I must have had a temporary mental breakdown when I threw my money away on two of 'em! Lets see...thats $144 plus tax. Makes me sick to think about it. I guess I could sell 'em on ebay to recoup a little money...only wore one of them twice and the other one once.
