  1. I have searched the whole site for the answer to my question. Here it is: I will have to have the sleep study, but reading all the posts about people's experiences with it...I am scared I won't be able to do it. I am claustrophobic...I cannot stand anything over my nose...I have the worst kind of panic attack. Is anyone else claustrophobic like me? I am afraid I will make the biggest fool of myself and they won't be able to get a good reading. Do they absolutely have to stick something up your nose? If they do, and if I have to have this, they will have to sedate me heavily. Guess I can talk to my doctors about it when I see them on 4/6. Yep, I'm a wussy bigtime when it comes to my nose. And, if they do have to stick something up it...when it gets stopped up because of Afrin addiction (believe me it will)...no air will be getting through no matter how hard that cpap works.
  2. Thanks y'all. Well, I am not obsessing about the sleep study now. I just found out I can't have my surgery at the hospital of my choice as it is not a Center of Excellence. I have Medicare and will have to find a surgeon who does the surgery at a Center of Excellence! I live almost in Podunk Hollow...there are at the time no Centers of Excellence in Arkansas which surprises me since Little Rock has so many wonderful doctors and hospitals. Anyway, I stayed up until 2:00 a.m. this morning researching Centers of Excellence that are not more than 4 hours from me. Sigh

Light at the end of the tunnel....

Dody, I found a list of them by googling the American Association of Bariatic Surgeons. Now I am off to find a hospital (Center of Excellence) that isn't too far from me that accepts medicare patients and their doctors do lap bands! If it isn't one thing, its 10!

Light at the end of the tunnel....

How do you find out if a hospital is a Center of Excellence?
  5. Thanks ya'll. I will ask for something to calm me down. I think I can do it and hopefully since I am having to travel 90 miles from home they will do mine all in one night.
  6. Yes Kellie, what everyone else said here!
  7. Thanks y'all! I am feeling better about it. I am almost positive I don't have sleep apnea because I am not sleepy during the day, wake up alert. My husband says I do snore softly but he has never noticed me strop breathing. I think the reason I snore is because I am addicted to the Afrin nosespray and when I "need a fix" I wake up with my mouth feeling like cardboard, my tongue dry as the desert and like a dried out sunflower. I get a sip of water, spray my nose and go right back to sleep. Getting off the Afrin is my next big project sometime this summer. My rheumy has offered to send me to a specialist who helped one of her other patients get off it. Maybe by this time next year I won't be such a "high maintenance woman" as my husband lovingly calls me! LOL.

    Is there anyone from Louisiana?

Hi! Did you check the Louisiana board? Down at the bottom of the page on the right look for "Choose a Forum" click it and you will see all the forums for each state.
  9. Vinesqueen and PhotoNut, thank you. I'm not the least worried about anything but something up or over my nose. I can't even use the mask at the dentist for gas....i'd rather have the shots! When I had my first asthma attack and was about to die (so I thought)at the hospital....I refused the mask in favor of smoking the pipe with the meds in it. I am a big wus, I know. I am sure I will be ok, but I still don't like to think about something on my nose. Not too thrilled about something around my head either...even if it is tiny. When I am taking my shirts off over my head and my pierced earrings get hung...I'll pull my ears off just to get that thing off my head. I know...I am pitiful!

    worried about my best friend

Jack, does that mean you like a little "toke" every now and then....or does that mean you like smoothies and yogurt. LOL.

  14. I have this problem now and I am not banded. I use Secret but I have to wash and reapply a couple times a day. I may try some of the ones y'all have suggested and see if one of those helps. I also sweat up under my boobs and I apply deodorant there too...works pretty good. I use alot of Shower to Shower powder, lol.

    3 months gone

Congrats Joe! I know you are proud...keep up the good work!
  16. Take only enough cash to pay the cab driver to and from the hospital. If you must take your cell phone with you,the last time you use it before surgery lock it...do you know how to lock it?(Mine can be locked but I don't know how! lol) Wear no jewelry, not even a watch..you can look at clocks on the wall to see what time it is. Ask the nurses to lock up your cab money for the trip home and tell 'em it had better be there or the y'll have to pay your cab fare home! LOL. Social Services at the hospital should be able to help you get home if you have no one else to help you.

Leener, I don't think you were being melodramatic at all! I think many of us don't realize how close we are to meeting our maker every single day and we should be ready at any time to stand before Him! Congratulations and hang in there! I hope to join all y'all bandsters soon! And, like you I am nervous but determined!

    April 2006 Bandits

I've decided I am not reading any more erosion posts....it just upsets me and makes me nervous. There is still a small percentage of erosions in this forum.....at least from what I can tell. So...from now until after surgery...NO MORE EROSION STORY READING! LOL.

    Update: Future Bandster In Saudi

Yes, I hope everything goes quickly and you start losing that weight! Hope your toenail gets better! My son had to have both his big toenails removed when he was about 15. He put on tennis shoes and played basketball that night!
  22. GeezerSue, I didn't see that. Thanks!
  23. That site for comparison of different types looks to me that it was compiled by a group of doctors who are promoting the duodenal switch...thus kinda biased in my opinion against the other types of WLS.

    Any brain surgeons around?

Oh what a riot! Man, that guy is limber isn't he? LOL. And to think....my doctor has a sense of humor! It can't get any better than that! At least I am claiming Dr. Hekier as my doctor....I have an appointment to see him on 4/3/06! Yaaay!
