  1. I don't even cut them that small. They're smaller bites than I used to take, but definitely not dime sized.

    Starting soft foods tomorrow

Chew, chew, chew. More than you ever have before. Also, eating the eggs with a little mild salsa has helped me--both with getting eggs down, and adding some nice flavor

    Nightmares.

It happened to me very early out. I had a dream once, probably 2-3 weeks after surgery wherein I ate an entire pizza. I couldn't have eaten more than three slices pre-op! So, needless to say, very jarring. But these dreams pass as our bodies and minds adjust. Good luck

Number one piece of advice always: call your surgeon with medical questions. That being said, I felt incision pains and wore my abdominal binder for several weeks after my surgery. Good luck

    Cooking for One

Hey guys! I recently moved to start a graduate program and I am now busier than ever and living alone. Needless to say, cooking has become a really daunting task. Even when I do have time for cooking, I have trouble figuring out how to cook for one person who eats half or less of what an average person eats. Any guidance from veterans or people in a similar situation?

Wow, I got so much wonderful feedback! Thanks to all of you for your suggestions
  7. I disagree that you don't look any different! A really good hourglass is coming in there. I definitely measure by how my clothes fit. I can not lose an ounce for two weeks, but I feel my clothes magically start to loosen during that stall.

    Not exactly sure

I don't think that's too much. If it's well chewed and you're not feeling uncomfortably full, it sounds like you'll have no trouble getting that protein goal met. I'm at about 19 weeks and I can probably eat 3 ounces of chicken on a good day. Of course, it all depends on what other nutritional choices you're making throughout the day.

    Sugar free candy

I really like the sugar free tropical popsicles. The standard ones get boring for me but the tropical flavors are nice.
  10. I ate so much refried beans and mashed potatoes mixed with unflavored protein powder. Enough that I haven't eaten either once since the pureed stage. Also, eggface ricotta bake is suitable for purees; see this post for the recipe and more ideas: http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2007/08/pureed-foods.html

    Cooking Again!

It's amazing--after spending so much time not eating real food at all, we crave the healthy food with a voracity we never had before enjoy, sounds yummy!

1 week post op dreaming about food

I once dreamed about eating a whole pizza. I could only fit 2, max 3 slices of pizza BEFORE surgery! I was freaked out in the dream because I was aware I'd had surgery but I just kept eating! It was weird. But that was a while ago, and thankfully doesn't happen in real life

I like premier protein, I also sometimes like syntrax nectar as a sort of juicy, fruity alternative to the thick and creamy various ice cream style flavors.

    Hair loss

I had a 2/9 surgery and I'm in the hair loss phase too. Comes with losing a lot of weight very quickly. I'm lucky enough to have very thick hair that I imagine won't show too much of the loss (or at least I hope!) but it still feels disconcerting to see the clumps come out in the shower. Fortunately, as has been said, it should stop in a few months
  16. I was in the hospital four days too for pretty much the exact same reason. It hurt far too much to drink the water I would need to stay hydrated off IVs. But after I went home, things went much better and I was able to keep myself from returning for dehydration.
  17. Wearing cute clothes is so important to me! I can wear a few cuter things now, but there's still so much I have to look forward to!
  18. Hey guys. I got my 3 month blood work back the other day and aside from vitamin A deficiency, I also had a low level of prealbumin. My NUT thought it was explained by low protein intake, but after she told me to get at least 60 grams a day, I told her I routinely get 80 grams a day, and she was stumped. She said not to worry, because the level wasn't super low, but I wanted to see if anyone here had any insight! I certainly don't want to be malnourishing my body, but I couldn't eat any more protein if I tried! Does anything else cause this low level?

"Ask your doctor" is the correct advice for you. For me, personally, I still have trouble taking standard size pills at nearly 4 months post op, but I can do it, both tolerance wise and with the advisement of my surgeon.

    First real walk

Don't worry! You've just had major surgery and your body is recovering from the trauma. Plus, you're eating next to nothing right now, so you've got rather little fuel to go on. It will get easier, and it will happen soon if you keep at the walking and do just a little bit more every time. I certainly didn't go far a week postop! Don't be discouraged

I also recently passed my first 100 days...you look great and it sounds like you're feeling great, keep at it!

    When to worry about carbs?

Personally, I think we're consuming so little at the full liquid stage that carbs and fat aren't really worth counting. Protein, fluid and vitamins are the only things worth worrying about at this stage. (just my opinion!) When you get to solids, you definitely want to be careful with the carbs--if for no other reason than if you fill up on carbs, you won't have enough room to get the protein you need! And much later in the process, carb-heavy things don't tend to keep you full as long, which can sabotage the action of the tiny stomach. As for the vitamins, I think you should track them if tracking them holds you more accountable for taking them! They're super important to avoid deficiencies Just worry about getting those fluids, vitamins, and protein! And as you said, you can definitely ask your team their advice when you go for your checkup.
  23. I liked fat free refried beans as a puree. Thinned out with broth at first, but towards the end of the stage I had no problem eating them as is. Also, Eggface Ricotta Bake is a favorite for puree stage. That and more ideas can be found here: http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2007/08/pureed-foods.html Good luck!

    Barium Swallow

Can't speak from experience, but I believe I've seen a lot of people on here having their hiatal hernia fixed at the time of sleeve surgery
  25. I'll start with the good news! I went into Dress Barn the other day and the store is basically separated by "regular sizes" on the left and "plus sizes" on the right. For the first time in years, I didn't have to stay on the right side! I'm pretty sure I still could have fit into the smaller stuff in the plus sized section, but being able to fit into the "regular sizes" was too darn crazy for me to walk away from! Bad news is I haven't lost an ounce in the last couple of weeks. I consistently wonder if my calorie intake is too low (between 700-800, I'm 3.5 months post-op) but every time I try to see if I can increase it, I find I simply can't ingest any more food. The only thing I can think of to have more calories in the same volume of intake would be to up the fat content, but my NUT has me scared away from eating over 30 g of that a day. I'm frightened of carbs all on my own, so that never goes over 50 g (some will still say that's too high, I know.) I really should up the exercise a bit, but I doubt that's the main contributing factor--it's not like I've been sitting around doing nothing! Sigh, I wish I had more guidance, since they only seemed to give me any in the liquid and smushie stages. I just hope this snaps soon. Oh well, at least I have 3 cute new dresses, a cute new shirt, and cute new black skinny jeans!
