    Desperately need help

You should contact your surgeons office. They are probably best equipped to deal with this issue. I sometimes have pain, especially at night which wakes me from sleep, in my upper stomach area that radiates to under my ribs. It's not related to being in a certain position. Mine doesn't usually last more than several minutes, but while it's happening it's very painful. My docs PA thinks it is probably gas pain. I take a couple chewable Gas-X tabs when it happens, and it feels like it helps. I also wonder if some of the issue is related to your constipation. Discuss this with your doc too, maybe some dietary adjustments can help.

Do you feel you did the right thing

No regrets, and I agree with what everyone above said. I'm almost 8 months out now, and what you're feeling now will change for the better. Our bodies go through so many changes immediately post op it can really throw things off, but it adjusts, and you get used to the new normal.

    I’m HUNGRY

Introversion beat me to it, I was going to ask how you are getting all your protein. If you eat more protein, you'll be less hungry.

    Weight gain

Sorry. It's a process, don't beat yourself up, use it as motivation to get on the right track. What did your dietician say?

    What's for lunch today?

Leftover home made cashew chicken, I'll post a pic of when I made it for dinner because lunch is long gone! I put it over riced cauliflower and it's AMAZING. I'm making low carb stew for dinner. Snow day: Sitting here in my pajamas, watching netflix and shopping online all day. I can't get motivated to do anything and I have been wanting to eat all day. Munching on green pepper to satisfy the need to crunch something.

How do you stop weight gain

Are you keeping a food journal? If not, start logging your intake, it's easy to underestimate how much we're actually eating, either in portion size or eating small amounts through the day that add up. Are you getting enough water, enough sleep? Go ahead and call your docs office, you may end up talking to someone else in the office that is nice and more helpful. (Fingers crossed!)
  8. Ask lots of questions. I think it's normal to have concerns and second thoughts. Discuss it with your doc and make sure the research you are doing is from legitimate sources.
  9. Just wondering how everyone chose their goal weight. For now mine is 197, because that is the number that makes me "overweight" instead of "obese" on the BMI scale. However, I hope to lose more than that. When I was younger I typically weighed around 165, which back then was a size 11/12 on me. Not sure if I dare make a goal smaller than that, it doesn't feel like it can become a reality. But then I haven't been under 200 in 18 years, and I see that number getting closer and closer, so I remain hopeful!

    Medical Leave from Work

If you can afford it taking the extra time is worth it. I chose to take 4 weeks off so I could adjust and develop new habits. I was really glad I did, and I actually would have liked to stay home a week or two longer. I did fine going back when I did but got tired easily.

    Non Scale Victories

I parked in a tight parking space and was still able to squeeze out of my door, without touching the car next to me. In the past I would not have been able to get out of my car.

Joining the “slow food” movement - your stories

I don't think I did protein bars until I was 2-3 months out. I just didn't think about them until my nutritionist gave me a list of the ones with less sugar and carbs that would be good. Even now, it depends on the day. Sometimes I can eat a bar in 20 minutes, sometimes it takes me a few hours. A friend of mine cuts hers into tiny bite size pieces and puts them in a zip lock, then just takes one piece at a time so she doesn't get overly full. She's about 2 - 3 months out. One thing I did in the beginning to slow down was pour my protein shake into a shot glass (1oz) and drink from that. If you do 1oz every 10 min that's 6oz per hr.

Joining the “slow food” movement - your stories

You can do it. You will find what works best for you and your schedule, and if you mess up, don't beat yourself up about it, take it as a learning experience and figure out what to do differently next time. Try to find small containers to pack snacks in to take with you. I do yogurt, cottage cheese, almonds, protein bars, shakes, and Quest brand chips.

Joining the “slow food” movement - your stories

If I let myself get really hungry, I have a hard time slowing down when I do eat and then I either get sick or feel sick. I try to eat small snacks between meals so I don't become famished. It's hard to remember when I get busy though. It's all a learning process, and one of the things I need to learn to do better is stop being so busy all the time and take time to take care of myself.

    Hospital discharge today!

Usually you have to build up to getting the full amount. The first couple of weeks it was rare for me to get near my protein goal because I just couldn't fit that much in.
  18. Concentrate on staying hydrated while you wait to hear back from your surgeon. I think most of the protein drinks/shakes use whey as the protein source. Have you been able to try a different brand? Hopefully your surgeon will get back to you soon.

    Hospital discharge today!

Glad it went well! The gas and aroma does get better with time. I remember those early days, even my dog didn't want to be around me!

    Embarrassing BM changes (TMI)

It's usually a constant battle against constipation for me, but the past several weeks I think I've entered the "Never trust a fart" phase. I've had diarrhea for most of the past few weeks and it's awful. It's usually only in the morning and tapers off by the afternoon. I'm glad to hear that it's common and short-lived! I hate having to use the bathroom at work!

    TMI but need help

    Hope you are doing ok.

    Post-Op medications to avoid?

Agree with this emphatically. It could be dangerous for you to take it due to risk of dehydration and/or electrolyte imbalance, so please call your doctor and ask.

    5 Days post-op

I felt like adding some soy milk to my soup broth helped, it is a little thicker than regular milk and makes the soup have a creamy texture. You may just want something to chew, you can try a sugar free popsicle.

Anxiety meds before weight loss surgery?

It's possible your doctor will let you take your anxiety medication on the day of with just a sip of water if it's necessary, or he can order something to have on hand for you in pre-op if you need it.
