I bought a small jar of gravy just for that purpose. Nothing fancy. I hope it makes it easier for you. [emoji4] Sent from my SM-G920T using BariatricPal mobile app

Have you tried moistening the meat with gravy? My dietician says it should be as soft as possible and that a little bit of gravy helps. Or mayo if you're having difficulty with tuna. Drier meat is harder to digest at first. Sent from my SM-G920T using BariatricPal mobile app
  5. That's odd the other doctor cleared you for the sleeve given your reflux issues. My endoscopy confirmed mine, as well as the hernia. I think you'll do well with RNY. From what I've heard, diabetes clears up within a couple of days with bypass. That alone would have been motivation enough for me but I didn't have any comorbidities. I had the surgery to prevent it, as it runs on both sides of my family. As for the horror stories, I'd rather take the chance to get healthy than to die without even trying. I think everything will turn out for you just fine! [emoji4] I'll be happy to keep you updated! So far, my recovery has been pretty easy, especially compared to others. My pain level hasn't been more than a 5, and that was today because I slept on my side the wrong way. [emoji51] Otherwise, it averages a 3. I haven't had any nausea. I walk 2-3 times a day. Walking has helped with gas a lot. I switch to pureed foods this coming Tuesday. I'll keep you posted on what I can and can't tolerate. Sent from my SM-G920T using BariatricPal mobile app
  6. It seems like you're all set for your revision. I just wanted to share why I eventually opted for RNY over the sleeve. I initially really, really wanted the sleeve. I suffered from mild to moderate GERD with a hiatal hernia. My doctor strongly advised against the sleeve because of this. He said patients with GERD fare much better with the bypass in the long run, and that those who get sleeved usually have to have the revision done within five years. This occurs even after their GERD issues seemingly disappear. You didn't mention if you have a hiatal hernia, but I did. He also said that while the hernia could be repaired if I got sleeved, it would also likely reoccur within five years. The reason why bypass works so much better compared to the sleeve is because your small intestines anchors the new stomach pouch, preventing it from slipping back up through the diaphragm and causing acid reflux. When my approval went through, it was for the sleeve. Ultimately, I didn't want to risk having a revision in a few years. I wanted this to be one and done. I asked about just repairing the hernia separately later on if I got sleeved and was told hiatal hernia surgery itself is a much more major surgery with greater complications and risks than any weight loss surgery. My surgeon also pointed out that even those who get sleeved still have to take vitamins for the rest of their lives, so there really isn't much difference. I also want to lose as much weight as possible to allow for natural and reasonable weight gain that comes with aging. Bypass weight loss gives you more wiggle room to work with. So I changed my mind and had my paperwork resubmitted for RNY. I didn't have to meet any additional or separate requirements; it was only the matter of updating the insurance code. I'm now 4 days post-op and I don't regret my decision at all.
  7. 4th day post-op and still feeling pretty good! Admittedly, I'm getting a little bored with clear liquids (except for popsicles) and can't wait to switch to pureed foods and full liquids on Tuesday.

hey there...great to hear you're doing well. Have you been able to get all of your fluid in and how's your pain level?

  8. My nephew was born in 2013. At the time, it didn't occur to me but I'd like to live to see him grow up, especially since I'm on the fence about having kids of my own. My estranged father died of a heart attack in April 2014. He was in his mid-50s. On the way back from his funeral, I received a call stating a close friend had also died. He was in his mid-40s. I'll be 36 in a few months but in the past couple of years, I've started to feel older than my age. My joints ache in ways that I know they shouldn't in my 30s. I've never been on a plane. Mostly (80%) due to fear of flying. The other 20% is fear of being charged for two seats or having to use a seat belt extender. I would feel horrible spilling over into someone else's seat space. I would love to travel and be able to do all of the things I'd like to do without being out of breath and out of shape. I haven't ridden amusement park rides since high school. Minor motivation, but motivation all the same. I'm tired of paying more for larger sizes that aren't nearly as cute nor flattering as smaller clothes. For some reason, the fashion industry thinks obese people look great in hideous prints. And while plus-sized fashion is starting to come around, it would be nice to wear cute clothes and get rid of my wardrobe of blacks, grays, and blues. Finally, I want to prevent (or at the very least delay) diabetes. It runs on both sides of my family. My mother has it as does her mother. I fear spending the rest of my life on medication for something that is mostly preventable.
  9. Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that! My only issue was having a hiatal hernia, which my surgeon repaired during my RNY. I've never heard of your condition before. I'm assuming because your surgery is still a go, they can either work around it or maybe even try to repair it. Wishing you the best of luck! Pre op Liquid Diet Shakes

Ah okay. I missed that part...you did mention their brand. I ordered the sample pack from Amazon but haven't tried them yet because I couldn't find anything that says if it's mixed with water, it's clear enough for my clear liquids phase. I've been saving them for my full liquids/pureed stage next Tuesday. They had me at fuzzy navel. [emoji23][emoji23] I didn't even notice cappuccino was one of the options! Puréed foods

A friend had her RNY a year ago next month. She's reassured me that the taste for things we like to eat will slowly but surely come back. [emoji4] We'll try to stick it out and enjoy our favorites again (in moderation, of course). I'm sorry you can't take Lactaid to help. I wonder if you could grind it up in your food too? Puréed foods

You're so right! Even pre-op diets have varied! My pre-op wasn't all liquid like some others. It's too bad you're lactose intolerant. Have you asked your doctor if there's anything like a supplement you can take to make dairy more tolerable? If not, no worries. I'm sure they've given you plenty of other options. I'm personally looking forward to pureed foods starting Tuesday because I made Eggface's ricotta bake and froze it. I just hope I can tolerate it. That and scrambled eggs. I've heard so many haven't tolerated scrambled very well but they can do other forms of egg. I wonder why that is? Sent from my SM-G920T using BariatricPal mobile app

    Puréed foods

My post- op diet has me starting pureed foods (as tolerated, of course) on day eight as well. Each doctor and dietician has different requirements for their patients. I'm only on clear liquids this week, then switching to pureed foods and full liquids next Tuesday. Yogurt is already pureed consistency and therefore on my list for pureed week, and protein shakes are considered full liquids. Sent from my SM-G920T using BariatricPal mobile app

    One Last Real Meal?

My surgery was on the 27th. I had two Dungeness crab clusters but I wasn't on an all liquid diet so it was allowed. It was totally worth it. Post-op, I asked my doctor how did my liver look and he said it was normal. No regrets. I was determined my last meal would be something I'd enjoy. Since seafood is my favorite, the crabs were worth it and to no ill effect. Sent from my SM-G920T using BariatricPal mobile app

    Complications - My RNY Story

My heart goes out to you! The whole time I was reading your story, all I could think was "OMG"...I can't even begin to imagine how much you suffered. I'm glad you're doing so much better now and I hope you continue to get better still! Sent from my SM-G920T using BariatricPal mobile app

    Day 1 post op

The day of surgery, I was told to drink one of those little plastic medicine cups each hour, then bump up to two of those cups later that night. I haven't had any difficulty with maintaining fluids and keeping everything down so far has been a breeze. I guess because I was doing so well (no nausea, walking the hospital floor a lot, no complications) they gave me the green light to go home the next morning. It's typical at my hospital to release patients the next day if there are no complications.

    Day 1 post op

Yes, I had RNY. I felt pretty good the first day. The pain is probably 3 out of 10, 4 out of 10 tops. The absolute worst part so far was when the nurse removed the drain. I screamed and cried during that part. Otherwise, I still feel pretty good! I haven't experienced any nausea yet! I stay on top of my pain meds and walk, walk, walk. It helps a lot with the gas. So far, no regrets!

    Day 1 post op

It's a mental thing lol. I feel up to leaving and I have good support at home. I just like the "pampering" the nurses provide. My surgeon just came in while I was posting this and gave me the okay for discharge. [emoji4]

    Day 1 post op

Congratulations! Mine was yesterday too! I agree, walking has helped with the gas. I kind of wish they were keeping me another day but they're releasing me this morning because I've been managing things so well. The dry mouth is horrible but constantly sipping and eating ice has helped. Best of luck to you on your recovery!
  21. My surgery (bypass) was yesterday the 27th. My surgeon said everything went well. He also repaired my hiatal hernia. Aside from the gas I was inflated with, I haven't had a lot of pain, just discomfort (I'd say 3 on a scale of 10). I took a nice long walk yesterday to help. I've been sipping icy cold water, which I know some have had problems with. Later this morning, I'm being discharged. Then the real fun begins. [emoji4]

    Surgery was a success!

Thank you! I just wanted to keep everyone updated. I've been trying really hard to follow instructions and it's made it easy so far. Hopefully the next few days and weeks at home are as easy as my hospital stay. The nurses have said that since I haven't had an nausea, that's a really good sign. Most of their patients do and keeping water down has been a struggle. I'm amused how I've seen commercials for food and while in my head, it looks delicious, I'm not hungry at all. [emoji4] It's crazy! But I know this will all be worth it!
  23. And I'm just now seeing your date was the 19th lol. Suffice it to say you made it. [emoji4]
  24. It's completely normal. It's your body adjusting to withdrawing from carbs (and caffeine, if you were into that). I felt exactly the same way. You should be okay in a couple more days. The headaches were awful but the lightheaded feeling was scary. Several times I was worried about passing out at work, even when sitting down. I made my mom stay on the phone with me one night on my way home from work out of fear I was gonna pass out behind the wheel (she offered to come get me but I'm stubborn and insisted on driving).
