What do I expect post surgery?

The pre op diet is really getting to me now. Im so hungry and almost dreaming of eating food I never would have even thought of with my band. This time next week will be my turn and it cant come soon enough. Did he say what caused your liver to be stuck to your stomach? Sent from my SM-T355Y using BariatricPal mobile app
  2. Im on the 25th also. Absolutely have had second thoughts about the sleeve - but my thoughts about not having it are scarier. I miss my band so much - and the feeling of fullness after meals. Cant wait to have that back again. Sent from my SM-T355Y using BariatricPal mobile app

    What medicine can I take?

What is the knee pain caused by that you are all speaking of? Only thing I can think of is that your body is starting to break down muscles instead of fat. Make sure you keep up your potassium intake as this can be also related to potassium and sodium deficiency.

Why is everyone converting from band to sleeve?

Thanks hermione53.... very nervous and unsure of things here now. From what I have read on this wonderful forum, my feelings seem to have been shared by many among us who have happily made the transition from a band to a sleeve. My surgeon seems to think that I will be angry with him down the track that he didn't suggest it sooner.

    1 Week Liquid Pre-op

I'm on day 4 of a two week pre-op Optifast diet. Only good thing is I have already lost 2.5kgs I find it easy during the day but unbearable at night when my family are eating :-(

Why is everyone converting from band to sleeve?

I don't think I ever learnt to eat healthy with the Band. All it enabled me to do was to control my portion sizes. I lost over 60kgs with my band and kept it off for 10+ years. I hadn't had a fill for over 3 years until last December. Who would have thought that .25ml could stop me from even swallowing my saliva? Had a barium swallow and it showed that my band had slipped. My surgeon said that the gastric band is great but definitely not forever. I"m on the two week optifast phase now - due to be sleeved May 25 and it can't come soon enough for me. :-)

    Any May Sleevers?

My BMI is 29 and my revision surgery is on the 25th, but I still have to do the liquid diet. My surgeon said this had nothing to do with my current weight or BMI, but instead is to ensure my liver is as healthy as possible and not enlarged for the surgery as this gives the best outcome. I'm in Sydney Australia, so maybe we do things differently down here?

  11. I wish you would go do your scare mongering somewhere else. I have never read one positive comment out of the many many many comments you have made. I am not sure what your objective is - but feel your negativity is detrimental and not in any way helpful in a forum like this. If you have had a bad experience I am sorry... but you dont even seem to be sharing your own experience, its always something you have googled with the intent to scare and I dont think thats right at all. Lack of support

She may indeed also lose the weight... but in my experience the real problem lies in keeping it off. For me, it was yo-yo dieting which made me fat in the first place. You just keep on walking forwards and be glad you have an awesome tool to help you on your journey.
  14. How can you speak about the reality of somebody elses situation being "so much easier to manage those things" rather than the complications the surgery "might" cause? Clearly you have had issues with your own revision based on your numerous negative comments all over this forum - and I am truly sorry that this is the case for you. But surely you realise that the complications you are experiencing are felt by a small minority of patients and is not the norm? Everybody I know, and from all feedback Ive read regarding patients who have had revision - they wish that they did it years ago rather than putting up with food blockages etc with the band.

    Nervous about revision

Sorry to hear that your family didn't support your wishes here. Can your Dr perhaps talk to them to highlight the overwhelming benefits you will receive from the conversion to the sleeve? While I understand that your family (and you) might be concerned about potential and valid risks - hopefully in time they might come around to understanding and supporting your wishes?

    Finally Approved

Congrats to you. I had only just read your other post about feeling depressed - so really glad you are moving closer to your op date.

Gastric sleeve with BMI of 35 - planning ahead

I stayed at my goal for 7 years. I wouldn't be having my band removed if it had not slipped. Im scheduled to be sleeved may 30

    My first time eating pizza!

No worries - and absolutely no judgementat all. Im just trying to ascertain how much food a sleeved person can comfortably eat compared to a person with a lap band. When I was first banded I could not eat bread or pizza at all but that changed over time. I was able to eat anything in moderation and I was lucky not to ever have to count calories with my band once I reached my goal weight- as the band just controlled how much of it I could ever eat. Im now without my band for 3 months until Im sleeved and am terrified of my issues of quantity slipping me up.

    Trying Hard Here!

I am in the process of converting from lapband to sleeve. What I found on my own journey was that some people actually prefer us to be a fat/sick/unhealthy or whatever as it makes them feel better about themselves. Real friends love you no matter how big or small you are... they love you for who you are and as you are. Weight loss surgery is a huge step and most people dont really understand it unless they are faced with the same situation. I now have people judging me because they wonder why i want to convert to the sleeve when I am a relatively normal weight. They have no idea of the relationship food and I have. I KNOW without surgery that I will get back to the heavy, unhealthy miserable me - and I never ever want to be that person again. If people dont understand that - then its their problem, not mine.

    My first time eating pizza!

Ive just had my lap band removed on Thursday and am waiting 3 months before being sleeved on may 30. I could only ever eat 1-2 slices of pizza with my band and I am assuming that your stomach is smaller with a gastric sleeve. Im wondering how you did this? Did you spend hours eating it or was it just like anybody would normally consume pizza? I'm intrigued.

Band to sleeve one surgery or two?

Anne, I was told that I never should be taking NSAIDs with the band either because of what it does to the upper stomach with the concentration being to much for the smaller stomach to handle and leading to complications. I will personally never take NSAIDs again after seeing what they did to my mother. She developed stomach ulcers from over use and it led to ulcerations of her stomach and she died from it. Sounds like you are just going through the adjustment phase with your GS? Can you not go back to your surgeon or dietician and perhaps get some tips to help you through this part of your journey - especially with your acid reflux. Hope things improve for you soon, as it sounds like you are struggling a bit at the moment?

Band to sleeve one surgery or two?

Hi my3angels, My surgeon only ever performs it as 2 surgeries. He showed me a picture of an actual stomach after band removal and it basically looked like a sausage - still all pulled together in the middle from where the band had once been.

    Band coming out today

Hi My3angels Surgery over and all good. Was up and walking around shortly after my op. The surgon said my band came out really easily. There are a few stitches internally within my muscles as they were apparently surrounding my port. But my stomach is in really good shape and will be fine to be sleeved on May 30. I elected to stay in hospital last night only so that our 3 year old didnt jump all over me. I slept really well and was only taking Panadol for pain relief after midnight. Just woke up now and feel refreshed and relatively pain free. There is three lots of external stitches on my stomach, but they are not uncomfortable at all. I am back on solid foods since immediately after the Op but didnt feel much like eating at dinner last night so just had Soup and a bread roll - felt really satisfied after that. Only side effect for me was feeling really thitsty after surgery. Happy to be on the other side and on my way to being sleeved now. I know that the recovery from that will be very different - but after having a really long talk with the nurse who had the GS - know im making the right decision.
  25. Hi all, Im new to this forum. Was banded about 10 years ago - had good weight loss and have maintained my weight at 70kg for 5+ years. My issues with my band started just before christmas. I went to have a fill and virtually could not swallow a thing. Had a barium swallow and could see band has slipped so surgeon suggested band removal and changing to gastric sleeve instead. I am sitting in reception of the hospital as we speak awaiting the operation to have my band removed. Booked to be sleeved on May 30. My surgeon mentioned that if I had damage to my stomach he might have to perform Gastric Bypass instead (that terrified me a bit) Is there anybody out there who has a similar experience to me... I'm just a bit worried as i don't really have much weight to lose - im concerned about how my body will adjust to the sleeve. I guess it already lives very happily on a restricted diet - but i know there is also a pretty dramatic weight loss phase post op. Im worried about my energy levels as we are scheduled to have a family holiday 5.5 weeks after my operation and hope I wont be suffering really low energy levels? My surgeon assured me I would be fine to travel but just looking for some reassurance.q I would love to hear from anybody who might be able to share their experience with me. I had posted on another thread, as I never realised there was a thread for exactly what I am about to go through.
