  1. Have a new one... I had to take a decent work headshot for our internal IM and network. This was after replacing my badge picture two weeks ago. Two weeks ago I got questioned on my costco card not looking at me.

Traveling in a few weeks and just had a panic moment about how much my DL or passport don’t really look a lot like me.

My family and I traveled out of the country a this past summer. I looked at my passport and went into full panic mode. It looks absolutely nothing like me. I had this fear I would get stuck out the country. The young lady in customs just looked up and down and said wow you lost a lot of weight. She then advised me to get a new passport the next time I plan on leaving the country.

  2. Ruth, what you are feeling is completely normal. I felt the same way. I thought the rest of my life would be miserable. The first few weeks I regretted it horribly. Almost 2 years out I feel like a new person. I'm down 120 pounds, a size 12 from a 26. I'm off of close to 10 medications. The last time I saw my primary care physician he stated I was cured. I wish I would have done it years ago. I enjoy life so much more. Things will get better.

  3. I also eat fish and shrimp...Can you tolerate seafood? These last few days chicken has not been going well with me, I'll lay off of it for a few days.
I'm almost 2 years out. I have to be very careful with steak. I may take one TINY bite of my hubby's. I never order it for myself. Tried it months ago and felt like I ate a brick. Also, can't do shrimp. No matter how they are prepared. I immediately feel full and nauseated. Potatoes are also a no no. I pretty much live off chicken, cheese and tuna pouches. I also eat plenty of salads. Those are my only real food issues. Well I cant eat holiday food. Especially dressing. It does the brick thing in my stomach as well. Two bites and I tap out. It's the oddest thing though. I can eat sweets and not dump at all. I don't make it a habit of eating sweets. I will occasionally. I'm still trying to figure this new stomach out.

  4. I had RNY March 2017. My highest weight was 330. Surgery day I was 292. This morning I was 176. I have no regrets. It was the best decision of my life. I should have done it years ago. My diabetes is gone. Im off about 5 different meds. My blood pressure is good. I can actually jog. I don't have dumping. I may burp a lot occasionally, if I over eat or eat too fast. I don't vomit any more than I did prior to surgery. Every now and then I know if I take another bite I will. So I don't take another bite. I did not lose any hair. It is as thick as it's ever been. My Vitamin levels are good I just finished exercising with my 5 year old. One of the perks. Before i could onlu sit and watch her run around. I went from a size 26 to a comfortable size 12. Everyone thinks I'm much smaller. I don't correct them. Also as Johnny2thumbs. I can generally eat what I want. I just stay away from sugar, rice, bread, Pasta, and others.

  5. Hi McKenzie. Without looking at the scale, I really started to notice about 1 1/2 months out. My clothes started to feel loose. I just started feeling different. I knew I was loosing pounds because I literally weighed daily. I still sometimes do. Actually I do it all the time. I didn't really FEEL it until then. I started at 292 surgery day. I'm a little over a year out. I weighed this morning. I'm down to 176.6.

As for others they noticed about 70 pounds out. A few co workers noticed but not many. After a 100 pounds a co-worker worker said "Did you lose weight"? I sarcastically said about 10 pounds. She said well you look good keep it up. I just laughed.

  6. I felt the exact same way after rny. I assure you it does get better. I'm down to 178 lbs from my highest weight of 330. 292 on surgery day. I fit comfortably in a size 12 down from a 26. My only regret is I waited until I was 41 years old to do it. I wasted my youth fat, sick, and unhappy. Just hold on and stick with it. Soon it will be a distant memory,

  7. Has anybody tried the Syntrax Nectar or other fruity Protein mixes? All of the reviews on websites are all 5 star... looking for real reviews, not paid fake ones.
    Thanks [emoji4]

    LOVE LOVE LOVE the:
    Lemon Iced Tea
    Grapefruit
    Fuzzy Navel

I sorta love the Green Apple for a once-in-a-while thing.

Here ya go! Bariatric Pal sells the individual serving sizes for you to buy and try. Here's the link: https://store.bariatricpal.com/products/syntrax-nectar-protein-powder-trial-sizes-17-flavors-to-choose-from?nosto=other-nosto-2

Also, you can go to Syntrax and purchase a sample of 17 different ones. But honestly? Some were HORRIBLE and I found the chocolatey and dessert ones just too sweet. I do like the ones I listed out of the 17 though. [emoji3] I think they coffee or mocha one was good too. I made iced coffee with it and diluted it, but prefer Premier Protein for my iced coffees now.

I love the Syntrax and I'm a pickup drinker. I love the Roadside Lemonade. As well as the caramel Cappuccino. I sometimes make a hot or cold coffee. I also order the variety pack from Amazon. It's about $37. My nutritionist gave me a number to order from where it's only about $15. I can't find the number. I'll call her Monday and post it.

  8. I suffered from basically all of the symptoms your wife has. Probably a few more. I had gastric bypass March 8, 2017. My tastes be have completely changed. I no longer have the desire for sweets, breads, or many other carbs. My husband also had a vasectomy. I'm 42 but I still take birth control pills because of the benefits. I was on 2 shots and 4 pills na day for diabetes. I no longer take them. I tried protonix and other meds for gerd. I ended up taking 40 mg of Omeprazole. As of a few months ago I no longer need them. I tried Treximet and Imitrex for Migraines. I still have them occasionally but not nearly as bad. I take Excedrin Migraine to help with that. This surgery has basically changed my life. My symptoms are about 95% improved. Even the knee pain is significantly better. I still have a little pain but nothing like it was. I know it's arthritis that stemmed from years of weighing 300 pounds. After years of hurting literally all over I feel gastric bypass has given me my life back. I'm able to do things I haven't done since I was a teenager. I can walk for miles and not skip a beat. I forgot this part. My a1c went from 10+ sometimes to 4.8 at my last visit.

  9. Only a very small percentage of bypass patients and sleeve patients experience dumping:
    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4875983/
If your wife opts for a bypass, there's no guarantee that she'll experience adverse reactions to ingested sweets and simple carbs.
If your wife cannot control her sweet tooth, she might need to abstain from simple sugars regardless of the bariatric procedure she chooses to undergo,

I am one of those that do not dump. I have tried sweets one or twice. I no longer have the desire for sweets.

  10. PS...I had an endoscopy and had chronic gastritis diagnosed, too. They took biopsies to check for the helicobacter pylori bacteria...and I didn't have any. No delay on surgery. (I did have sleeve, though, not RNY, full disclosure)

When researchers examine the removed portion of stomach from RNY and Sleeve patients...something obscene...like 60% show chronic gastritis.
You do want to have the test to make sure you don't have the ulcer bacteria present. If you have that, it'll need to be treated before surgery. But if not, it shouldn't cause a delay.

I was found to have gastritis and h-pylori a few weeks prior to surgery. I had to take some pretty mean antibiotics to cure it. 12 pills per day. The antibiotics we're worse than the gastritis. They still went on with the rny.
