  1. I had RNY on 4/4/17. I lost 26.6 lbs in like 2 1/2 weeks. This week I started on soft foods and gained 5lbs. I am super nervous. I know I shouldn't pay attention to the scale so I weigh myself once a week. My question is, is this normal? I drink at least 1 premier a day, been doing at least 48 oz of Water but more when I can fit it in. I eat yogurt for a morning snack and eat 1 meal. Am I doing something wrong? I guess I figured my weight would just instantly drop off weekly.

Could definitely have hit the three week stall. But I'm curious how much Protein are you eating a day? Should be between 60-90 grams. Your Fluid intake isn't bad. My nut said you have to work up to the 64 ounces a day and she was right. Also how many calories are you eating a day? Do you journal? I HIGHLY recommend it! I do soooo much better hitting my goals when I journal. I suggest you stay away from the scale for two weeks, concentrate on getting your protein and fluids in and see how you do. I stalled at three weeks for two weeks and then i started dropping weight off rapidly. Best of luck to you! [emoji4]

  2. Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone hit a weight loss stall early on after surgery. I hit a stall after my 2 week full liquid once I started purée. I track my intake and I know I'm not eating much. I get my Protein and pretty much most of my Water. The scale hasn't moved in 8 days and I am trying not to get discouraged but it is really hard. Thanks

My first stall was at 3 weeks and it lasted for 3 weeks. Perfectly normal. I'm now 10 weeks post op and down 70 pounds. I think I may have hit another stall but will know tomorrow. Stalls...plateaus whatever you want to call them are normal and you will probably hit several on the journey. Just your bodies way of adjusting to the change it's going through. Good luck. 3. 3 month follow-up went well. Down 90lbs total. Surgeon is happy with the progress. He wants me to focus on working out more and strength training to lessen the potential for excess skin in the end. Having this surgery was the best decision I have ever made. Congratulations! You look great! I agree with you that this surgery was the best thing I've ever done! 8 weeks post op and down 65 pounds.. [emoji846]

  4. Help, please, I don't know what's wrong. I had gastric bypass surgery 10 days ago. I am depressed and feel pulled in two directions. I want to get up and do things but I also feel the want to sit and do nothing. All I want is pizza (insert any food.) And I keep thinking about foods I cannot have and miss. Sometimes I feel the surgery was a mistake and should've waited. I am following the rules. Only broke once and are 1 cracker. I feel lost. I am not in danger of hurting myself or anything like that but I am losing my will power and feeling sorry for myself. Please tell me this is normal or someone else can relate. Where do I go now.. i do have a therapist and psychiatrists and appointments are made. I just need to find direction. Help? Advice?

Totally normal. In my opinion they don't prepare patients enough for the psychiatric side of having this surgery done. While I've been lucky to have had only one day I felt regret I know for many this is not the case. Hang in there... Keep your appointments and try to remind yourself all the reasons why you got the surgery to begin with. [emoji846]

  5. Get off the scale for the next two to three weeks. During a stall you can see ups and downs daily. When I hit a stall I don't weigh for about two weeks and it helps. Worst thing you can do during a stall is weigh yourself daily. Trust me you'll just feel it one day and you'll know your stall is over. I did and got on the scale and dropped almost 10 pounds.

  6. I never realized how much of a real addiction food was until now. I'm not hungry at all but yet I'm always thinking about food. Always.. Foods I wish I could eat right now. Foods that sound do good!! Constantly thinking about what I could possible get away with eating and cheating on my post op diet. I don't cheat though. I just sit here and sip my Protein shake and Water and daydream. I feel ridiculous.

I promise you it gets easier. The head hunger messes with you but it does subside. I'm 8 weeks post op and down 60 pounds. I just follow my surgeons guidelines and it works. So hang in there.

  7. Me too. I know the obvious reply. Follow the bariatric diet.
    Exercise, exercise, exercise
    Any unique suggestions?

Diet and exercise. You already got out of your surgery what you're going to get..rest is up to you. I guess the 'unique' part is up to you. Good luck!

  8. You're so right! Even pre-op diets have varied! My pre-op wasn't all liquid like some others. It's too bad you're lactose intolerant. Have you asked your doctor if there's anything like a supplement you can take to make dairy more tolerable? If not, no worries. I'm sure they've given you plenty of other options. I'm personally looking forward to pureed foods starting Tuesday because I made Eggface's ricotta bake and froze it. I just hope I can tolerate it. That and scrambled eggs. I've heard so many haven't tolerated scrambled very well but they can do other forms of egg. I wonder why that is?

Sent from my SM-G920T using BariatricPal mobile app

Not sure how much truth there is to this but my nut said that many don't do well with scrambled eggs. She said she thinks it has to do with the scrambling part and possibly putting too much air into the eggs and that doesn't sit well in the new pouch. I do hard boil and over medium and that sits just fine. [emoji846]

  9. I stalled at three weeks for three weeks and I too thought I'd be the one this surgery doesn't help.. I was sooo wrong and you will be too! I'm now 8 weeks post op and dropped 20 pounds in the last two weeks alone! And it hasn't stopped as I'm down 60 pounds now. So hang in there it will kick in again with a vengeance. I truly believe stalls are just our bodies way of catching up to all the changes we are putting it through... [emoji846]

  10. I am able to take sips I must say I get fuller now than I did with the sleeve week one sux if I see another bowl of broth I'm gonna barf I have asked the nurses for one cracker they said no I understand that they are doing their job but seriously 1 cracker smh anyways I am hoping I get to go home today my Blood pressure was out of wack so I had to stay an extra day which is good cause I needed the rest. Anyone else was craving Snacks week one? Or hated the broth? Can I try to incorporate purees when I get home or I have to do this until next Tuesday? Plus I found out the one person I used to follow on YouTube who always had great advise on her sleeve journey in Mexico passed away sux well I am truly hoping to see better results with this surgery cause the sleeve did not work for me at all my surgeon said that he was happy with the outcome! And that I will be happy with my results

Of course the nurses aren't going to give you crackers when you're on a liquid diet. Bet they were shaking their head at you. Follow the diet and instructions given to you. Do not advance your diet early or you'll increase your chances of complications substantially. Make sure you get your Protein in as it aids in the healing process. I'm 7 weeks post op and still don't have an appetite. I'm on solids now. Focus on what you can have and not what you can't have. Best of luck! [emoji846]

  11. So On A Full liquid diet how do you do that do you drink 3 a day then the rest of the day just drink Water I don't wanna starve myself they say it's harder to lose weight that way

It's not starving yourself. It's just like the full liquid diet you'll be doing after surgery. 60 grams of Protein a day, broth, fluids, sugar free Jello etc... Its the same most surgeons require a week or two before surgery. I ended up being on full liquid 4 weeks and did just fine. You just don't have all the heavy carbs.

  12. Thank You and no just a low carb 1500 calories diet and I drink about 3liters of Water a day tomorrow is my first day at the gym and I plan on going to meijers tonight to get some Protein shakes or powder Any suggest

Premier Protein Shakes have 30 grams of Protein in them. Very fulfilling. I did those for a week and a half and dropped 13 pounds. I did a full liquid diet. Sure I missed food cause I still had my old stomach but I felt great! The chocolate was my favorite. I drank them for a couple of weeks after my surgery but struggled cause they felt too heavy in my new pouch. I switched to Atkins shakes then and did great. They only have 15 grams of protein but I found they weren't as heavy in my new pouch. Hope this helps!

  13. That's the bad thing about the internet..you can always find the bad. I had checked into doing the surgery 15 years ago and backed out cause I knew at the time I wasn't ready. I felt like I hadn't exhausted all means of getting my weight under control. I had my gastric by pass 1/30/17 and I have no regrets. As a nurse I took care of post op gastric patients. I knew the bad up close and personal. But i refused to let that deter me. The day of my surgery I knew this was my last hope. I did it for pure unselfish reasons. I have a sick child who has a very long road ahead of him and I knew I wouldn't be around to help him through what lies ahead of him if I didn't get healthy. My fear wasn't of my weight killing me...my fear was of it killing me before I could help my child through the tough times that lie ahead. If you're having doubts then I suggest you hold off. Maybe just postpone. Trust me when you decide one way or another you'll know. With every Fiber if it's the right thing for you. This is your chapter...your life. Only you can decide sweetie what the next chapter brings. Just don't let fear be your guide. I wish you the best.... [emoji846]

  14. HF are you doing a liquid diet with Protein? If so I think you'll probably get close to that 50. I think your surgeon is just seeing if you're committed and capable to doing the changes that it takes to make this work. The surgery truly is just a tool. We have to do the work. That being said if you get close do not hesitate to tell the surgeon you did your best to hit the goal that was set for you and you'd like to go forward with the surgery. If he's doing GBP with the robotic route he needs that liver to be as light as possible. Either way just ask your surgeon. There's no magic way with them. Doing the work and honesty will work in your favor. He'll know if you truly did the work. That being said I'm an RN and worked many years with surgeons and still do. They put their pants on the same way we do...don't feel intimidated. I think you'll do great! You're already off to a great start! .

  15. Krenea...sorry for the late reply. No I wasn't nervous. I was excited to get a new lease on life and to start feeling better. I'm down 50 pounds now and I feel so much better than I did. I have no regrets. I have my six week post op check up this week. Little nervous about my diet being advanced but I'll do fine I think. I was off work for 4 weeks. First two weeks were kinda rough and my energy level was low. Taking care of patients is physically demanding so I wanted to be feeling as good as I could when I went back. First week was tough but it's much easier now. [emoji846]

  16. I'm 5 weeks post-op and I guess I'm lucky cause all the junk food doesn't even look appetizing to me. We've had several parties at work with all kinds of junk food and I just ignore it. I wish I had some words of wisdom for you. I try not to make food the center of my life now. I focus on eating to live and not the other way around. And I guess seeing the results so far makes it easier to stick to it. Good luck!

  17. Tell him if he even thinks this is the easy way out he's sadly mistaken and obviously has very little knowledge of what's involved in wls. Wls is anything but easy... Good luck and don't let anyone dictate what you should and shouldn't do. Your body...your decision.
