RXRW got a reaction from mountaingirl61 in Looking for the most highly recommended gastric bypass surgeon
I should add that the entire Team Approach lives from the Orientation class through Post surgery classes. I go see Dr. Witkowski next week to see how I'm healing and I have my Nutritional Group meeting about Stage 3 of the diet.

    Hi Everyone:
For me this journey started when I went to the doctor in February 2017 about fixing my hiatal hernia. I have lived with the Heidel hernia for more than 10 years but lately it was giving me problems and impacted my quality-of-life. The surgeon I went to (who would eventually do my gastric bypass) let me know that he could fix the Heidel hernia but that unless I lost a significant amount of weight it would return. So here I am 6 days out from surgery and healing well.
Greatest Challenges: Finding a good sleeping position that lasts for hours. Gas pain in shoulders.
Greatest Accomplishments: No vomiting, able to do 4oz of Protein Shake, teas, Water, popsicles. Consistently staying hydrated and I love the taste of my Vitamins. [emoji23]
I hope to continue to share my journey with you all. I am thankful for this new lease on life and plan to take full advantage of it. [emoji1420]

RXRW reacted to Apple2 in Day after surgery
First I would like to say I had a great team. My doctor and anesthesiologist and Rn's was so wonderful. All I remember was getting rolled into the OR. The pain is hard when the anesthesia was wearing off. I started getting cold and the pain, but the medication would help. The itching started kicking in was getting on my nerves, but other than that I did get some sleep able to walk and use the restroom. Well day 2 let's see who the day go.

RXRW reacted to linah in Osteoperosis as complication from RNY
I had high cholesterol, sleep apnea and bad heartburn issues due to a sliding hiatal hernia. The Dr wanted to do a RNY, I was very hesitant due to a fear of malabsorption issues. Decided to take the risk and go for gastric sleeve instead (if my heartburn issues got worse, I could then have the RNY if I had to). Had the sleeve and the hernia repair at the same time. I have been very lucky during the recovery, no major issues, relatively painless, I'm at 5 months out and no heartburn in the last 4 months :-). Sleep Apnea is gone, cholesterol has improved but I still take Lipitor (lowest dose possible though)

I had all of the things you mentioned, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes on insulin, gout and I was able to stop all my meds immediately after surgery. I had diabetes for 10 years. In my opinion the surgery was completely worth it. I am 9 months out and do follow directions. I can see where things could go wrong if you don't eat right or take Vitamins. I have been taking all mine and my blood test are all within normal. Before surgery I also had high liver enzymes and that is reversed too.

I know a few people who have had the RNY and only one has complications and the others don't. The difference I have noticed between them is the one who has complications doesn't follow dr orders. No Vitamin, drinking alcohol etc.. if I were you I would go get a second opinion.
