Ugh! So lucky with no pre op diet! Definitely no fun! Sadly still 10 more days to go. Hope it gets better!
But you are going to rock it after that [emoji109]

I met with my surgeon on 4/18/17. All is well and still going forward on 5/3/17 to be sleeved!! I was anticipating the pre-surgery diet, although I've already made changes in my nutrition before deciding to have wsl. When I asked her any special diets needed before my surgery date, she looked at me confused and said, "what do you mean?" I told her no liquid diet for the next 2 weeks? She told me that I was good and that only the night before go in a liquid diet. That was probably the most positive news she's given me lol.
Today I did my blood work, chest X-ray and ekg. Exciting times!!!
My surgeon was the same about liquid diet. She told me to make sure I get some carbs [emoji12]

Hey guys! Sorry I haven't been on in a little while. First thing. About a Facebook group. I found one that has already been created and I have joined it. So far it seems pretty good! It's called "April/May '17 Sleeve support group". It should come up in search. If not, I can try to link it here in another post!
TTrisha, I'm so sorry to hear about your potassium issues. I hope it gets resolved soon! Guess what? Just now prior to surgery again they've found another issue with me that might mean I have to cancel surgery again! Last time it was uncontrolled diabetes. This time I might have Cushings! My cortisol levels have been testing through the roof! But I am still waiting on confirmatory results and another analysis by my endocrinologist. They did a CT scan though and my left adrenal gland is nodular (meaning it has lots of tiny tumors on it). She still thinks that I might not have Cushings though. I don't know how she thinks that at this point though given I do have the adrenal tumors and the high cortisol. I'm praying I can go ahead with surgery.
Sweet, you asked me how my diabetes is now. Well, it is much better than it was but still not where I need to be. However, my blood sugars and A1C results are at an acceptable level for surgery to occur. I had a lot of side effects from using the insulin, so we are trying to control it with a max dose of Metformin and Glipizide twice daily. I am also doing a ketogenic diet which is very good for diabetics, especially at helping reverse it. The surgery was my next step so I can reduce weight and hopefully get rid of it. Though if I have Cushings, my diabetes might be partially caused by that and would explain why it's been hard to control.
Hope you all are doing well and hope you guys join the Facebook group! It says it's for people having surgery from April 15th 2017 to May 15th 2017, but I don't think there's be any issue with any May sleevers who are having surgery towards the end of May!
Nico
Nico, I am sorry to hear about all the issues you are having. I am diabetic too and can understand how frustrating it can be when you are trying to do the right thing for your health and have obstacles.
Please keep us posted and I will join the Facebook page. See you there.

Hey Trish,How was your first day with the full liquid diet? I'm living vicariously through you because mine start next Tuesday and I'm curious did you get results yet or is it too early? [emoji3]
Hey Sweet, my preop diet doesn't start till May 4th. I only have one week of low calorie and high Protein diet and 1 day of liquid diet before surgery.
My blood results came back. My potassium was lower but still little out of range. I am supposed to see my primary on Monday to see if he can put me on some meds to help control my levels. Right now I am just taking one day at a time. They will do my blood work right before surgery and if my levels are not in control they will postpone.
I am hoping my primary will give me something to help. Thank you for thinking ok me [emoji4].
How are you doing on your journey?

I have a pre op diet for a week but it's just Protein Shakes and low carb dinner. My liquid diet is only for a day before surgery.

I am also scheduled for May 11th!
Let's hope you and I go in together. I am going back for my blood work today to retest for potassium. Wish me luck.
-
I hope so to as well. Waiting so long and get excited. Know that feeling it sucks.
Thank you! Pray for me, surgery aside having high potassium levels can be life threatening [emoji19].
-
That is incredible is There any way to decrease the levels.
I have been reading but really nothing you can do. I am going for a retest tomorrow at my endo's office. I am hoping it was just a mistake.

My surgeons office just called me and said that my potassium level came high in my blood work and if it stays high they will need to postpone my surgery. I have never been diagnosed with high potassium levels and they want me to go to my primary and recheck my levels. Anyone else went through this?

Saw the pulmonologist yesterday and he gave my clearance. I have a mild form of sleep apnea that he is sure will go away once I lose some weight. I have my pre surgical testing scheduled for Monday morning which I see going smoothly and getting the thumbs up there as well. My final clearance is with my PCP which is scheduled for the 19th and I see that going well too. Then the fun 2 week liquid diet would begin on 4/25. Getting so close and super excited!
Good luck!

I went out today and bought Muscle milk Protein Shake. It taste and smells good. You can get them in power or premade.
Just be careful with muscle milk. I have tried them in past and then discovered they have a lot of corn starch/carbs.

I used to drink Premier Protein shakes but I developed an allergy to them. I switched to Slim Fast Optima; it's the one with 25 grams of Protein, almost no sugars and no carbs. I have been liking and tolerating it well.
