Comprehending gastric bypass...
I have been researching gastric bypass since November 2016. My surgery is less than 2 months from now. I was somewhat familiar with it before then but not fully educated on it. What I am learning as time goes by is that reading posts on this site, viewing youtube videos plus the research I do on my own & taking notes is so beneficial. The more information I surround myself with and comprehending that information makes me feel more secure with my decision to have the surgery. Learning the possible outcomes whether it be a complication a rare complication and or what is normal gives me a sense of awareness that will help if I encounter anything post op and or during recovery period. The more you know and understand gastric bypass and your responsibilites the better your results. This surgery is not for those who refuse to follow their doctor's instructions. My doctor stated to me that he puts safety on the top of his list with his patients. That stuck to me and I appreciate him for saying that. So, that means the patient also needs to put safety on top especially during the healing process. The whole purpose of the body needing time to heal properly and fully is that we have to follow the instructions given to us because it was designed for us so we can be successful in healing and then progressing on to the next step. I dont want to disappoint my surgeon and I definitely do not want to disappoint myself. This is about choice. This road is a journey that takes time and patience.

Premier Protein
Thank you for responding. I did read somewhere about the taste buds may change post op. Trial and error type thing with this. I will plan to look into other protein shakes to serve as a backup if my taste buds cant take the premier protein. Thank you Sent from my LG-H811 using BariatricPal mobile app

Premier Protein
I am preparing my budget and lifestyle toward premier protein being my liquid protein supplement. My nutrition class is on June 20. I have started incorporating premier protein as a meal replacement for breakfast. I like to be prepared for my new lifestyle. My surgery is July 17 2017. I have already set up a re ocurring shipment through shop premier protein. Caramel is hard to find in my area so I figured to order it from them and the other flavors I can buy at Wamart. It is the best tasting protein supplement I have ever had so I plan to use it post op and for life in general. My question is can anyone tell me if their nutritionist allowed this as an approved pre op and post op? I have read that some doctors allow a light diet and others a clear. So is it based on what kind of diet the doctor puts you on? Or are some doctors and nutritionists ruling out premier protein no matter what type of diet they put you on pre op? Ready to go!
Its normal to have thoughts of whether this is the right thing for you. For me how I look at it is that the bypass will be a great tool to get me healthier and to a normal weight. Having surgery is a serious decision to make. I had months to do my own research about it including getting information from others on this site. It seems like the more I got educated about gastric bypass the more I was convinced it will be the best thing for me. My surgery is on July 17. I am excited. It was a long process but to know my life will change for the better and my health will improve along with the responsibility of eating healthier will only benefit me for the better and extend my life. Stay strong Good luck to you- Sent from my LG-H811 using BariatricPal mobile app

Anyone with a July surgery-July 17 2017- My surgery date
Cardiac exam is quick & easy. I noticed that with heart specialist they may have a full schedule so its good to schedule the cardiac appointment as soon as possible but if you have already scheduled it make sure you go to it. The reason why I am saying this is because they fill up quick and when I rescheduled it took me another 3 weeks to get in. So try to avoid rescheduling so you can get that clearance. I also had to go through an extra exam with my heart specialist so that caused another delay. The sleep study was ok for me they woke me up throughout the night so that wasnt the best sleep. I have moderate apnea and I am on a full mask cpap. If you do have sleep apnea they will order a c pap machine before your surgery. Insurance pays for it but you have to use it or they will stop paying for it. Before I got mine my nurse told me you have to have the cpap machine before your surgery& also bring it with you for the hospital stay post op. I finally got my machine and it so very helpful. Like I stated in an earlier post. This is a process and at times it will go fast and then go slow but still in all it brings you closer to your surgery date. Just keep working on getting all your pre op finished and keep the smile on your face. Youre almost there. Happy face

Anyone with a July surgery-July 17 2017- My surgery date
I completed all my testing. My last appointment with nutritionist is this month. I started in November I had a couple of health issues that needed to be addressed so I had lots of testing and doctor appointments. It has been a very long road for me. I had two doctors that were very negative about me having gastric bypass so I replaced them both with doctors that both are so very happy for me and very supportive!

Anyone have a history of low sodium blood before gastric bypass?
I now have to see a kidney specialist to have tests ran on my kidneys because for a couple years my bloodwork shows chronic low sodium blood & high & low creatine. Basically, I have a chronic electrolyte imbalance. From my understanding my surgeon wants to find the source and get it treated and then discuss if gastric bypass will still be okay for me. Has anyone have a chronic electrolyte imbalance before gastric bypass? If so, how was it treated? Did the doctor say gastric bypass would not be safe because of it? I am worried but I know its best to be safe.

Baby Food
I just started researching baby food. You are so right about the price! I was in Walmart last week looking at different baby food and prices. I see that they have organic types too. What amazes me that one little jar can have 13 carbs! I was like WOW! That's a lot of carbs in a little jar. I bought Gerber sweet potato&Turkey with whole grains. The taste is bland. Its ok. Low in sodium but has 6 grams of sugar. That seems like a lot too. I will continue to try other types and brands. I know that our taste buds will change after surgery so having a variety & different brands should work. I like the two pack plastic ones.

Feeling alone and discouraged
God will always be with you. I am in the beginning of my journey and I had to say no to people around me who always want something. I did it for myself so I can concentrate on my health & to prepare for this new lifestyle. Sometimes you have to be selfish and let others know that you have to concentrate on getting healthy and you wont have time or brain power to deal with them. This is the time for you to continue moving forward in your new lifestyle. Nothing no one says is important. What is important is that God is with you & he will never leave you. Your family your friends may not support you & or stop talking to you but ... God will always be with you & you can always talk to him. Your help comes in the name of the Lord who made heaven & earth. Please lean on the Lord to guide you & keep you strong. In Jesus name. Amen CW: 319 SD:May 2017 GW: 128

Surgery date
I told the nurse after my surgery consult that only the 2nd week of May will work for me. She walked over to the schedule and made a note. She told me requests arent a problem but the paperwork can cause a delay if it didnt get submitted in time. We all have a life so I figure whats wrong with giving them a good time for me based on my schedule. Nothing wrong with that. I have heard where they would call if there was an opening to ask if you would like an earlier date. I guess it justs depends if your office is open to requests. CW: 319 SD:May 2017 GW: 128

Cheating on the liquid diet
Thats great to hear your family will help you. The pre op diet is the first step toward eating healthier. Have you reviewed your post op diet? Or anything online regarding post op diet? That will be good to review it and get understanding of it because everything has to be measured and followed. I purchased a scale and measuring cups and spoons. Its always a good idea to prepare yourself. Just dont cheat again. I think I read that a surgeon may reschedule surgery if the liver has not shrunk or something like that. The pre op diet is to be followed in order to shrink you for surgery and to see if you follow it & lose some weight before surgery. CW: 319 SD:May 2017 GW: 128

Vitamins and taking pills
I am going with the liquid, chewables & chews (a combination of the three). I have problems with my big pills so after my bypass I will switch to them. I do not want to put myself in the position of swallowing big pills or any pills after surgery. Celebrate Vitamins & Wellesse liquid Calcium citrate & Bariatric Advantage are the brands I will use. Matter of fact I will stick to the liquid, chewables and chews. Yes, they do add up in price. Being that they are bariatric gives me comfort because they are tailor made. Or at least I know what is recommended and take them according to my needs CW: 319 SD:May 2017 GW: 128
