I'm June 2 as well!
Awesome. Starting pre-surgery diet this Friday May 19. My doc says 1000 cal per day. Thank God it's just 2 weeks. [emoji5]Bodybysleeve reacted to this -
I'm confused. At what point do you find out your surgery date? I have one visit with the dietitian left, have all all my blood work and endoscopy and physiological ok.
After you get insurance approval, you set your date. -

Use your bmi as a guide. My insurance deems DS medically necessary if 50+.
I was originally enticed to DS due to the post up success statistics but worried about the possible problems. I asked my surgeon if he felt this was my best option, considering my current health issues and the amount of weight I had to lose and he looked over my file and said it was. That made me feel better about my choice.
I still had to meet with the nutritionist, so I did some research with my insurance company and learned that they consider DS to be medically necessary if BMI is over 50. Mine is 53 and that sold me! I'm committed to doing what is required post op. Now just waiting for answer back from insurance.
I also figure that the supplements that I'll need to take post op have far less negative effects than the medications I'm currently taking.

My surgeon also discussed the stats with me, which is what gave me pause about just doing the sleeve. This is hard work, for any of the surgeries, and I want it to be a one and done kind of thing. I lost a lot of weight by doing weight watchers and high impact exercise several years ago. I thought I would never let myself backslide like I have, but I did. So I don't rule it out with the surgery either, but the DS gives a little more security against weight regain. I do realize that any of the surgeries will require a high level of compliance with the diet and exercise to be successful long term.
I'm leaning toward the DS, but the thought of changing the way my gut works by moving my intestines around is terrifying to me. My husband is worried about it too and is hoping I choose the sleeve only. I still have time to research and decide, but for right now, I waffle back and forth as to what to choose.

I think the most important thing is to let you surgeon know your concerns.

I wanted to share my story and pictures. For those, that are considering surgery or going through the process, hang in there and just DO it!!!! the benefits are ultimately worth it
Anyway, here are my stats:
I'm 5'3 and 30 years old:
HW: 263 lbs
SW: 257 lbs
CW: 139-142 lbs fluctuate around this weight
GW: 130-135
I don't know if anyone wants to read my lenghty experience, but if you do, I posted it on RealSelf under my same user name. Oh yeah and people.com got a wind of my story, and posted it on their page. I really hope whoever is struggling doesn't give up and know that is hope and always light at the end of the tunnel!!!
Looking great! One of my worries is excess skin, especially the arms as bat wings run in my fam. lol Would love to know more about your workout routine and schedule.

Kicking ass and taking names. You look awesome!! -
Also ask for help with insurance from your surgeon's staff. They are the ones that deal with the billing and such and know what I'd required with the different insurance companies.

Not only is it possible, but you can do it!
Thanks for your encouragement, it means a lot!Hoping052017 reacted to this -
I'm scared I won't be happy with how I look either. I will be happy to be off a lot of the medicines I take and all and I can't wait for the clothes ( love clothes and shoes but currently hate shopping because none of the cute stuff I want to wear fits me) As for pictures...I very rarely let anyone take a picture of me unless it's from the shoulders up. I don't want to look at myself at all - mirror or otherwise.Me too, but I'm also excited to see what I'll look like. I've been overweight my whole adult live and can't remember being under 200 lbs. I'm 280 now and very excited to get my surgery date!

Keto is great for losing, but can you eat that way for the rest of your life in maintenance?
