    I think I am a hypocrite!

Lol, I'm sure he noticed, but no sane man is bringing up anything about a woman's weight. [emoji23][emoji23]

    Anyone from the Chicagoland area

It'll ebb and flow, but as long as you're not gaining I try not to worry (too much). Surgery - 1/23/17 HW 640 SW 470 CW 412

    Next Step

Update: as of today, I'm down to 424. Still a ways to go, but I'm grateful for the progress!
  4. Don't forget, people like to put their friends and acquaintances in neat little categories. If they had you labeled as the 'fat friend' who was always available, what happens now? You'll be off doing new things and their jealousy is leaking out.
  5. Did you notice it with seafood? Shrimp is very unfulfilling now for me. [emoji26]

    Anyone 370 lbs or more?

Started at around 640. I got myself down to around 510 and then wet into the whole insurance process for surgery. Got down to 470 for the surgery (1-23-17). As of today, 424.

    Just had VSG

My Dr. had me doing breathing exercises. Just basically taking 10 real deep breaths and exhaling fully every hour. If you feel comfortable sleeping on your side have at it. It took me a few weeks, but I'm glad to be able to do it again.

    Hello Chicago people!

Yep getting up was my last hurdle. I would end up standing around because I didn't want to sit and have to get up again, lol.

    Chest Exercises

I'm no expert, but I would think k that various bench press exercises would be effective along with the weight loss of course. Incline, Flat, and Decline bench press for starters. Maybe push ups also?

    Chicago Sleevers

I had my procedure done at Silver Cross, down in New Lennox, by Dr. Joyce. Good experience, very nice hospital and staff.

    Chicago Sleevers

Good luck! I'm in Chicago also, down in Beverly.

    Blood work before surgery

Yep, I gave too, lol. They want to check levels and stuff. My doc had me as some folic acid to my vitamins after.
  13. No, the pre-op diet was rough for me too, but it's much better after surgery (for me at least).
  14. Went to the barbershop (barber is a family friend) and saw my barber later. He wanted to make sure I was OK (been going to the barber for years). They all thought I got sick or had cancer. [emoji52]? At least they checked on me though, lol.

    Weighing in.

I weigh in every morning. It works for me to keep me on track but, you have to be prepared for the stalls and such. For me it's more focus driven. Eyes on the prize and all that.
  16. I was in GNC and looking at Protein bars. They always taste dense and a bit grainy to me, but sometimes it's easier than drinking. I noticed that a lot of the bars had quite a few carbs (and sugar in some). I mentioned it to the GNC guy and he said you have to deduct the dietary Fiber from the carb coins to get the true count. Anyone else heard of this? I sense some shenanigans, but I could be wrong. So basically one bar had 22g carbs and 15g of dietary fiber so according to his calculation, that's actually 7g of carbs?

    Psych Clearance

Im in Chicago also. I'm sure each psych is different but the questionnaire for me was basic personality tests, like the Michigan Multiphasic. The session itself was pretty standard. They ask about your history, what you know about the procedure, etc. It seems like the goal is to see where you're at and if you're mentally stable enough to work through everything the surgery presents.
  18. I'm following this also, it's not too bad so far. I was a little run down (probably from the surgery itself, but is seems OK. There's also a ton of recipies online also.

Yeah, me either, I have to respond through the email notifications.
  21. What is everyone taking for soreness? I'm pretty sure my doc said ibuprofen and nsaids like Aleve and Advil are out. Ibuprofen was my drug of choice, lol. I'm not sure Tylenol is going to cut it? Also do any of you take pre and post workout drinks? I'm thinking with my lower intake of calories and food in general I might need it. I know I lost some muscle, but man I felt weak as hell my first day back. I won't embarrass myself with numbers.

    Protein bars and carbs

I guess I'm being paranoid. I am staying well under the 50g I set a day. Usually under 25, but I know it can be a slippery slope. Do you like the taste of the Quest bars?

Hey Laura 62, I'm in Beverly, right next door, lol.

Hey! Dr. Joyce did mine on 1-23-17. You can PM me if you have questions about the process or whatever.

    Weightlifting questions.

Thanks everyone. I guess I'll try some stretching and stick with the Tylenol. I don't have access to a steam room or sauna, but a hot shower might do me some good. Anybody using preworkout or post-workout (for recovery)?
