I haven't went through my Phys evaluation yet, but I did go to an orientation and they were saying the percentage is super high for couples to divorce after one of them has weight-loss surgery. I have heard they do you want a good support system for the patient that is having surgery

That definitely is a good idea call Kaiser or your doctors office like I said I have never heard of someone especially just switching insurance to not have to take the options class but maybe they're allowing you to not take it since you're already have done other steps. Let me know what you find out I'm curious and it will be nice to follow you on your journey I'm not far behind if you don't have to take the classes Tammy

Yes I would definitely call the office just to find out.

I would check with KAISER the 800 number and see what the requirements are because most Kaiser patients have to do classes for at least 12 weeks or 24 weeks in California so maybe he's not giving you all the information.

As far as losing weight you sound like you're on a right amount of calorie intake I'm just trying to lose my weight in between my classes and that's about the calorie intake I'm taking in plus I'm walking about 4 miles a day

Well I started 1st with my doctor and then she referred me so I could have an orientation after my orientation they scheduled my 1st class of 12 and the way it works where I am at you have to attend all 12 classes and during that time you get all your preop stuff done, bloodwork EKG's psych and some more and then once the 12 weeks is up then a 1-2 weeks later you meet with the surgeon and then they schedule you for surgery they told us sometimes the surgeon might want you to lose 5 or 10 more pounds but all during the 12 week class we are supposed to lose 10% of her body mass. So did you have to take 12 weeks of classes or just one nutrition class

Hi Phoinixe Have you already finished your option classes, I am just getting ready to start mine next week from what I understood is when you have Kaiser and you take these classes they teach you everything that you need to do and eat I would think your doctor would've given you a diet to follow. Also if you took the option classes did they tell you that you need to lose 10% body mass when I went to orientation last week they stated everybody needed to lose 10% during the 12 weeks that we have class.

Unfortunately I have to drive an hour and 5 minutes to go to my class we do not have one where I live or a Kaiser that does the classes but it is worth it for me to go. I'm pretty sure it is a requirement for everyone to lose the 10% they even did tell us sometimes a surgeon when you do meet with them after you lose the 10% they sometimes want you to lose 5 or 10 more pounds. Since going to my orientation last week with Kaiser Insurance I weighed myself again this morning and I've dropped 9 pounds. They told us that during the 12 weeks of Options class we have to lose 10% I think of our body mass which they told me is 14 pounds for me and I haven't even started the classes yet and I've already lost 9 so excited. AnneElliot if I can asked you what type of problems are you having? I do understand that yes we are having a portion of our stomach cut out. I have tried every diet there is and have had success a little bit but never major I am ready for a life change to start over again I have heard that the gastric balloon is coming out but who knows when it will be out. I also have had 3 friends who have done the gastric sleeve and had had success. In our class they did say that the majority of people do gain the weight back after 2 years back but if you do you what you're supposed to do and stick to the proper eating then you will be successful. Yes I cannot wait to start my Options class our class is a big class there's 30 people in it. It was the soonest class that was starting so of course everybody wanted it same thing with me the next one didn't start till April 7 and then one started in May.. They basically told us that during the 12 weeks you do all your preop's and lose your 10% then when you're finished with the class usually it takes about 1 to 2 weeks to get an appointment with the surgeon and then within a couple weeks after that you're scheduled to have your surgery. I live in Tehachapi Ca you are definitely not too far for me i used to live in Chatsworth..I am going to the Bakersfield Kaiser I will be having my surgery done at San Joaquin medical center. I called my doctor on January 13th I had just seen her a few weeks before and we had talked about me wanting to do something with my weight and told her I wanted a referral to the bariatrics and then I received a letter from them on January 18 excepting me into The weight-loss orientation class 2/7 Orientation to Options 2/21 Will be my 1st Options class We will definitely have to follow each other we are so close and doing the classes and hopefully the surgery. Hi Monica where do you live? and do you have to do the 12 weeks of Options classes or longer I have heard some Kaiser's require longer than 12 weeks different areas. Where I live we only have to do the 12 weeks Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
