  1. Fluids are the #1 priority. If you aren't getting in at least 50oz, don't be eating things like oatmeal. And don't walk more than a mile a day until you are getting at least close to goal for fluids and protein. We don't worry about what the scale is saying this early out. We worry about consumption. If you don't meet your goals, you'll end up sick.
  2. Yes, you need to talk to the surgeon.. but in the meantime can you tolerate milk? If you can, just drink that for a while. Skim milk is thinnest, but 2% might taste better. Do what you can tolerate. Lactaid is super sweet, but will be an option if lactose is a problem. Fairlife is not sweet and has no lactose and extra protein. Experiment around. Milk has protein, energy, vitamins, etc. So you won't need the protein shakes if you can keep it down. Everyone is scared of the carbs in milk, but the first month is about healing, not weight loss, so don't worry about the carbs. (In plain milk...not saying go hog wild with added sugars). You've got to get some nutrition on board, so hopefully this will help until your doc can do something else. Drink up to 2 quarts of milk if you can. It counts as fluid too.
  3. Ok, so in case y'all haven't figured it out.. Ice cream without chunks fits into the "full liquids" category.
  4. You poor thing! That sounds miserable! You are the first person I've seen post with the balloon, so we aren't ignoring you, we just have no experience with it. Please keep coming back, as eventually someone else with some experience is bound to show up [Hugs] Hope you feel better, and keep us informed in how it goes!
  5. Even if the overwhelming majority of men are jerks, it is that rare bird that isn't that you are looking for. They are out there Give Mr. Coffee a chance. You'll figure out soon enough if he seems to be settling, or if he truly likes you.
  6. My favorite job! Playing devil's advocate! Ok, so me thinks she doesn't want to date a former fatty because of one very prominent reason we all went in for the surgery. The 95% chance of regain! We don't know if he has kept the weight off for more than a couple years. If he has, that's wonderful, and the chances of him continuing to keep it off are much better than 5% But, if he is a new loser, then statistically speaking, he's gonna fall off the wagon, and possibly drag a girlfriend down with him. On the other hand, if he has a girlfriend with a tiny tummy that will keep up a healthy lifestyle for a lifetime, and he can benefit from that too. The question is whether the girlfriend wants someone with whom she can work on issues together, or whether she prefers to fly solo (or even find someone that naturally eats well, and that can help keep her in line). And, even though the date went well, maybe she just isn't attracted to him for insubstantial reasons, and figured maybe it's to do with his history.
  7. Big spoon, regular spoon, demitasse spoon. After 2 months of using the smallest spoon, the others look grotesque, lol.
  8. My local grocery store has little cups of several types kinda scattered through the store. Walmart probably has them too. We didn't use the little medicine cups in the hospital. They just had 4 ounce plastic cups and 8 ounce water bottles. So I never tried using the little 1-2oz cups. I just took my time with regular ones. Now, a couple months out, I use the biggest cups I can find. When I first started purees I heated up 1/2 a can of soup in a regular sized bowl. Took two bites and was stuffed. This was the most distressed I have been in the process. Weighing and measuring food into the small bowls has made a world of difference, psychologically. 2 ounces of food in a 6 ounce bowl looks ok. And long term, we only eat 4oz of most things at a time.
  9. These are fiesta fruit bowls.. 6oz. I also got the 8 ounce salsa bowls for soup. The flatware is Food Network.. demitasse spoons and forks. They are great!
  10. I love love love love my baby plates and flatware. I keep on adding more!
  11. This is one of those things that could mean nothing, or it could get serious quickly. Umm.. Pass out while driving anyone? Good to get checked out to make sure it was just the alcohol.
  12. By this time next year it will just be wrinkles then you'll wonder where your balls went! (This whole process definitely requires testicular fortitude!)
  13. What kind of cream of wheat? Mine has virtually no protein...
  14. Extra bed pillows and stuff that helps with constipation.
  15. Definitely would be a good idea to go to your doc and get some bloodwork done. Make sure you aren't short on something. That little bit of alcohol shouldn't have done that.
  16. I know you hate to hear it, but the first summer after surgery it's a good idea to keep those scars covered. That will give them the best chance at fading for future summers. The sun can darken the scars, making them more visible permanently. At the very least, use plenty of sunscreen on them. Congrats on getting your bikini body, that's awesome!
  17. It comes out. It's just a form around which the surgeon staples the stomach (for shape).
  18. IF the stomach is producing too much acid, or if the stomach is actually inflamed (gastritis), acid reducers will help. Both of those situations DO result in feelings of hunger. (I think it is a protective mechanism by the body.. food absorbs the acid, and therefore is itself a temporary acid reducer.) If acid/inflamation isn't the problem, then the acid reducer won't help, and it is good to explore what else might be the cause.... I. E. Not enough food, head hunger, too much exercise, too many simple carbs, etc. Some amount of hunger is normal. But being hungry every 30 minutes is not.
  19. I think post op constipation is the most frequently posted issue. Some people get diarrhea, but constipation is very common. You may want to take extra care talking to your team so they can give you the best recommendations for your situation.
  20. Ok, this is different from my understanding. I have understood the gallbladder stores and concentrates the bile. When a fatty meal is consumed, the gallbladder releases some stored bile. If no fat is eaten, the bile can continue concentrating more and more, forming stones. So since we are looking at this from opposite perspectives, the treatment/prevention would absolutely be different. Guess I have more research to do...
  21. I ran through the other macros. The carbs in the smoothy are outrageous, so I'll concentrate on the v8
  22. Jay..you sound like you are being too hard on yourself. Fruit, yogurt, nuts.. sounds like wholesome food maybe the gallbladder has been holding you back. I'm actually curious whether high, moderate, or low fat is beneficial for the gallbladder. So many people that lose weight have problems, but I wonder whether it's the low fat diets that people frequently use that create problems, or whether dietary fat intake has no bearing and that it is some other mechanism at work...
  23. I bet he was just calculating in his head about whether that should be a problem. He must have decided it was ok, or he would have said something. He may have been making a mental note to check more into it too. Feel free to ask him about it next time On a personal note, my brother also had the condition as an infant, but it never gave him issues later in life. (He wasn't a wls patient though). Does make a good story. Mom took him to the doctor's several times before they believed her..puke everywhere!
  24. 2 months out.. I weigh every day and keep a mental note. Each Monday I write down the lowest # I saw on the scale over the last week. My weight fluctuates a lot on a day to day basis, but I am noticing a pattern.
