  1. No, I believe you. I could tell you seemed knowlegable. Did I give in too quickly?
  2. Rest it until no longer painful. Several days, no running. Try looking up the yoga lotus position. That is a good stretch.
  3. Oh wow, I had no idea! I'll not make any plans for the forseeable future. I also am an O donor, so it is a shame. I'll try to get my hubby to take my place
  4. Limited foods won't kill you. Protein, Vitamins, and Water along with what you can eat will do just fine.
  5. When I was pregnant, I once ate a regular sized whole jar in a 4 hour sitting. Lol. I also love peanut butter (obviously). This morning I tried the quest peanut butter protein powder. Pretty good! That might be a decent replacement for you.
  6. There is a relationship between vit D deficiency and obesity. Vit. D is fat soluble, and I think the adipose tissue tends to suck it up and hold it, keeping blood levels low. Surgery would likely help your comorbidities and help you live a healthier life. But, only you can determine whether feeling good or looking good is more important for YOU. I told my MIL about the surgery, and my projected weight loss might get me to 200lbs (I am 300lbs). I said I'd be happy with that. She is currently 250lbs, and said flat out, that she wouldn't be happy with that! If you saw her, she is as apple shape as possible. 50lbs would be miraculous off her! But she is 75 and not a candidate for surgery, so a moot point. My real point is everyone is different with their priorities. You do you!
  7. Most patients that are having a normal recovery won't lose too much weight. Being female, your body might want to lose another 10-25lbs, or more, depending on your height. But, if you want to stop losing, you need to increase your calories.. but not junk. Lean proteins, healthy fats, and complex carbohydrates will get you there.
  8. Order water during the drink ordering. Either sip it, or leave it untouched, depending on your eating rules. Request your companion order something you can eat and share, or just order a cup of soup (unless you want leftovers...which can be irritating when traveling). Some restaurants have a minimum order per person (no sharing policy). Resign yourself to spending the minimum, but you can still share! The main thing, is remember you are there to have good conversation and socialization. Don't call attention to your food selection, and all will be well.
  9. A typical person can eat ONE brownie or baby cone of ice cream (take the cone and fill it to the top without going over the top). I think where most of us got into trouble was eating 4 brownies (or the whole pan), and always ordering a large ice cream. After hitting maintenance, try a normal amount. If it sets up the cravings or weight gain, then that won't work for you. While still losing, sweets should be either a spoonful or off limits. "Healthy" sweets are a problem for me because they tend to taste more like food, and I eat more of it... so much so it would have been better to have had a small real sweet. Play around with it to see what works for you!
  10. They make toilet seat boosters that raise the level of where you are sitting. They would be found at medical supply places.
  11. The good news is your home makes things more difficult, but should also make recovery better too because you are getting more exercise just doing normal activities. Keep up with the pain meds as prescribed. If you aren't in pain, you'll move more and heal faster. Hope you feel better soon!
  12. Sorry to hear about the injury. Glad it wasn't more serious! Sprains usually feel much better within a month or two. Do you have friends or family that can help with grocery shopping and the like? There are many exercises that can be accomplished from the bed. It is important to keep moving for blood flow and clot prevention. Get creative! The good news is with the surgery, you will keep losing weight even without hitting the gym right away. Weight loss will help your mobility, as long as you keep moving as much as possible. If you don't move, your muscles will atrophy within weeks. Keep using your walker, and try to at least walk around inside the house several times a day. Make goals. If you can't walk at all, practice getting up and standing, sit down, and repeat. Day 1, do it once or twice an hour. Day 2, do two or three times an hour. Etc. You are going to do great!
  13. Every surgeon is different, but for your sake, I would do a self-imposed diet between now and then. Starting tomorrow, drink 3-4 protein shakes a day and tons of calorie free liquids like water. The shakes need at least 20g of protein each and almost no carbs or fat. A scoop of protein powder in skim milk will work. The day before surgery go on clear liquids only. No protein shakes. This is to clean out your intestines. Then fast as per doc's instructions. Cleaning out your intestines will help with comfort after the surgery. Your intestines take a day or two to wake up after anesthesia, and food sitting in them will create gas, etc. Good luck!
  14. Alternative protein sources are veggie based. Beans and the like. Try that too..
  15. At only 2 weeks out I wouldn't worry about it. Just mention next time you have a regular visit. Have fun with the crunchy coldness!
  16. Get your fluids up. Could try flat diet ginger ale and peppermint tea. Probiotics and fiber will help with bowel regularity. Protein takes a ton of liquid to digest, so increasing fluids might help. Milk, if tolerated, can give both. Protein also needs acid to digest, but then too much acid causes problems. Any sense whether you have too much or little acid? Apple cider vinegar could be helpful. I'd dilute it in plenty of water or it would set you on fire. Of course, your doctor might have other ideas. Hope something helps!
  17. I might pass y'all at the airport. I'm arriving on the 20th!
  18. Try to find another doctor for a second opinion.
  19. How much loose skin do you have? If it is a lot, you actually may be at goal weight. Your sudden craving for simple carbs is your body's way of telling you it has started coming close to running out of reserves. *possibly* The weight loss could be muscle losses if you aren't eating protein as well. Eat protein, green vegetables, and add starchy veggies. Potatoes and sweet potatoes, winter squash, beans, lentils, etc. Start with 50g of carbs, and increase by 5-10 grams a day. Doing this methodically should tell you where your sweet spot is. You might get up to 100g or 150g a day. Watch your weight, appetite, energy levels, etc. Foggy head might mean you need more vitamins too. Good luck!
  20. The stomach still has open wounds until 8-9 weeks out. Personally I wouldn't pour alcohol into an open wound! Granted stomach acid is more caustic, but still... why take a chance?
  21. What types of foods aren't bothering you? As always, keep your gallbladder as a possibility in your mind. Have you been having regular BMs? Getting enough fluids?
  22. At 3 months, that is a problem. See your doctor.
  23. Great! Thanks guys. I definitely plan on waiting 6 months or a year to make sure I'm healthy. My Iron normally runs a bit borderline low, so I'll pay extra attention to that.
  24. I had to cancel my donation because it was too close to my surgery date. Does anyone know if/when I can donate again in the future? Didn't know if bariatric patients have contraindications for donating...
  25. Sorry you didn't have a reply to this. Good luck during your procedure! You'll be fine!
