  1. Hello everyone I’m just in need of some advice I’m planning my wls for next month in Mexico and the Docter I’m going with has a 500 dollar fee for a BMI over 50 and I really don’t want to pay the fee so I decided to put myself on a one month low carb or liquid diet at the moment I’m on a low-carb diet only because I won’t be able to buy Protein Shakes until Thursday then I’ll just do the Protein shakes alone. I need to lose 34 pounds by next month. I’m not sure if it is possible but I would like some advice on what I can do to and would love to hear from other people to learn how they got through it

Try fasting. I lost 17lbs during my 5 day fast.

  2. Actually I was in the pre op information session when the call came. I had to sit there for two hours wondering what the news would be lol. I had read a lot about denials and things like that so I was surprised to hear back so quickly that I was approved on the first try.
All we can do is what is required regarding documentation and hope that we get the decision that we need. Don’t lose sight. I’ve struggled the past month with “ I may not get to eat this again” syndrome. It’s stressful waiting and wondering but don’t let it get you.

How brutal! I would have been on edge the entire two times waiting to hear what they had to say.
You’re absolutely right, I will def try to keep that in mind. My holy grail is lemon Water. If I can’t put fresh lemon in my water after surgery I literally will die. Well, not literally but I’d still be slightly disappointed lol

  3. My papers were submitted to insurance on Friday(11/10).

My NUT says surgery will be 2-3 months from the day of submittal. So, at the very latest I should be having surgery in mid February.

I had a surgery buddy. Our appointments were days apart, as we started the program within a week of each other. I found her on a Facebook bariatric page. Well, long story short, she has dropped out of the race and in turn I no longer have a surgery buddy. Or really even a bariatric friend. I never thought to make more friends than her and I should have. I no longer feel comfortable confiding in her about how my appointment went or about anything bariatrics honestly, as I feel I’m rubbing it in her face.

I am keeping the surgery discrete, so to have someone else who is going through the same as me surgery wise is crucial to me.

I am trying to cram over half a year worth of small talk and acquaintanceship into a few weeks. So please know before responding, that I will be moving fast. Like, we need to become best friends In 8 weeks.

I’m 27, I live in the Midwest and am opting for the bypass.

  4. Hi there! I was able to get down 7 lbs and I was fine! Basically drank Water and ate very little for 3 days - like only coffee, a Protein Shake and a tiny cucumber/tomato/vinegar salad. I also did a 4-day cleanse. I didn't eat a thing the day I had to weigh and my appt wasn't until 230pm! I told the NUT what I had done and she said she really wished they didn't stress people with the "not a pound over initial consult weight" thing. She said it's more so people don't gain 15-25 lbs more during the pathway and that a few lbs doesn't make so much of a difference.

Still, I'm not sure if it was a significant factor for insurance authorization or not. On paper, I was the same weight as my initial consult so didn't have any issues. (I was only 1 lb over so she just recorded the same weight I was at my initial consult.)

That's great! I'm so glad it all worked out for you :-) What 4 day cleanse did you do?

  5. I had the sleeve and didn't meet it. Idk if they felt sorry for me because I lost my dad or if my thyroid issues played a role. BUT, I did lose 15lbs on the 2 week preop diet but I was supposed to have lost 10lbs by my last appt before surgery and did not.

I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. My very best condolences.

So even though you hadn't lost the weight they let you carry on through out the program as normal?
    Like it didn't halt anything?

  6. Yeah I had to do a 6 month nutritional counseling too and the psych evaluation. My psych evaluation consisted of filling out long questionnaires...then a conversation with psychologist. Easy, breezy..one appt. Nothing further. My big deal I object to strongly is having to submit..after aaaaalllll the many hoops I've jumped through over 8 months, to a colonoscopy and endoscopy I have to be completely under anesthesia for! Good grief. Why?
My husband & adult children are now objecting to my even having the surgery at all now.
Anyway..you'll do fine on the psych part.

May I ask why you have to do a colonoscopy and a
endoscopy? Is it like a surgeons preference or insurance requirement?

  7. My behavioral evaluation was a packet of 600 questions asking if I'm "likely or less likely" to do things. Kinda like an aptitude for a job. [emoji58]

See that's what I did during the 2nd appointment. The first appointment was just talking. I don't get it. I completed the whole telling her my life story AND the 300 question test packet. What else does she want from me [emoji30]

  8. I am 3 weeks away from my final nutritionist appointment. My insurance requires 6 months of a supervised diet with a nutritionist.

I have yet to meet my surgeon. I chose a surgeon with the head nurse in charge of my case back in February.

My nutritionist told me my last appointment will consist of a final weigh in, urine sample for nicotine cessation and a visit with the psychologist for a behavioral evaluation. But no mention of meeting the surgeon yet.

When can I expect to at the very least get a glimpse of the surgeon?

  9. I am 3 weeks away from my final nutritionist appointment. My insurance requires 6 months of a supervised diet with a nutritionist.

She(NUT) told me my last appointment will consist of a final weigh in, urine sample for nicotine cessation and a visit with the psychologist for a behavioral evaluation. I have already had two insurance required appointments with the psychologist at the beginning of this process. I was under the impression that once I finished both appointments I'd be done with the psychologist aspect of the requirements.

what is this 3rd appointment with the psychologist for?

    What is a "Behavioral evaluation"?
