What a great accomplishment. Can you share any difficulties you have had with any foods, etc? I have my first consultation in 2 weeks with the surgeon and am nervous. Was thinking of Gastric sleeve but I have reflux so bypass may be better. Thanks! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

This where I am right now too. I have my first appointment with the doctor in 2 weeks. I though for sure I wanted the sleeve (seemed less invasive, less traumatic to the digestive process, and I don't like the idea of possible vitamin issues, anemia, etc.). However, i didn't realize that if you have reflux that the sleeve is not the best option. I learned that in the seminar I had to attend before I could move on in the process. That's a concern for me because I also don't want to have a revision but the idea of bypass really makes me more nervous. What to do???

Hi, I'm so happy to have found this forum. I've been doing a lot of research and just attended the informational session for my local program with my initial consult in 2 weeks. I really prefer the idea of the VGS over the bypass to try an minimize the issues that malabsorption can cause in the short and long term both medically and lifestyle wise. I thought for me it was a no brained until I learned about the connection between the surgeries and reflux. I have reflux and have been on low dose omeprazole (20 mg/day) for about 7 years. I don't mind having to take medication for it. I was wondering if anyone here had reflux before surgery and still opted for the VGS over bypass? Do you have any major reflux problems that are significantly worse than pre-surgery? I appreciate everyone's input. It's such a hard thing to work out when really, I know from my research that there is no single universal experience. Thanks!
