    Surgery Buddies Summer 2017

Mjfx2- To be honest, I haven't lost any weight [emoji53]. I have been logging my food with My Fitness Pal and using my Fitbit to try and get between 10 and 15 thousand steps a day. They don't have a certain amount I need to lose, I just need to not gain. I am struggling more than ever to lose any. Without my crash dieting or fad diets , I just seem to flounder. My nutritionist thinks my diet is pretty good with the exception of portion size and snacking with evening snacking on cheese and wine.... he believes my metabolism is screwy from all my yrs of yoyo dieting.... I can't wait to finally have a solution.! Keep me updated on what your dr has you do.... i have been replacing breakfast with premier protien a couple days a week

    Surgery Buddies Summer 2017

I will be having my surgery in July (fingers crossed!). My 6 month supervised diet will be done in March. I am waiting until July because I have so many obligations this spring that I can't risk not feeling well. I will have to have one last pcp visit 30 days before they will try for aporoval. I am so nervous of gaining any of the weight back between March and July. I have never been very good at keeping weight off! Very afraid of self sabotage.... Glad to meet you all! I hope we will all be successful. It will be great to have people at the same point!

  6. Pittsburgh, PA I won't be having my RNY until July, but it is so nice to see other people's successes! I can't wait to have some of my own.

    EGD

I am glad your polyps were benign! Today was your day... wishing you well!
  8. I am 45 years old and am planning my RNY for July. My mom is 65 and having her lap band converted to RNY in March. I am a champ at losing weight, but like so many others, it always returns. At 45 I am ready to stop the cycle... I am certainly not getting any healthier! I agree that the health issues are more of what motivates many of us 'older' folks. Before I started this journey I had no inkling that I had sleep apnea, GERD and Barret's esophagus! I hope that this will save me from becoming sick in the future... my bmi is 38 and I initially started for vanity ( that sounds terrible) but my motivation is geared towards health and having a future free of obesity related problems! Thanks for reading this... I am new around here and this got kind of wordy!

    EGD

I had my EGD in November and found that I had Barrett's esophagus (cell changes that can change into cancer, this is caused by acid erosion) and I never had what I thought was severe GERD. Just occasional heartburn. This diagnosis makes me not a candidate for the sleeve. I was really shocked and more than a little upset because I had decided on the sleeve, not the RNY. Since then, I have come to terms with it and am grateful that I started on this path, I likely wouldn't have been diagnosed at all and who knows where that could have led. I feel good about the choice if RNY now because it will hopefully make my GERD a non issue and allow my lower esophagus to heal. I plan on having surgery in July even though I would qualify for April, I have a ton of stuff going on in the spring and can't take the chance of not feeling well.
  10. Hi there! I am a preop RNY, 45 year old female 5'5" and my starting weight was 230. I know that in the bariatric world that is on the lower end, but I have not been able to shake this weight but for a few months maybe 4x since my 20s. I can diet but it ALWAYS returns. I have been dx'd sleep Apnea, GERD and Barrett's and not to mention that my job comes with a weight restriction ..... anyways.... My 6 month visit rolls around 3/17 making me likely to be able to schedule my surgery for April. I am looking for opinions, my daughter graduates from HS this spring and her party is June2. We are leaving for a 10 day cruise 6 days after that. Would you have surgery in April, or wait until July? This would put me about 8wks post op and leaving the country, not to mention the food and drink associated with a cruise. I don't intend to gorge myself by any means, but I am afraid that being that close to my surgery might make me a little less fun to travel with. I am so conflicted. I am so ready for this change but afraid that in the early months after surgery it would be a bad idea. This vacation was scheduled long ago and there are many people committed, so changing wouldn't be an option. Thanks in advance for your insight!

    45...preop, would you wait?

Thank you all so much for your thoughts. I am really leaning towards waiting because of the exact reasons msujester, Munky and Rhonda mentioned. It is just hard waiting and I am so excited to make changes! I am glad that I found this forum because I could use some folks who are in the same boat. So, thank you all!
