YAY! I'm 6 weeks post-op today and I can wear my size 16 jeans that I haven't fit into in probably 4-5 years!!! I am so happy with my progress and my doctor said he is impressed also because he was only expecting me to have lost 5-6 pounds from my 2 week check-up, but I lost 11! Some people are losing faster than me, but hey, as long as that scale is going down, I'm okay with any loss! I'm now released from all restrictions and I can go to the gym and start lifting and toning and doing more than just walking nowhere on that dang treadmill!
Another NSV for me lately is that I can walk up 2 flights of stairs and not get winded! Before I would try to walk up 2 flights at once and be huffing and puffing and feeling like an elephant was standing on my chest, not to mention my knees and legs hurting and feeling like spaghetti.
Y'all have a great weekend! My family and I are all going fishing on Sunday so hopefully we'll catch something other than a sunburn!

41 minutes ago, Pescador said:My personal opinion is that was way too much food, dense food. I remember eating a tsp of refried Beans when allowed. They tend to gas up your stomach. If you jump back into this kind of food like baked potatoes you will watch the scale creep up. Take advantage of eating little right now because it is great. A time will come when you will stop losing and gain, especially if you eat like this. I have hardly any restriction now and I am back to dieting after putting back on 30 lbs in 4 years. I eat no bread, potatoes, sweets or carbs.
I have plans of no bread, potatoes, or Pasta after I am on full solids. I was just going by what my nutritionist told me to try first. I will be going back to liquids and try again in a few days, but stay away from the carbs. Thanks!

Try low carb purees. If you keep eating carbs like that you are going to have a hard time losing long term.
This makes sense. The only reason I switched to those foods is because this is what my nutrition told me to try. She said these foods are usually the easiest tolerated. I know I want to do without carbs altogether for the most part when I am on full solids. I will go back to liquids and ease back into purees later, but not carbs! Thanks so much!

I am 9 days out and having some trouble. I was so excited a couple of days ago because I was going to be able to switch to puree foods. I was weighing in at 234 which was a full 10 pounds down from surgery day. On day 8, I tried some refried Beans pureed with some salsa. I was able to eat about 1/2 cup. It was divine! Later that day I was able to try some thinned out mash potatoes and they didn't sit well. Well last night I tried some baked potato and I ate way too much too quickly and then I immediately regretted it. After dealing with that, I was just ready to go back to liquids. I drank a Protein Shake before bed in hopes that I wouldn't get woke up by my stomach "cramping" this morning. Well, it still happened. I am trying my best to get in as much Water as possible during the day. I had severe gas pains this morning and I thought I was done with those, but undoubtedly this is going to be an ongoing issue. To make me feel even worse, I weighed myself this morning and I'm up to 238. I am just not having a great day and I need some encouragement please. Please tell me this gets better and I am going to be able to advance to purees again.

Everything happens for a reason! It may just seem like the doctor is wasting your time and money, but there is a reason your wait has been extended! Just relax and confide in HIM. Pray and do not cease! I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers!

So close!!! How exciting! I can't wait until I'm that close and ready to pick a date!
Well, I'm done with my 6 months doctor approved whatever. I was just approved a few days ago for the surgery but I still have all these appointments to go to before we can schedule surgery. The date I want is tentative.Well, by the time I get everything done and have my physician monitored weight loss appts as required by insurance, it'll be 6 months that I've had to wait. So I'm just muddling along with all my other stuff. Shooting for a summer surgery date!

It might be costs for nutrition classes I have to pay for them. I have Aetna better health insurance. I also have to purchase Protein shakes, five shakes per day for my pre op to help the liver shrink so they can see the stomach better. My surgeon charged $130 for everything we need for those 2 weeks preop. I don't know what it consists of, but I will be purchasing it once I have my testing done.

I have told close family, a few friends, and a couple of co-workers, but that's it. When I told a couple of my co-workers, they immediately started trying to talk me out of it and telling me horror stories about their family/friends that had gastric bypass and almost died. They told me I just need to diet and exercise. I was like "What do you think I have been doing ALL my life??" Those things have put me where I am today... because I failed horribly at dieting and exercising and now I am the biggest I have ever been! I feel keeping it a secret for the most part is going to benefit me and keep me sane because not everyone is going to agree with me and that's okay.

I chose John Touliatos here in Birmingham, AL. He did my co-workers VSG and after meeting with him and working with his staff, I feel I made a good choice. He asked me personal questions at our meeting and agreed with most of what I said. I felt extremely comfortable around him.

So, my PCP suggested I see the surgeon. I am 225lbs 5'4. I have high blood pressure that I just can not seem to get under control with the medication. The medication makes me feel awful and I am on 3 different pills. My mother passed away from complications due to HTN at age 45 and the closer I get to 45 (I am 39), the more anxiety I have. Well, I saw the surgeon yesterday and he said I can start the process! I spoke with the Financial/Insurance person. She says I meet the criteria set by my insurance company (Aetna-Innovation Health). She said that it is a fairly simple process for my insurance company. I have to have a psych eval due to me taking Zoloft for anxiety (I am a veteran) and take the 90 day supervised nutrition class which I start on next Wednesday the 14th. I also have to have an upper G I, which I will do in a couple of months. I can't believe that I am getting this opportunity. I have struggled with my weight for so long, I had almost given up on ever getting control of it. I also have to stop smoking, I haven't smoked in 2 days but I pray this isn't going to be a big challenge. I asked myself, "Do you wanna ruin this opportunity for yourself or do you want to take charge of your life?" I know I can do it! Soooooo.......lets see how this goes!
I have to quit smoking myself and even though I don't smoke a whole lot, I do enjoy a cig when I drink. I know I won't be drinking for a while after surgery so I guess I need to get it over with now! Best of luck to you and we can do this!!!!

What is a swallow test
Sent from my SM-J700T using the BariatricPal App
@@msjessy323, from what I have read, the swallow test is when they test your sleeve to make sure you don't have any leaks. This has to be done before you can leave the hospital.

Oh goodness! I didn't get told a time for my classes or appointments, but they did want to do everything in 1 day. That day is February 17! I thought me having to wait 2 months for surgery was going to be torture.. how are you dealing with the wait??

You may need to try a different mask. I didn't really like the mask they initally tried on me because it covered my entire nose. I did get a mask that has like the oxygen mask things that go up the nose and it did take some getting use to, but now, I can't sleep without it! My apnea score is 13.. what was yours?

I have BCBS of Alabama and my coordinator faxed all my paper work last Thursday and I got the call Tuesday afternoon that she had gotten an approval letter. So I guess 3-4 days for us?

Yes, I hit the stall around 3 weeks but again at 6 weeks. I'm now 7.5 weeks out and my weight hasn't changed since beginning of week 6. Actually, it went up a few pounds which really had me stressing. Now it's back to where it was, but hopefully it will start going down again!
