    I'm 60 +

Hey Gloria, so how are you doing? I,m 66 and looking at August for mine. I was worried about age also, but anything would be better than living like this (or yikes even maybe getting worse) for the rest of my life. Tired of being tired, can't breathe, can't really even exercise much. Did you have any problems or suggestions? Good luck
  6. That's the place I want to be is even if I can, I won't want to. Let's hope [emoji18]

    Going into week 5

I see you have lost 26 lbs. though. Congrats on that. Be glad you can have real food now. Keep doing what you've been doing. This could just be a stall. Think of the 26 and give the scale a break. You,ve got this.

Where do you find root beer flavor packs? I've only seen the reg flavor so around this rural town
  11. I wasn't very clear. What I meant was the ultimate goal for me to get to would be to have a plate with 3oz. Meat, 1/2 c veg. Portion of carb and actually believe and feel that is a meal. I know I am years from that, but I'm trying to get my head around it now in smaller doses. I have to be honest, that would look kind of a snack right now. But I have at times recently noticed more the real amount of what I've been eating. That's why I said I will only put in front of me the amt. I should be eating not what I want. Because if I have it in front of me , not for long. I need a whole headset before I start to give me a boost. No buffets, journal, weigh. And to vets, I have learned so much from y'all on here just browsing. Thank you and don't stop
  12. Lynne, I can't give good advice as I won't have my surgery till August, but I sure have a lot of experience "dieting". It doesn't work and never will, because we "feel" restricted. As a human [emoji18] I do not like to be restricted. Here is what I plan on doing , but we all know what our plans do. I have been thinking a lot and self talking about my way of life. I don't want to eat different. I want to eat normal. I used to laugh when I would buy WW dinners, etc. and tell my hubby I can save money and lose weight doing it myself and only eat a nickel size helping of everything. I now realize the dinners were normal. I was not. So once I get through the initial parts of healing, etc. I would like to be able to eat healthy, yet eat all. I am not going to put extra food on table or my plate. I don't want to know "if" I can eat 8 ozs, etc. I only want to know my choices. Going to try not to tempt myself to see if at some point I actually do believe in my heart that I am happy and satisfied. I have been working on this and I did find if I don't drink when I eat, I lost 12 lbs in 10 days. It shocked me. It has slowed down now but that is going to be my main rule. Of course, I don't know if I will ever "think" or feel like all this is just my normal thinking, because I haven't been there yet. I can only hope and try my best and not sabotage myself. After 6 mos. I plan on going to counseling just to see where I stand. I already made the appt. I mean heck my thinking alone hasn't worked so far, so maybe new eyes will help. Good luck to you all. Just some thoughts. Thanks for letting me vent
  13. Good for you for seeing this before it was out of hand. I haven't had my surgery yet to give you any pointers, but if you were a moderator, I'm sure you helped a lot of newbies. Just make yourself a newbie, and don't be afraid to listen to yourself or other vets. Sounds to me like you've been a strong person. You've got this.

    I'm 60 +

Hi Paula, My name is Penny and I just turned 66. I will be sleeved in August. I'm going into my 4th month of the 6 mo. Requirements. Have all my clearances done except for the endoscopy. Guess the surgeon is going to go ahead and do a colonoscopy at the same time. Then it's just a matter of getting my last 2 nut and support in. I guess I'm a little nervous cause of age and my health problems, but that's why I'm doing it. Hope everything goes well. Keep us posted and I will check back also. Oh, I am from Pa.

    Any 2017 60'ish sleever's out there?

Having my sleeve July or August. 65 from pa.

    Not expected...roux n y

Hi all, I am getting sleeved in July or August and have been looking into how things have worked out for us older ones. I am 65 and have all but 2 of my requirements and clearances. Only person who has any concerns is my cardiologist. Doesn't really like me having the surgery 2 hrs away from him in case of problems on table. The hospital for my bariatric doesn't really have a cardiac unit. They tell me they have done the surgery on people with my stats, but are going to call my cardiologist to see what all his concerns are. My dr. Would prefer it be done in Erie. So I guess we shall see. It is changing my outlook, however, and I don't like worrying about it. Of course my eating habits are affected also, and I have been doing so well with that. It's not totally out of hand yet, but I can see the slippery slope coming if all this isn't resolved soon. I just don't want to start all over, which really I shouldn't have to, since both hospitals are same company, just different towns, Erie being the bigger one worth everything there. They actually have taken very good care of me there on previous heart problems. Sorry so long winded. Thanks for letting me vent.

    Banders #7

HI all, For the past couple days, l have been reading some wonderful and helpful posts on this thread. Seems to be a very nice bunch here. However, even though I have some of the same emotional battles as some here, I have not posted as I am planning on being sleeved. This thread showed up on trending, by the way. Sadly, I could not understand why a person who had just been banded and had some valid questions, would have been "nicely" requested to post somewhere else. She was banded. Hence "banders 7" and since just recently maybe had 100 plus to go. I would think it was a very nice compliment that someone thought enough of your posts to ask think you were just the ones that could help her. I had read more than 250 of your insightful posts (guess just nosy) but will no more. I'm sure I won't be missed since I'm only going to be sleeved. But if ever someone needs emotional support from me, I will be there, no matter what the title reads. Not being snarky, just food for thought.

Over 60 and having the sleeve

Hi, well, saw my cardiologist in Erie Thurs. His major concern was where I,m having it. Good hospital and Drs, but no cardiac unit. 2 hr drive by ambulance. But he is only going to give moderate concerns for me, so it will be up to me. Since it is same hospital, just different city, I think I am going to see if they will accept my clearances, etc. and take me into their program. I have 5 more mos. to wait, but have already got almost all the clearances except a couple. Also have my weight loss going good. I hope so, because I will have second thoughts now if they won't. I have some blockages that cannot be fixed as too dangerous. So I guess we'll see. Wish me luck. Happy for all of you.

    Pre Op feeling of FAILURE

Jane, This is so funny as I was just talking the other night about fastin. (Didn't realize they still make it) I was 26 yrs, weighed 127 @ 5'6". Not a fat on my body. But I ate and ate and.....so I worked in a hospital kitchen where we knew Drs pretty well. One day, I asked mine, is it normal to eat like this (other people were always surprised at how much I ate). he says you don't seem to be putting on weight. I'm like, no I' not. (Duh) but I felt heavy. HE GAVE ME FASTINS. I had a plant in my window that was all rooted and had been wanting to part out for a couple of years. At 3a.m. My hubby comes downstairs and says what r u doing? I had newspapers laid all over the floor. 23 pots of dirt and plants sitting on floor with me. I did not take another one. But now as I think back, what was going on? Why did I feel that way? It was 20 yrs before I started to gain weight and gain and gain and... You get the picture. So was I predisposed? Or because I was in abusive relationship, or was it from childhood when food was tight and we ate our "filling" meals? I never gained till I was out of abuse. Anyone have similar or ideas on this. It still bugs me. I felt fat, but omg, I didn't even know the definition. I am into 2nd week of my 6 mo. Pre- op, looking at July or August. I am so looking forward to feeling better and if the only benefit is making my knees and back better I'll be happy, although I do have cad and type 2 diabetes, copd. So I will be sharing my journey Best of days Sissie
