  1. I'm drinking Powerade Zero because not only is it on "the allowed liquids post op list" my surgeon gave me, but I think it saved me from becoming really dehydrated since I had trouble getting all of the fluids in constantly! When I had to drink every 15 minutes in Stage 2 I got behind a lot unless my whole world revolved around concentrating on those 1oz cups- filling three with Water and 2 with Protein shakes and drinking them 15mins. apart every hour! I'm so glad I'm past all that!! Starting tomorrow I'm going to just drink Water now that I'm on top of this for the most part and incorporating soft foods.

  2. My Stage 3 what to expect sheet says that "vomiting is almost always related to eating. Slow down! All of the following could cause vomiting: eating too fast, not chewing well, eating too much, eating foods not soft enough too soon, drinking liquids with food, drinking with a straw, lying down after a meal, or eating foods you do not tolerate." I hope that helps you!

  3. Thank-you, Linda! I will approach with extreme caution and wait until at least 4 months out (I'm only at 12 days!) before I try any kind of bread. I didn't eat much bread unless I ate pizza or a sandwich post op anyway, and even then I left the outside crust uneaten and always ate anything but white bread and usually toasted it for sandwiches. I really won't miss bread that much, I was just curious if anyone could eat it!

  4. Everyone would worry if you weren't nervous, it's a life altering major surgery! Numbergurl37 had a short but powerful reply! It was rough at first but every day got exponentially better for me and I'm so-ooo glad I went through with it!!! It's amazing and a wonderful tool. Just keep reading and asking here and you will know we all support you and will be with you

  5. SeaShells82- VERY good points made and I forgot about your #1 point so thanks for filling in an important gap! I'm glad you responded and you write very well. I didn't see any mentions of alcohol, and it's a pretty pertinent subject, so we may have saved someone from making a miserable mistake by bringing it up! Take care of yourself always

  6. This is a great thread to open! I had my RNY on January the third so I'm almost ready (my body that is, my mind was ready last week!) for solid food finally. I am really hungry and can hardly wait to actually eat something that will stick to my ribs a bit longer as the shakes aren't lasting long enough anymore. I do want to give my pouch time to heal, but my body is telling me that 370 calories a day is not enough. Especially if I get up fast, bend over, or go for a walk- I get light-headed and very weak!

  7. I know this is a big no-no, and I'm not a big drinker anyway, but why is alcohol so bad post-op? Is it because it takes up room in the pouch where the good stuff with Vitamins and nutrients should go? Is it because the pouch is sensitive to alcohol and the healing process is impeded? Is it because the sugar content will more than likely cause dumping? Maybe it's all of these things, I just wanted some feedback so we could help each other make educated choices instead of just following the rest of the herd. Or even worse drink alcohol without knowing what can happen!

  8. 9 days post op and I have lost 13lbs!!! I'm finally getting all my liquids down and I'm gaining strength every day. I am having some pretty heavy mood swings, but my husband has been so supportive! He's losing weight as well since I'm not eating a bunch of bad stuff or wanting to eat out or bring crap home. I'm really looking forward to eating food next week!!!

  9. I'm now getting all of my Protein shakes in and all of my Water in as well, so I feel much better! I think it is so important to especially get the Water requirements in because my lips were getting really dry and cracked like I was becoming dehydrated! The only "problem" now is I am hungry in the evenings when I have already finished all of my shakes so I guess I'll just drink some more shake or eat a sugar free popsicle. Just 5 more days and I can start eating the fork tender stuff!!

  10. We all start at different weights and have different goals. I agree with LipstickLady and I worry for her health. It also makes me sad that she would let her profession keep her in the chains of obesity! I worry for her mental health and self-image as well. I wish her the best of all life has to offer and the freedom to chose what makes her the happiest!!
