  1. Perfectly normal to be scared. Your surgeon has done this a lot and has seen everything, so not to worry. My surgery was very easy, minimal pain after waking. Nausea only when I took morphine so stuck to tylenol. Walking day one. Stopped pain med day two. By end of week one, it didn't even feel like I'd had surgery. Only discomfort was the drain and once that was out it was smooth sailing. You wil do great and wish you all the best.

  2. I have been exploring WLS for 10 years. Kept backing out for various reasons. Cancelled in August because I just couldn't get my mind around doing something so dramatic that I should be able to do on my own. Almost cancelled 3 days before my surgery but my nurse talked me down and I read a lot of success stories and...

Had surgery on January 9. Went very smoothly. Very little pain or gas. Was able to eat without much nausea. Nausea only happened with Morphine. Eating and drinking fine. Walking on day 1. Home 2 days later. Eating is fine, exercise fine, no pain. Stopped pain meds 1 day before leaving hospital. Only annoyance was incision drain. Very sore by the time I had removed yesterday. Removal was easy, and feel so much better now.

So...I tell you all this because I was so torn about doing this. The surgery was easy, I feel fine and it doesn't even feel like I had surgery. I did this more for health and less for looks, but both will benefit. I was down 11 pounds in one week. I encourage anyone who is wavering to hang in there and do your research. You will get through it and you will be glad you did.

  3. I'm now on day 8 and agree with you about the early diet. However, I'm now on full liquid and have eaten great cream Soups (had red lentil last night and it was amazing). I buy the organic ones in the pourable containers and they last a few days. Went to our beach club on Saturday and had vichyssoise which was delicious. I have also had thinned cream of wheat and thinned mashed potatoes which were great. I might have been a little early on that but it went down fine. I also have Greek yogurt with a touch of honey and cinnamon. I hate the Protein Shakes but Unjury is fine and Ensure high Protein is good (vanilla is delicious) and my NUT said it was fine. pudding too but getting burned out on that and Jello. Moving to soft foods on Thursday and can't wait. Wishing you the best.

  4. Hi, Curly. I was plagued with anxiety, and cancelled surgery in August. As my new date of Jan. 9 was approaching, I was even more anxious after a less than stellar education session with people I really didn't relate to. My husband wanted me to try something else. The thing that really helped me was to speak with my nurse, who also had the surgery, and to read success stories. In particular, there is a thread by JerseyJules who cancelled surgery while he was being given his IV and is now back after 2 years not having been able to do it on his own. I can tell you that I was completely calm on Monday, my surgery went extremely well, I had minimal pain and only was nauseous when I got morphine, which I stopped taking and just used liquid tylenol. Didn't need much. liquids were fine, walking was easy and gas was really not bad. I feel fortunate to have had such a smooth experience. No one was more panicked than I, except maybe Jules, but reading his post and all of the supportive responses really helped.

    Wishing you all the best!!
