    surgery tomorrow

Hello, YES, I am scared. Mine is Jan 31, 2017. I'm on here to keep me occupied. lol I worry about pain, the intibation (sp?) which they say you wake up with and I hate stuff like that. They will take it out once they see you can breath on your own. Plus, you can't have Water or ice chips for that whole day until the next day after the leak test. I love water. Anyway, I just want to get through it and the first week or two. I think it will be better when you can puree food and eat it if you can. I get scared and actually am morbid thinking what if something bad happens. I have had other surgeries such as tummy tuck, breast lift and reduction, 2 C sections, etc and never worried so much. Old age and worrying...lol Best of luck to all.

    Surprising Reality of WLS

I am looking at all your stats and think you all have done wonderfully well. My surgery is Jan. 31, 2017, two days away. I would be happy to lose 10 pounds a month. Some of you have done that and more. On pre opt so far I have lost 12.6 pounds it's just melted away but I could never do this past two weeks. I am weak and tired and after awhile the shakes get to taste lousy. I bought bariatric cream Soups and they have helped but tired of them too. Jello here and there and Popsicle. I like Water so Crystal Light etc is not for me. I think you are all right about losing having tried all my life and successful many times only to regain it. I know on Weight Watchers I would lose but it was 2 steps forward, 1 back. Some times you would lose the times you ate more and not when you were good and visa versa so our bodies are so complex. I, also, noticed it helped if I changed up my menu and not eat the same thing all the time cause your body gets used to it. As well, eat less, one day, more another and it seems to help the body lose. I'm not expert because here I am tired at 61+ wanting to lose and be able to walk around and travel in retirement. less back aches, less pain from osteoarthritis, etc. I am praying I can lose with this surgery. I have about 100 lbs to lose. As long as I'm not hungry I'm ok. Not someone to eat, or binge or junk food. My problem is sedentary even though I walk my whole school pushing a cart as a teacher, and menopause. Perhaps I am a volume eater on the plate and like to snack pretzels at night. Everyone's cross is different. Well, I hope to tell you all how I am doing soon.

    A little sugar that bad?

I use the low sugar cream, 2 T and that's it in one cup of coffee and a Truvia sweetener. I'm pre-op and have lost so I think after surgery should be easier but I don't know about Desserts and restaurant eating yet. I hope to order low carb, high Protein meals at a restaurant and immediately ask for a container to put all the food but 2 or 4 oz in. Actually, I have to ask my nutritionist how much are we to eat at one sitting with the gastric sleeve. I thought it was 2 to 4 oz or 1/2 cup. Even lets say you get lasagna you can still lose if you eat small amounts. I have lost on Weight Watchers before and you can eat real food and lose but this will be way less and you SHOULD feel satisfied. Key word is Should!!!

    Sleeve vs bypass

Hello, My surgery is January 31,so in two days I'm doing the sleeve. On here right now because I can't drink another shake or more Soup. Anyway, I went for the sleeve. When I went for my endoscopy I asked my surgeon why sleeve over bypass? He just said he would not do the bypass on me. At his seminar he pushes the sleeve more but still does the bypass. He mentioned that you need to take Vitamins with both but with the sleeve you absorb more and don't lose essential vitamins, etc as in the bypass. The sleeve may not be around as long but has had wonderful results. Also, the part of the stomach they cut away is what produces the hunger enzymes so you will not be as hungry. Of course you do lose quicker with the bypass but food is absorbed and bypassed where as with the sleeve you eat less because you are not as hungry and you can't or should not or be sick. I have two friends who have done great with the bypass and another friend who has done great with the sleeve. I guess it depends on your bmi or how much you have to lose. I was 276 and with the liquid diet am now 263.4 and I feel I should lose about 100 to 110 pounds. Maybe they do bypass on very large patients needing 200 + to lose. The sleeve is very popular now and the band isn't. Many people are going from the band to the sleeve. I will know soon. I am anxious and scared but I guess that's normal. PS He had a patient talking at the seminar that lost 240 lbs in a year.He is his star pupil but says it's up to you.

    Pre op nausea and tired

Just weak and constipated. Having no carbs makes you tired.
  7. Hello There, Safer than bypass, keep your nutrients, stomach hunger juices have mostly been cut away, smaller stomach. A tool to eat well, and lose weight without the hunger all the time. You still have to not overeat because you can stretch your stomach again. No cutting of the outside of your stomach they do it endoscopicly (sp?) Mine is Jan. 31 next week. I am anxious but want to get it done and start my journey. I have lost 2 lbs on my own and 8 pound on the liquid diet since Jan. 18. I wrote much more but got bumped off my computer but wanted to answer you. Keep reading here on this site and you hear all different stories. Best Wishes!
  8. For me they told me I get my surgery Jan 31, and I don't get the leak test till the next morning. No Water not even ice chips till the next day when they do the x-ray. Torture if u ask me I like my water. ????sonkat5355????

    Cheated on Pre op

My surgeon said liquid diet but my nutritionist said real food rather than Protein bars. I only use 4 Oz of pure cooked chicken breast in my bariatric Soup. Losing every day. Once salad and chicken . ????sonkat5355????
  10. Yes, normal! I've been on the shakes since January 19, 2017. The Protein fills you up a date u drop weight quickly. I can't drink more than 1 or 2 a day plus a bariatric Cream Soup 15 grams protein. I cut up 4 Oz of pure cooked breast meat. Sometimes I have a triple zero yogurt or a sf popsicle. I've lost 8 lbs on liquid and 2 prior to it. I thought I would starve on it but I have nkt. ????sonkat5355????

I need a helpful support team!

I think a face to face support group would be a good idea! Plus, getting a nutrients. I paid to have mine for a year. And this group is so much help. BTW, I think you Remember looking fabulous, so keep it up and try to stay off those burgers. My surgery is Jan 31, 2017 so I can't speak about after surgery and am sure I will have my struggles. Good luck! ????sonkat5355????
  13. Hello, What is the leak test, how do they do it? I'm self pay too but it is a bundle package. Two days In hospital and I guess you go home on the second. My Dr said shots, no pain pump. My friend had hers in June, 4 days hospital and pain pump. Seems every doctor, hospital and patient are different. I just want pain meds if it hurts. Also, I'm afraid of the intubation because when I went for the endoscopy someone told me they keep it in you when u wakeup to make sure you can breath on your own. Yikes, we'll I'm glad I know so I don't panic when I wake up. I had a tummy tuck and when I woke up it was out. That was when I lost a lot of weight on my own over 13 years ago. Wish I had done the sleeve first. Please reply with any answers!???????? ????sonkat5355????

    February Sleevers

I think we all have a bit of apprehension, anxiety, but also happiness that this could be life changing. I think we are all doing the right thing first and foremost for our health, secondly for the ease of walking, sitting, thirdly it will he nice to have clothes that fit or are more stylish. I am retiring in June and just want to travel witho+ut the aches and pains of arthritis. Not that it will go away but it should be better with less wait. Being almost 62 I'm hoping my face doesn't sag too much. Lol. Well I'm a bit scared but happy and happy for all of you. Best of Luck. BTW Jan 31 is my surgery. ???? ????sonkat5355????
  15. Cottage cheese, lean turkey cold cuts, Protein SD Soups. You can buy Protein powder to add protein to your foods. Good Luck! ????sonkat5355????
  16. Good Luck! ????sonkat5355????
  17. I bought a lot of Premier and like the chocolate. To me the strawberry banana was too sweet. Haven't tried my caramel or pure banana. I can say they make you feel full. The colder the better. I have not been able to drink 3 a day. I wish the chocolate was more a dark chocolate so it would not be sweet. I love Bariatric Cream Soups (15 gram protein)for the savory taste at dinner and add 4 Oz of precooked boneless chicken to it. Makes a good dinner. I have coffee on the morning at sip on the shakes all day. Had a sf popsicle th tonight and may have half a shake before bed. Had to buy listening strips because the shakes do leave a bad taste in your mouth. I must say it's freeing not to of cook and not having to blend shakes. ????sonkat5355????
