  1. I have had my band for 1 year almost to the date. Everything had been going well until my last fill. I was filled to tight I was at 9 1/2 cc ( my band only holds 10cc). Well to make a long story short I was vomiting and my voice is hoarse. I had some Fluid removed and my doctor gave me a perscription for my throat. My hoarseness is still here. Has anybody experienced anything along these lines. Its been approx. 3 weeks and my voice is still hoarse. Should I go on liquids or what? Any suggestions?

  2. Hi Celticgirl, Wish I could be a breath of fresh air for you but I cant. Aetna turned down every appeal I made. I did not have any of the four co-morbidities. There pretty strict on that. I tried for my knee's also ive had surgery on one and shots in them both. Athritis is both and aetna still denied me. So on open enrollment I switched health insurances. Medical Mutual has a co-morbidities for joints. Im waiting on my answer as we speek. Hope Ive helped you. Just remeber aetna goes strictly by the book. You have to have one of the co-morbidities or have a bmi of 40. Yes its sucks but we have to play by there rules. Good luck.

My BMI is 38.8 with no co-morbidities. I have Aetna POS II. I'm currently doing 6 month diet with my PCP, but I feel as if I'm wasting my time. I have extremely high triglycerides/cholesterol, but that's about it other than BEING OBESE. Does anyone have any thoughts or positive stories to share? My hips/knees have been aching and I blame it on the weight. I exercise every other day at the YMCS (documented). I've been fat all my life. I'm praying for a miracle that Aetna will approve me in 5 months.

  3. I have just received my second denial in the mail yesterday. I was tring to find out if anybody could help me with my situation. Apparently I dont meet Aetna's criteria of bmi of 35 with one of the 4 ilnesses. I have copd, asthma, urinary stress incontinence, venous insufficiency and severe degenerative arthritis. I was hoping maybe you could let me know what to expect at the external review. :sad:ote=yayamama76;836848]It took my six months and 2 denials to get approved through Aetna. I finally ended up with a peer-to-peer arbitration between my surgeons office and Aetna. We won!

I was banded two weeks ago and I feel so fortunate! I'm on my way now.

Don't give up - if they tell you no, ask them what the next step is for you. If the procedure is DEFINITELY covered in your policy and you are sure the meet the quidelines = make them work.

    Good luck!:tt1:

  4. Ive been following your comments because I too have been denied. I see you finally got your band. I have been denied because in the 2 year period my bmi was under 35. I appealed there decision and was denied for a second time. I was a couple of pounds under the weght. (4lbs to be exact). Im out of 500.00 which I did not have and still no surgery. Did you go though an attorney to get your approval. I seen were you said that you would if you had to.

  5. I too was denied by Aetna. My problem was I fell below the bmi level within the two year period. My bmi was at 33.4 once within the 2 year period. Ive filed an appeal but I dont think it will do any good. Im getting no help from my surgeon. she doesnt do peer to peer. How did your peer to peer go did it help you. If so Im thinking of switching doctors.

Well, after going through all the hoops Aetna requires, I found out last week that I was denied. They say I don't have the co-morbidities. But, I have sleep-apnea and high cholesterol, so I just don't understand. My BMI is 39. But, my policy says that your BMI only needs to be 35 if you have at least one co-morbitity.

My counselor at Lapband Solutions scheduled a peer-to-peer consultation with Aetna, but they never called, so she is rescheduling it for next week. After all this effort, I am so depressed I don't even want to get out of bed.

Has anyone ever had any experience with these peer-to-peer reviews? I wonder if they ever change their minds once they've made a decision.
