The surgeons that I go to hand ALL the insurance mambo jumbo. They even file appeals for you and hire a lawyer for FREE! :biggrin:

I will tell my surgeon when I see him and ask their insurance person how BCBS works here in Jersey. Wish me luck!

No, I haven't been approved yet, but with Oxford if you have a BMI of 40+ no medical direction is required. So I have no doubt I will be approved. :biggrin: That would stink, though if BCBS didn't offer fills!

I'm a teacher, and we currently have Oxford. As of July 1st we will be going to BCBS. When I go see the surgeon next week I'll have to make sure that my surgery is in June. I hope that's doable. I don't know what plan we will get with BCBS and I don't want to have to wait 6 months doing preop God knows what b/c Oxford is easy!

Welcome! :thumbup: I'm not banded yet, but I'll tell you my reasons for wanting the band as opposed to RNY: 1. slower healing time 2. not cutting and rerouting my insides 3. restriction can be adjusted 4. IF there's a big problem, I can have it removed 5. you lose weight slower, so it's healthier

I'm sorry you are going through this. :frown: I'm actually surprised they banned you if they knew you were a heavy drinker.

Thanks everyone for the info on the MGB. I've seen this on YouTube also, and wondered why there was only one surgeon speaking about it. I was thinking should I be doing that instead of the band? Well, I just read the post "NO reputable surgeon will do the MGB." That really hit home! I'm always saying something similar regarding puppies, "NO reputable breeder will sell their puppies to a pet store." Thanks again. I'm not worried that my decision is wrong.

I'm not banded yet, but I have a comment. :ohmy: I've seen this Dr.'s videos on YouTube. It seems like he is the ONLY one who speaks about LapBand removal and mini bypass (on YouTube anyway). Now, I read in my book that not very many surgeons are doing the mini bypass b/c it's not "proven" yet.

I hear ya. :thumbup: My friend George was giving me a hard time and I said in a very polite tone of voice, "Hey, thanks a lot for being a good friend and supporting me in my decision." He kinda looked shocked I said that. He then said, "Well, then, if you think it's good for your body, then do it." He said it in a supportive way (not sarcastic)...so I guess he got the hint! :drool: My true feelings about surgery and...if people make you feel upset by what they say, you may be having second thoughts subconsciously and/or second guessing your choice. If you can "shut them up" (nicely or not) then you are strong in your AGB decision. :thumbup: But, that's MY opinion. :Dancing_wub:

Well, I'm not sure if my surgeon will require it; but when I go to my visit in a few weeks I will tell him about. I also want him to see that I am serious about the surgery and my body. :regular_smile:

I saw my gastroenterologist today. I told him about the AGB and asked him for a letter to back up my decision. He gave me one written on a piece of prescription paper. I also spoke to him about my GERD and the likelihood of a hiatal hernia (I don't have one that I know of). I don't have any abdominal pain, but I figured before I got the AGB I'd be proactive and make sure everything was okay in there first! :tongue: So it's scheduled for May 16th! I didn't want to get banded until June or July anyway, so May is perfect! Anyone get an endoscopy before getting banded?

Now I see what you mean. But I can tell you that I'm a teacher in middle school and it seems as though it's not the teachers who want to lower their standards. It comes from higher up. :thumbup: It's all about the policitics baby.

hehehe Well, not really. What I mean are those online medical sites that tell you syptoms and give you a possible "diagnosis." After reading about hiatal hernias I got nervous and went online to see the symptoms. Well, there aren't many, but I do have GERD and a chronic cough. Sometimes I get the lump sensation in my throat. (sigh) So now I'm freaking out that I have a hiatal hernia. Good thing I'm seeing the gasteroenterologist tomorrow b/c I'm going to mention this (plus tell him about me getting the AGB). So, have you ever looked up symptoms on the net to "diagnosis" your problems? :bolt: I swear I have almost everything on that site! :eek:

I don't see where teachers are to "blame" if a student cheats or how they find loopholes. :eek: Can you elaborate on this one? Thanks. :bolt:

If I see students cheating, they both get a zero. Easy as that!
