  1. If you're barely 2 months out, cut your calories to 600. I wasn't released to go to 800 until 6 months. You'll end up in a major stall because you'll be at maintenance calorie level.

Ideas on what to tell work

I didn't tell work either. I was in hospital 24 hours, took no pain meds. Went back to work day 6. I work from home so it was fine but I wish I had taken two weeks just because I was so tired. Sailed through after that. I told a couple of friends and I regret telling two of them. One tells everyone she sees and we know a lot of the same people. It's highly irritating.

    Gastric sleeve and gallbladder

In large practices approx 25% of people get gallbladder removed at the same time. Better to do it now than 3 months from now. Restrictions are not different now that it's all laparoscopic so you'll do fine.

    5 months out gas pains.

The Gasx isn't strong enough. Ask your doctor to prescribe a stronger PPI. Also remember to chew your food until it's really pulverized in your mouth. Even if eating soft foods. It can be annoying to chew 30 times but it helps more than we give credit.

    Calories In, Calories Out

Wow so much prejudice and hostility on this topic! In this case, size matters. Lot of folks, including myself, can gain weight eating 2000 calories/day. You can have your metabolic rate measured. When I was 65 lbs heavier my rate was 1900/day. So 2000 was a slow gain. Now my rate is 1350. So 1200 calories/ day is barely losing. If you're a super active, larger framed, man, you might be able to eat 2,300/day and maintain. It's just not accurate that everyone who is overweight has been downing cheeseburgers and fries uncontrollably.

    Annoyed....

Back to your original question on what to do. You may not want to hear this but you need to cut your calories. Now that you're smaller, your body needs less food and 1150 is what I'd be on maintenance. Go down to 800 and you'll start losing again.
  7. Liquids up to two weeks. Soft foods (yogurt, cream soup, cottage cheese, protein shakes) for another 4. Don't advance your diet any quicker than the guidelines.

    Can't get over dehydration

My surgeon recommended trying the Ph balanced waters for those who have trouble with water taste. Have you tried iced tea? Sugar free lemonade? Surely there's one thing that you can tolerate. If not force yourself to drink water like your life depends on it - because it does. It's not optional.

    Going crazy and need advice

I disagree with increasing your calories. You don't want to eat back what you're losing through exercise. Keep on plan and you'll start losing again.
  10. You need to not make it an issue and resolve to not let it bother you. I know it's hard. But you also know what you should eat. Expecting someone else to make huge changes to accommodate us isn't realistic. My 80 yr old mother lives with me. She says she's supportive and is - as long as it requires no change on her part. My freezer looks like a Baskin Robbins. She stocks up on candy every week. There's a stash of cookies in her room too. She's overweight and tells me how 'skinny' I'm getting. Ridiculous since I'm 5'4 and close to 200 lbs. I realized I can only change me and my attitude. Some days it's easier than others. Asking her to change and be supportive just led to disappointment. And yes, it's my house.
  11. I used to drink lots of Diet Coke. Lots. I tried one today for the first time since surgery. I'm 8 months post. It tasted great but I was sooo uncomfortable that I stopped after 3 sips.

    Alone After Surgery

I'm single and was at the hospital alone. I felt well enough that I would have driven home but the hospital wouldn't allow it. Once home I was fine. I had virtually no pain. I was tired the first couple of weeks. You should do fine.

    I'm new

Welcome and good luck. Being nervous is natural but you'll do great. I agree with the advice on caffeine and carbonation. I was drinking 3-4 20oz bottles of diet coke a day before surgery, plus coffee. I am very happy I gave it up pre-op. I can't imagine how miserable I would have been trying to do it with the surgery. I'm 8 months post op now and so happy I did this for myself.

    Surgery Update

It sucks at this point but it will get better. Are you on a PPI for gas? That could help the hunger feeling. Also just know you probably won't feel 'full' until you can eat solid protein. Liquids snd purées just slide down.

Why can't we keep it off naturally?

If you ever watch the 600 lb show, it always starts with the statistic that the patients have less than a 5% chance of success. It's the same with all of us. There is still a lot of misinformation around wls and most people don't understand it. Your family will be happy once you're losing and doing well.

    bad taste in my mouth

Some people get relief by drinking low ph water. You van buy it in bottled water section.
  17. Congratulations! Way to stick with it. You look great.
  18. I have BCBS. I did the pre op with my surgeons office. They would not accept a nutritionist. They would have taken my PCP but he doesn't do that part.

Lacking the motivation to even walk...

Sounds like you're on track. You had major surgery a couple of weeks ago so don't worry that you're not exercising yet. Focus on your protein and water intake.
  20. I go to a monthly support group. It's helpful to me because it keeps me focused and accountable. Also it's helpful to hear issues of those folks farther along. I'm 8 months post of.

    Fresh vegetables

Agree. You're too early for veggies. Wait another month or so. And when you try them again you need to chew them well even if they're soft to help get rid of the bloat feeling.
  22. I love the discussion here. I do think some of is is individual metabolism. For me, I'm a natural born slug and if I can keep losing while not having to kill myself exercising, then I'm all in with that plan.

    FRUSTRATED

Call a couple of the big hospitals in your area; whoever does the most bariatric procedures. I know at the hospital I was going to, some patients qualified to be part of their research or clinical trials. I had insurance so I didn't go that route but I would have considered it if I hadn't been covered. I know people in AZ who are on state sponsored insurance (for low incomes) get covered for WLS. It surprised me but I know 3 people now who've gone that route. If neither of those work out, the enrollment period for insurance is coming up again in the fall and you may be able to switch to another plan.

    Sushi after Surgery?

Sashimi after 2 months out should be ok if you don't overdo. Sushi with rice is probably off limits for me until I reach goal. Very high cal and carbs,

    Protein Requirements As We Loose

Be careful about getting advice from a wellness plan. Lots of badly trained nuts around. You need one trained in bariatrics or you could get really bad advice and quickly stop you loss.
