Remember, the calories are only one part of weight loss. Make sure your getting the right mix of nutrients (protein, healthy fats, carbs). You also should be active with exercise, walking, running, swimming, weights or power bands. This helps keep your body burning the fuel. I was in a 2 week stall and after checking my nutrients, found I wasn't getting enough calories. Was burning over 700 additional from excercize. After adjusting, the weight is falling again.

When does this get easier?
sleevinpops replied to SleevyNicks's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sleevey, it will get better soon, this is the worst part. Walking and water is the best. Before you know it the gas will pass and you'll be dropping! Hang in there, you got this! -
Congratulations! Fish like salmon, flounder, tilapia are all about 200 calories but 0carbs and 25-30 g of protein. Also add in vegetables like broccoli or cauliflower. For breakfast, can you keep down shakes? Isopure has 200 calories, low fat and high carbs. May be an option. Good luck!
-
Also, try c.worthy brand salmon (if you like fish) bake 10 minutes. Very soft and can be puréed. 0 carbs and about 29 G protein.

I found a low carb, sugar free bbq sauce (dg Hughes) and put it in a crockpot all day with chicken breast. By the end of the day it was soooo soft. Put in the processor to purée. Was delicious, high protein, low carb and filling.

3 weeks post op VSG, gaining weight
sleevinpops replied to j15big's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In addition to tracking your calories, you may want to also track your macro nutrients. Rather than focusing on a number, look at the %of protein, fats and carbs to the calories intake.. I am set to 60% protein, 30% fat, 10% carbs. You definitely need to be doing cardio too. Walk, treadmill...shoot for 5,000-10,000 steps per day. Burn more calories than consuming, but make sure to get your target calories in -
That's great to hear Jess! The pain lasts only a short time, but the positives will last and feel so much better! You got this! Keep on walking and it will help rid the gas, heal your body and drop the pounds! Good luck!

Pre op patient with a ? for post op patients
sleevinpops replied to Elizabethtash's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, you will not be hungry too often after surgery, although the rumbling still is there. Not due to hunger, but the intestines processing the food through. It goes away after a while I'm told. -
Need your help! Not your criticism :)
sleevinpops replied to guy17's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Guy, what is your diet like now? Are you tracking your food intake with an app like myfitnesspal? Curious to hear your nutrient macros. Also, are you walking, working out or performing exercise to keep you moving? -
Pulled bbq chicken (dj hughes has a sugar free, low carb bbq sauce that's amazing!), you can also use lean pork too.

What did you bring (or wish you had) to the hospital?
sleevinpops replied to Bodhi Tree's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I went to the hospital in sweatpants and t-shirt, brought my cellphone (didn't use it), Biotene, slippers bathrobe. They gave me everything else (toothbrush, toothpaste, footies, gasx, etc) spent the majority of my time after surgery either walking the halls (really helped to get the gas out and eliminate pain) or sleeping. Discharged the next day. -
Surgery was a success!

In need of a mentor -
sleevinpops replied to Tarno3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tarno, as long as your following your instructions (which sounds like you are) your fine. Keep in mind the liquids tend to pass right through so I'm not surprised with that. I actually had the same thing post surgery. Once you start getting in more solids, you will feel full after about 4 oz. Make sure to walk throughout the day, it will help heal, move the gas and keep things moving. Sounds like your doing great, keep it up! -
Did the doc know you were sleeved? I think if they did and wrote it, they would know. You can always ask your surgeon as well.

My pcp did not need to approve, however the surgeon, nutritionist & psych all needed to approve. Every insurance is different though, best to check with them.

I've been taking the centrum chewables. No issues

Can I swallow pills yet?
sleevinpops replied to EmmyJ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was allowed to swallow pills as long as they were the size of a small m&m, anything bigger I would split then take. You should be ok -
I just tried this for breakfast and it was delicious, cut one avocado in half, remove the pit and fill with one egg. Season, then bake until egg cooked 10 min usually depending on your oven.

12 Days Post Op and I Feel like the food I'm eating daily is wrong.. HELP ME!
sleevinpops replied to chrissyliezl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Chrissy, the soup you mentioned have carrots and potatoes, these root veggies are very starchy and carb laden, the evaporated mill may also be high in fat. You may want to check with your nutritionist to get your target nutrients then just be sure to be aware of these when buying your foods or preparing. I also recommend using an app like myfitnesspal to track all of your meals and nutrients. -
What is your daily menu/meal plan
sleevinpops replied to chrissyliezl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Chrissy, I am just over 6 weeks since surgery. Lunch 4 oz total: ~2 oz grilled chicken & no fat cottage cheese ~chicken or tuna salad w/ light mayo or low fat ranch ~1 cheesehead light mozzarella stick, split in two then rolled up in 2 lean Turkey deli meat w/ low fat cottage cheese or 3 Parmesan chips ~1 Butterball turkey burger ~ chicken crust pizza w/ low fat mozzarella cheese (I add a few crumbles of feta or blue for a little more flavor), low fat ranch dressing as the sauce. Dinner: ~c.worthy brand salmon filets ( these are delicious and already seasoned) ~grilled tuna ~baked halibut, tilapia or trout ~grilled shrimp I continue to look look for new healthy options, and would love to hear other ideas as well. This is a question you need to ask your primary care physician, they met change the amounts and times, but ask them directly. Mine were cut in half at first, now I am off them altogether

Donna, there will be those that can't understand what we go through, like we never thought of their brilliant insight. It's ok to let them think or say what they want...however, you are doing this for you and not them. Also, it is a tool for long term success and not an overnight miracle cure. We still need to excercize, we still need to make better food/nutritional choices, surgery just helps us eat less. I think as you move along in this journey, and they see the commitment you are putting forth in this lifestyle change, they will have a greater understanding. Keep strong, you've got this!
