I have my preop appointments on Tuesday... I don’t think much time goes between moments of thinking about the surgery... and thereafter... it’s so surreal. My first appointment with my primary was June 2016, but due to my husband’s health we put it off until January ... I called to schedule an appointment and we were at Mayo for my husband’s checkup and it was a snow day... it was pretty quiet and people probably canceled - well it worked in my favor. We left that day and I had met with the endocrinologist and set 3 appointments for the following week to meet with the nutritionist, psych eval and endo again ... then I started my 12 week emotional behavioral weight management sessions that Friday, she happened to have a cancelation and could fit me in... it’s all been rolling along. The longest time I’ve had without contact with Mayo was after I was approved.... until this Tuesday. I’ve been smoke-free since January 10th. My weight on the day I met with the endo Dr on the first visit was 291 lbs. my weight at my primary annual exam last week was 273 lbs. anyone else care to share their journey ?

I don't have any liquid diet before surgery. I triple checked because of so many people reporting that they have to... my surgeon said no changes to diet prior to surgery... just not to eat after midnight the night before surgery... crazy how different each surgeon is

Yes especially now that there's a date. I'm scared but excited. I'm trying not to think about it... but I can't help but think about it. I'm feeling kinda conflicted, but I worked hard to get to this point...

    BCBS Federal Employee Program Basic

I just found out I was approved, I'm still waiting for my surgeons office to call, but I had checked with BCBS and they said I've been approved. I have standard BCBS FEP plan.
  13. My program takes about a month to approve insurance and schedule a date. I was at my last weigh in on 7/18 and I called my insurance on 8/3 and I've been approved for surgery... still haven't heard from my program to schedule the surgery... so still waiting

    Just getting started

I'm going through Mayo's program... I have BCBS FEP and I had to do the 6 months with NUT but it was at Mayo and started the month I went in for my initial visit. I finished all of my requirements for insurance and for Mayo's program within 7 months
  18. Well my journey had a hiccup when back in April Mayo told me they were submitting my docs for approval. I thought that was soon. I got denied. I needed another 3 months of supervised dietitian appointments. That was kind of like an anticipated let down but I've now completed the additional 3 months of NUT appointments. I emailed the doc to let the team know I've now completed all of the requirements through BCBS FEP... I've lost a total of 14 lbs... I know it's not remarkable, but I'm glad the changes did impact my weight. I've pretty much "maintained a downward trend" that's okay... right? I'm hoping we can move forward with the process....

  21. Great post! I'm pre-op and this is a good question
  22. I just got an email from Mayo, they've resubmitted to my insurance this morning! That's exciting! According to my insurance they respond within 10 business days and on average 2-3 days. This feels more real this time!
