  1. I'm a little confused... are those your before pictures? Or pics from a time when you were not obese? You don't look overweight enough to have the sleeve surgery if these are current. What is your current weight/BMI?

The relative short time I've been on this forum, I've noticed there have been quite a few people posting just trying to start trouble. I apologize if you aren't one of them.

  2. I'm about 2 weeks post opp and I'm literally ready to eat. Like I can't take it anymore. Has anyone tried mashed potatoes or very soft mac & cheese in their early stages of being sleeved? I'm about to ask my surgeon what I can eat. Even if it's hummus I'll be pleased. I know it's mind over matter but I'm sick of chicken noodle Soup and applesauce. How did you guys cope with the cravings? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

The head hunger is horrible at that stage. Call your surgeon as soon as you know he will be in and ask if you can progress to soft food. I had a friend that did that and he allowed it. If so, stick with things high in Protein like refried Beans, Riccotta Bake, soft eggs etc. Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes are not ideal for a post bariatric diet. I did soft/pureed diet without mashed potato one. Once you start eating more 'real' food, the cravings and head hunger should go away.

On another note, a positive attitude is everything in order to be successful with these surgeries. I suggest you do an attitude adjustment or you will struggle. Start by losing that huge chip on your shoulder. That alone should be a few pounds.

  3. Lol, yes. A couple of sips isn't going to hurt you. The rule is technically more for bypass people, but it does also effect sleeve people. It's just preventing the food from washing through your stomach faster so you get the nutrients and stay satisfied longer. It won't physically hurt you or anything. I have heard some people will vomit if they drink too soon after though.

  4. That was never asked in my evaluation. I am so glad, I would have been angry and disturbed by that.

When I had mine I was asked if I was physically, emotionally or sexually abused, like all fat people are damaged...totally pissed me off. I hate how a doctor would assume that.

Why? I think that's kind of part of their job, to get to the bottom of why someone may be obese. Lack of self care is a symptom of lack of self esteem, and lack of self esteem can be caused by abuse. To me, it seems like a perfectly logical question.

  5. @@mrsNilla my starting weight was 200. I did not have much to lose. I do not wish to do damage to people that are following the plan, that's great. But some are discouraged from wls because they do not want to change their eating. I do think one can achieve good results with or without surgery if they focus on portion seizes. Post op, I am still surprised with how much food people are served in restaurants, even kids meals are shocking. The French don't get fat, and they eat bread, cheese, and pastries. The secret? Portion size. I guess you could say I am living the French way of life in a very fat America.

As someone who is almost a year further out than you and about 25 pounds over my goal weight right now, I can honestly say the moderation thing you are talking about has stopped working for me. I found this forum to see if i can get support to get back on track. I am able to eat more than before, and have found myself eating too much of the sweets and carbs like Cookies and crackers. I was really good about staying away from that stuff the first couple of years but started the moderation thing and it kind of spiraled out of control. Because I wouldn't gain for so long when I would eat sweets and carbs, I found myself constantly pushing the limits and now am facing a 25 pound gain. I honestly think if I would have tried to stay on the straight and narrow a bit better and not given into the moderation lie people use so much regarding surgery, I would still be where I need to be weight wise. I think it catches up to us eventually and we really need to watch what we eat a large majority of the time. It almost seems there were metabolism changes that happened with me, where stuff I could get away with before, I no longer could and would see the scale climb instead.

If we couldn't moderate food before, then what makes us think we could after surgery? Portion Control just isn't enough after a certain amount of time in my opinion.
