  1. Hello all,

It seems that I have come to a plateau and would like some advice and or words of encouragement so that I can get back on track. I had lower limb surgery in December which has caused me to be less active in my daily life activity. I know this is what has caused my weight loss to stop and I’m confident I’ve gained ~3 to 5lbs. I don’t want to lose hope and I want to continue my weight loss progress successfully. If anyone has any advice on how to get back on track it would truly be appreciated.

    Thank you.

  2. Are you getting in your fluids and Protein? If you aren't making the suggested amounts for either your body won't give up the weight. Are you exercising? You could also not be eating enough. At 3 months post-op I was eating between 750-900 calories a day per my Nutritionists guidelines. Now at 5 months post-op I get all my protein from real food (3oz chicken, shrimp, etc per mini-meal, 4x a day) and eat between 1000-1200 calories depending on whether its a workout day or not.

As I mentioned above- I am getting more than enough Fluid in, but not protein. Also, i exercise regularly since given the green light to do so after surgery..

  3. One thing to do now at this stage is to assess your Protein intake. Your daily protein requirement is met by a combination of the amount of protein you obtain from food combined with the amount of protein from protein supplements (protein shakes, protein bars). Right after gastric bypass surgery, the volume of food you consume is minuscule (2 ounces) per meal. But as you get further along, the meal volume increases. Therefore you have a very important option available to you. As a result, you can begin to reduce your reliance on Protein Shakes. I went from 3 a day, down to 2, down to 1 and eventually none when I reached 1 cup per meal at a year and a half post-op.
This is important because protein shakes contain calories. If you can reduce your caloric intake, then you can end a stall. At least that was the approach that I used and it worked for me.

I am getting enough fluids, but lacking on the protein. I have to work on that, it's been hard to keep much down.

  4. Did you take pictures? I do pictures once a month. I didn't notice until I put my before picture next to my more recent ones. Also take your measurements. I do arm, chest, waist hips, thigh.

No, I have not. I wanted to wait until my 3 month post op to do so. However, it may help to start doing so now I guess since I'm not seeing much of the difference...

  5. At week 9 post-op RNY gastric bypass surgery, I transitioned to solid foods (such as chicken and steak). But this transition was difficult so I relied primarily on softer foods such as home made high Protein chili and Soups. As my meal volume increased, the protein that I derived from my meals increased and as a result I was able to begin to offload my Protein Shakes and the calories these protein shakes contained. I put some of the recipes at the end of a short article about my experience. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery.pdf

I've been relying on softer foods and soups as well. It's been hard trying to keep any solids down thus far. How is your progress?

  6. Hello everyone,

I'm about 6 weeks almost 7 weeks post op this upcoming Monday. I've lost 30lbs overall since the last time I weighed myself which was on my one month post op on 1/12/17. However, I'm not seeing a difference or feeling much different and am beginning to feel discouraged. Does anyone have any advice? I don't want to feel like this anymore.

Also, what is or was everyone eating at this point in their journey?

  7. I hope this helps. Notice the first bullet point. Maybe you're trying to eat too much, not eating too fast and your tummy may accept a certain food or get used to it in smaller portions.

Thank you very much for that!! I can barely get in three bites without having the feeling of it coming back up. I am convinced my new pouch is not ready for all solids yet. However, as I mentioned previously, I will continue to take it day by day and try again slowly :)

  8. I still ate a lot of soft/moist foods at that point. I cooked (read over-cooked) a lot of veggies at that point, ate Soups, made baked ricotta, tuna salad. I struggled with things that others had no problems like refried Beans and scrambled eggs. Personally I think that a lot of people rush the stages and/or portions when they have years of regular food ahead. Go at your body's pace and keep in communication with your surgeon as you have.

I couldn't agree more! I will continue with my soft foods until I feel my body is ready to handle other foods. There is no need to rush and as long as I'm keeping in contact with my surgeon and meeting my Protein requirements, all is well!

  9. I hope your whatever it is gets with the program soon and you are able to enjoy life more. Like I said it's not supposed to be like this for you! Be patient and try to follow the instructions off my sheet up there. I don't know what else to tell you other than you'll be in my thoughts and consider yourself hugged!

  10. Gosh, that's no fun I'm sure! I would ask your doc then as I don't know why your body is throwing up so much!! That is not the way it's supposed to be so get it addressed by your doc asap!

It isn't whatsoever. I spoke to him regarding this he just told me to introduce new foods little by little and to go with whatever I'm able to tolerate. If this persists he will schedule some testing, but I'm hoping it doesn't need to get that far!!

  11. My Stage 3 what to expect sheet says that "vomiting is almost always related to eating. Slow down! All of the following could cause vomiting: eating too fast, not chewing well, eating too much, eating foods not soft enough too soon, drinking liquids with food, drinking with a straw, lying down after a meal, or eating foods you do not tolerate." I hope that helps you!

My stomach is not tolerating any solids aside from my Protein Snacks and cheese. Everything else tends to come back up unfortunately.

  12. I think everyone just heals and adapts at a different pace according to their body, and not their mind! So just give yourself more time and keep experimenting, but maybe with tiny amounts at first and if all is well a little more later. I hope you can eat more solids soon

  13. I am having some left side tenderness about three fingers left of one of my incisions. This has been my painful spot since surgery but it hasn't gone away. Has anyone had this before?

I had this after my revision on 12/12/16. This lasted about 6-8 days. It will get better just stay hydrated and try to move around as much as you can.
